View Full Version : Programing Help
Hi everyone,
This is my schools first year in FIRST and I was looking through the software that FIRST gave us and i couldn't figure the stuff out since I am a don't know the software or what it is for. I was looking in Easy C but it looks like it is for the vex competition. So any help would really help. But anyway I know JAVA and I heard that it is very similar to C so I don't think that it will be that much of a problem. I also saw a link to download basic driving instructions so we could get it rolling but the link didn't work. That is all I wanted to do, just the basic so I can have it driving. Thanks in advance.
First, try the Programming forum. Second, while EasyC is used for VEX, this year FIRST teams have gotten a slightly different version engineered for an FRC controller. Third, don't try to use all of the tools you have: according to Dave Lavery, your controller can't handle all of it without a meltdown or something similar. Use what you know how to use.

doesnt the robot controller come with the default code already loaded?
I think thats how they test it at the factory.
you can use it that way right out of the box, unless you need to make changes.

The tutorials of EasyC are actually really handy, and once you get the hang of it, it's actually a breeze. Just press F1 and they have step by step instructions on how to program your firt code. and just a bit of advice... save multiple copies of your code jut in case.
Easy C will step through things nicely and allow you to make code that will simply drive a robot much quicker than you could if you did it with the MPLab environment. It might be more difficult to run certain sensors and use parts not included with the kit using Easy C, but it is great for driving and testing things.
Be sure to check the programming forum, and to check the example code Kevin Watson gives out to help teams use sensors and whatnot.
