View Full Version : So close to Kickoff - what do you still have to do?

In these days before Kickoff, I am reminded of the flurry before the Holidays - not only on the eve of the holiday, but in the days leading up to it.
So...what do you have to do before you can kick back and watch the reveal? Did you put it all off until the last minute?
That's really funny, Jess... shall we compare lists?

Or..."Which list was worse, the list before Kickoff or the list before the Holidays?"
Or..."Which list was worse, the list before Kickoff or the list before the Holidays?"The list before/after kickoff is MUCH longer than the list before the Holidays!

Let's see...
-Get my teeth cleaned (yay dentists)
-Welcome a few more last-minute joiners to the team
-Hope that some parts I ordered get here in time
-Buy the last of my textbooks
-Write up some things for Preston
-Finish unpacking my stuff from moving back into Preston
-Re-set my alarm clock
-Hunt down a couple new pairs of jeans. (I wonder if Dean knows any good companies.)

I would tend to agree. I not only have to get ready for kickoff, and our Team's kickoff party as well on Sunday, but I also am getting ready to go back to work.
Yes, that's right I officially start work this coming Monday to coincide with our first day of build.

Hey! I resent that! Freshman pride!
My main task to complete before the kickoff is to get together a prototyping kit for our team. Stuff like foamboard, straws, hot glue, tape, etc. And also brainstorming materials like paper and pencils, calculators and graph paper. This way, we will be able to make little models of the game elements and possible robot designs, and sketch out different concepts (and of course, one of our mentors always brings legos, so those help too. :))
I'm pulling my hair out trying not to forget anything. Last year we all forgot calculators. One of our mentors had a calculator on his watch, so I spent the whole ride from our remote kickoff to our school (for the brainstorming session) with an itsy-bitsy calculator and some scrap paper trying to to calculate the height of a tetra in a moving vehicle. Never again.

Well, I picked up my new printer today, and I think this weekend it will be broken in very nicely printing the manual.
If not, I saved the receipt. :)
Now, all I have to do is:
*Get Oil Changed on Car (Many commuting miles to be put on soon due to work/FIRST
*Pick up soda for our Kickoff on Sunday
*Test taping things on Dad's DishTV for pre-kickoff preparedness.
*Let my Dad know I"m stealing his tv for a couple hours.
*Pre-Kickoff DDR Tourny on Friday night to chill out before build.
There is probably more, but I forget. All in due time.

Getting trans leak in my truck fixed tomorrow. Getting tires rotated next week I guess. Still have to buff out some scratches and give it a good wash and waxing. Still have to put a new battery in the 65 VW bug. And sometime over the course of this year I need to build my custom 1/6th scale RC Ford Ranger, and get back into flying my RC helicopter.

* Find a (definite) place to build our robot ...
* Figure out a place to meet during week 1 of the build ...
* Confirm that our second regional has been paid for ...
* De-stress, de-stress, de-stress!!
sleep? lol :D
That's on my immediate to do list.
