Just a random observation, but has anyone else noticed that this is at least the 4th year in a row where the Northeast is expected to get slammed by a snowstorm or some other strange weather phenomena the night before/day of kick off?

I don't think we'll see the artic freeze that delayed the kickoff in 2004 when the NASA tv truck froze, but were looking at another snowstorm like last year when cars were just shooting off the highway on the way back from Manchester.

What northeast exactly? Recognizing that Laurel, MD is not really northeast, I searched Manchester, NH and found no chance of precipitation for the next week. Maybe farther north?

Connecticut/Mass is what I was talking about. We had snow in the forecast at 7am today for Sat. I thought it extended into NH as well.

I pretty much meant New England though as to effect those going to the primary kick-off.

Manchester weather for Friday is:
Considerable cloudiness. Highs in the mid 30s and lows in the low 20s.

Saturday:
Snow showers at times. Highs in the low 30s and lows in the low teens.

Looks like much better weather than the last few years.

I pretty much meant New England though as to effect those going to the primary kick-off. I have been watching the local forecast for our CT kickoff event also, and it seems to be changing every hour... I've got my fingers crossed that we don't have ice for Saturday like we did last year.

My favorite weather site (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=manchester%2C+NH) (you can change the city/zip in the upper LH corner) is calling for a reasonable chance of snow tomorrow and Friday in Manchester (with little accumulation) and a near perfect day on Saturday ...

Now here in Indy we can't count on the forecast any more than about 1/2 day out   ... hoping they do better in the Northeast.

For your sake Stu, I hope the weather at kickoff is no worse than IRI's weather this year (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pictures.php?s=&action=single&picid=11652&direction=DESC&sort=date&perrow=4&trows=5&quiet=Verbose). I would hate for you to get the impression that the Northeast is one big unending snowglobe during the winter months.

(It's really not, we have no snowglobe-esque shaking effect usually.. )

I am going to freeze! I only own a couple sweatshirts, no winter coat. Oh well, I didn't get to see snow for Christmas... If anyone wants to meet me in NH, I'll be the one shivering in a ball in the corner wearing the umbrella hat.

http://www.thewmurchannel.com/weather/index.html the weather page for the NH news station weather. The other local forecasts are lumped in with Boston channels, so there's not as much focus on NH.

Even if the forecast said Sunny with a high of 80 degrees, I would still expect blizzard conditions at Kickoff. The weather's been rather iffy lately, I would definitely suggest at least bringing a jacket. ;)

You know, the best way for the out-of-towners to realize that NH is not one perpetual snowglobe would be to come visit RiverRage 10 next September! I've already heard about some pretty crazy stuff planned...

You mean you haven't heard about Dean's latest invention? It's supposed to give all of New Hapmshire a white Christmas, but he said there's still a bug in the software, so it doesnt kick in until the day before kickoff.

Kinda works though, with Lavery Claus and all.

Why not just go to the National Weather Service (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/forecasts/NHZ012.php?warncounty=NHC011&city=Manchester) ? Isn't this where all the news stations get their info., anyway? For added fun, you can click on the Forecast Discussion link on the right side and read the forecasters' official attempts to decipher the weather data.

For those flying in on Thursday, the weather doesn't sound all that nice to me. I call mixed rain and snow a mess. I sure thought it would be too cold for rain in New Hampshire at this time of year.

Wait, River Rage is in September next year? I liked it two days before halloween.

Looks like snow flurries Friday night here. Anything is probably better than the 4-6 inches of snow we got last year. GLR was also a snowy weekend. Snowed the morning of practices, and I think it was the 2nd night that it snowed really bad on the way home. It also snowed 4 inches the day I came home from Atlanta. Something about robotics correlates to snowfall in Michigan.

I sure thought it would be too cold for rain in New Hampshire at this time of year.I suppose most of them start there, but our major network affiliates each have their own fancy-schmancy radars and they enhance and extrapolate and put their own spin on what they get from the NWS.

Coming in from Indianapolis, AND remembering the 8-12 inches on the ground the previous two times I was able to attend the Manchester festivities, I don't think a little snow and rain mix (less than 1" accum.) will be too bad - especially for January in NH.

It's AMAZING how many suggestions the spell checker came up with for "schmancy" ... but I still like mine better ...

The weather for the NOVI KICKOFF was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

Of the 30 people on our team that were going to go there only me, my friend, and our Lead Mentor (Paul J. Hudy) made it to see the kickoff. 5 more people from our team came in 3 hours late because they closed all the highways.

Now to actually talk about the weather...

It was drizzleing all night and all day. You don't think thats bad, but the roads tell a different story...

We left our house at 7:00 A.M. for what should be a 35 minute drive. I forgot something at home, I ran back, got the item, ran back, and slipped all the way down our road (it's sort of on a hill). When I finally got in the car we realized their was something really wrong! we drove down the street, tryed to make a turn, and we almost ended up on the curb :ahh: . Than we drove down one more street and then we got onto a sort-of-main road. That road wasn't that bad. We got onto I-696 and we were going 45 as it was semi-icey.

Than, about half way in, all hell (and if that word is offending or against any of the Chief Delphi rules, i won't mind if the word changed) broke loose! The highway was no longer a highway, it was an ice arena. We skided about 500 ft luckily just missing the car in front of us. Everyone formed a 2 mile parking lot. Some of us got out of our cars. As a group in the front of the line,we decided to move at about 5 mph. so we all started moving again. as we were moving, we averaged counting 4 accidents per mile. As we were driving, one car that flipped over caught on fire. Later, we merged onto I-96.

Their was a 10 (degree) slope to the right on the road. It merged to 2 lanes.

We were on the Right lane. A truck was on the left lane. We let the truck get farther down the road. About 10 feet after it passed us, it just slipped all the way down to the safety lane. We were lucky because if we did just go even with the truck, we would have gotten smashed. Luckily, the next exit was ours. We went onto the onramp. People were slipping right over the sides of the ramp. Luckily, for the last mile and a half we followed a salt truck to the school. Half way between the ramp an the school, we were stopped at a railroad crossing for about 15 minutes as the conductor of the train made a good call and slowed down. Finally, we made it to Novi High School for the kickoff!

It was HORRIBLE. I went to go warm up my Jeep around 7am and felt a few drops and though nothing of it. Meet up with the team at school, and left at 7:30. We were gonna take 23, but the radio said there was a bad accident, so we took 75. Go past Monroe on 75 and it started to get worse...so everyone slowed down. Once we got on 275, we saw accidents every half mile. Traffic was between 5 mph and a stand still. I saw 2 semis go from the on ramp, and cross 3 lanes of traffic into the ditch. I exited at one exit to take Haggerty to miss some of the accidents and got back on...but it was till horrible. On Haggerty, people were getting stuck in intersections becuase it was so icey. One of my team members did a 720 across 3 lanes to the shoulder...luckily it was like 8am and she didnt hit anyone, but she was so starttled she drove home and didnt even go to kick-off. I slid a bit, at one point, I went off the highway to drive in the rumble strip/gravel to keep traction. I slid sideways a bit and forward about 20ft one time, but nothing major. Half the people on the road, including myself, had their 4-ways on so the morons still doing 45mph would see them slowing down/stopping and not run into the back off them. Some guy was actually tailgating me in this weather.

This weather turned a 1 hour trip into an over 3 hour ordeal. All in all, everyone who went, made it there and back safely.

I think michigan was hit the hardest this year for kickoff. At about 10:00 am they shut down all the highways.

And I thought it was horrible and annoying for me to have to go 15 mph the whole way there...
