We wrote an excellent letter making a request for letters, and were turned down. Our district has, numerous times, recognized our presence and hard work. The letter defined athlete and showed how our team met the specifications exactly. Our principal said that even though we made a strong arguement she agreed, she simply felt that a robotics team was not an athletic team and we were therefore turned down.

Our principal also informed that Varsity is controlled by the state. Are there any NJ teams who currently give real varsity letters?

I understand it wouldnt hold the same weight as an official letter but as a nice gift for seniours you could have your own letters made, either the school letter or pi to represent your team. THis would make a nice( cheap ) gift for outgoing seniors, if you have an abnormally large budget you could also give them letterman jackets.

I'm not aware of ANY New Jersey teams with Varsity letters. Maybe a group effort by a couple of teams that have tried already to get Varsity letters (1403 is yet to attempt), and approach the state. The next step is to find some support maybe from an Assemblymen, or even a State Representative-Rush Holt happens to be the only scientist in the US congress, guess what his district is? New Jersey 12th.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 1626's slogan actually "The Intellectual Varsity Sport" or something alone those lines? That may not be the exact tag for the exact team, but I'm almost certain I saw that on a poster at the NJ regional last year.

Even though I'm in the South, my high school does not give varisity letters. Instead we get class credit. :yikes:

You are almost right, it's "The Academic Varsity Team". Our school has expressed interest in giving out varsity letters this year. Not sure how that is going to turn out, but I know that it is a very possible idea for this year.

I know some of our students are intrested. The Band at montville High School recently concluded a fight to get there own letters which they one. I have a feeling that our district is not comfortable with the idea.
