Sorry if this has been answered before or if the answer is buried in the rules.
Can you use something besides 3ds max to edit video from 3ds? If so, can you use the editing software to add in video effects or cool transitions?
Can you use 3d models that your team did not create (such as field models provided by other teams and/or free models from websites)?
How do you go about getting permission from song rights owners to use their songs?
Can you use non-copyrighted songs or sound clips?
Thanks,

1. yes, as far as i know. and yes, you can add transitions.
2.that gets a little sketchy. If the other team said you can, then i guess so, but i wouldn't, just to be safe.
3. i can't help, we make our own music.
4. yes. acid or fruityloops and other programs for music that come with soundclips are okay to use. if you get it off a website, be careful, some may be free, but you still have to get permission to use it.

Hey! Our team is new to animating and started a bit late due to the need to learn the program. We were wondering if we're allowed to use people found in the 3ds Max Tutorials. Is that against the rules or not?

It Shouldn't be against the rules. 3ds max Takes forevor to learn :p I did it over the summer. I would reccomend using your own models, just for the sake of originality. But its up to you.

Thanks a bunch! I guess we'll just stick with this for now and get better for next year.

Nothing says that you can't use the tutorial models, but when its being judged, pretty much everyone judging has done the tutorials so they will realize that it isn't your original work. Keep that in mind, but if you can find an original way to integrate it with your original work, you should be fine.
