NE1 else like this rule?
R20> During the “FIX-IT WINDOW” following each Regional Competition weekend: During this period, all teams (not just those teams attending a Regional Competition) may utilize one or two 5-hour FIX-IT-WINDOWS
to manufacture SPARE, REPLACEMENT and UPGRADE PARTS and develop software for their robot at their home facility (not at the competition site).
Does this mean that a team can work on parts and programming five additional times after the shipping of said robot?
How cool is that :)

you can only bring parts of your robot home and for only 5 hours. and it's only 1 or 2 times that you can do this. that's what I got from it.

I'm trying to find it right now, but I'm almost 100% certain that while reading the rules yesterday I saw a clause about these fix it windows not exceeding a total of more than 50 hours (2*5 hours per week*5 weeks)

Please reread. It mentions not just teams attending a regional. How can I take home parts of my robot from a regional I'm not at?
It also mentions each regional competition weekend.

i think it means that you have five hours to do what ever you want to your robot ie:create new parts, redisigned manipulator, etc.
you only have 5 hours a maximum of twice

what i see from that is each team gets one or two fixit windows per competition whether or not they attend the competition. therefore, each team gets 50 hours of fix-it window time.
just my $0.02

I think it is actually 60 hours of potential fix it time. It is after each ship date, including the initial one. The ones after the first ship date are special in that no up graded parts can be made, only repairs and spares.
I think this rule is a pretty good way to split the baby.
Nice job rules committee.

I agree with Joe about 60 hours. There is no mention though about taking parts home to fix. It does say to " manufacture SPARE, REPLACEMENT and UPGRADE PARTS ".
There is one part of the rules that says you cannot use the Fix-It window to produce upgrade parts and another that says you can

I think the first fix-it window is different than the rest. The first you can only make replacement parts only, the rest allow upgrades.
As to taking parts home, I think it is allowed BUT you can only bring 25 lbs of non-COTs stuff back into the next competition.
I may have it wrong, but that is my understanding/interpretation as of now.

On my first reading of the rules, I came away with the sense that a team had a total of 2 fixit windows to use throughout the competition season. Thus the constantly mentioning that you can use one OR two windows after a competition. I think the 12 possible windows reading could be right as well, though. And obviously more sane. Is someone asking this question when the Q&A gets working?
