I have Inventor 8. So i go to the Autodesk Streamline 6, log in etc. i download the Virtual Kit of Parts 2006.zip. I unzip it then try to open any particular file with Inventor.
then i get this error:
"! Database schema is newer than this version of the software"

that happens with any file from the Virtual KOP. the inventor parts from IFI open up fine, with no problems.

is there somewhere i can get a patch or fix for it? also the soft is updated according to the "Communication Center"

does this mean that the ONLY way i can use the Virtual KOP is to use the new inventor 10? i rather not do this.

BTW: i haven't had any problems with inventor 8.

thanks guys

As far as i know you can't. Basically all it says is you need a new version of Inventor. I ran into this problem at my old high school because i would do drawings in invent 8 and the school only had inventor 5, so i could never work on stuff i had started at home in school. But sry I'm pretty sure you can't change it.

You are correct. The only way you can view the VKOP is with Inventor 10.

That is like it was last year, you have to use the new version of Inventor to use the VKoP. You might be able to have someone with Inventor 10 save them as STEP files that you could open, then resave as Inventor files. But this does loose some things like constraints, and I think material properties. But if you can't use version 10, then redoing some parts of a file is better than doing them from scratch.

There are also a lot of parts that might help you in the FIRST CAD Library (http://www.firstcadlibrary.com).

The parts posted in the FirstCadLibrary (http://www.firstcadlibrary.com) were created with Inventor 5 & 6. You should be able to open these just fine. I'm working on adding many of the new parts (as fast as I can).

Thanks to the First CAD Library :) It's unfotunate that those of with older versions on Inventor (7 for me) can't use the FIRST VKoP.

The FIRST Cad Library has almost all the models that the VKOP includes, and usually more detailed versions. You really aren't missing much.

Did you try using the 2005 VKOP? This year's is pretty similar to last year's, so if the 2005 version works for you then you should be pretty well off.

I just opened up the virtual KOP and did not see the new CIM motor. I'm not that experienced with Inventor yet - is it in there with the visibility turned off??

It's not in the 2006 VKOP.

actually i am having this same problem. i have inventor 5 and 5.3 at home, inventor 8 parts, and inventor 10 on a tiny laptop that doesn't even meet minimum system requirements. unfortunately all of the official parts are in inventor 10 so i can only use the parts on the laptop

i have been trying to rebuild the parts in inventor 5 and solid works but the parts on the innovation site does not have dimensions. apparently they imported or something because it is only a base in inventor 10.

does anyone know where i can get parts that are editable so that i can change them to the older versions? i would appreciate it if anyone could give some info.
