Hey mates,

I tried to upload Kevin's code for the CMUCam2 on my RC, so I compiled it with the MPLab C18 Compiler, and dumped the .hex file into the RC using IFI_Loader v1.0.12 but it didnt work, I open the terminal, type t in the "To Port ->" tab then <RETURN> and nothing happens.
Then I noticed that when I upload another code to the RC, the IFI_Loader doesnt remove the older one, it just connects to the RC, tries to ERASE but doesnt, then it starts a fresh DOWNLOAD.

and if you're wondering if the Programming Led is turned to orange, yes I clicked the programming button until that led turned into orange!

I'll appreciate any help :]

Thanks in advance.

I have had similar problems with IFI Loader. I can not get programs to download to the RC unless I press download wait a few seconds then put the RC into program mode. If I try putting the RC into program mode first the download will fail with a message about not being able to connect to the RC. Maybe this procedure will work for you also though our issues seem a little unrelated.

also, what is the best version that is to be used with the FRC PIC18F8522 RC?

is it v1.0.12?

IFI_Loader v1.0.12 (zip, 1-3-2006) Must be used with the 2006 Robot Controller.

or is it just old, because on the same page just up a little bit, they wrote:-

The micro-controller inside the FRC Robot Controller is the Microchip PIC18F8520 from the PICmicroŽ microcontroller family. While this chip can be programmed in Assembly or C, the default code supplied for the user has been written in C. The user will be writing code directly at the hardware layer, but all the necessary code for integrating the micro-controller into the system has already been written by IFI and will be mostly hidden from the user.

so? :ahh:

Thanks in advance.

I contacted IFI with this exact question. The answer is quite simple. 1.0.12 is compatible with the 2006 RC, backward compatible with the 2005/2004 RC and VEX as well. Bottom line, use 1.0.12 for all RC 2004 and newer. (Sorry, I can't answer this for the Edu RC)

The RC only executes the CMUcam2 code and the terminal display code when it is linked (by radio or tether) to the OI. Did you have the RC connected to the OI when you were doing this?

ahhhh, this is it then, thanks mate for the help, I'll connect the RC to the OI and then try again:)

thanks again!

Quote from http://www2.usfirst.org/2006comp/other/CMUCam2_-_Configuring_for_MPLAB.pdf
The Innovation First IFI_Loader v1.0.20 (Available at
http://www.innovationfirst.com/).

is that version not yet released or that I simply cant find it!?

No, 0.20 is wrong in that manual. .12 is the correct one.

Also, it doesn't take long for the loader to erase the existing code, so it might look like its not.
