What do ya'll think about the rules?
Do any of them compromize the build of your robot?

I think they havent all that much.

Hey,

I think that the rules are purposely restrictive so that we get a) really cool designs that nobody would think of and b) strategy is much more important than last year.

There are other threads discussing this:

I think that this game is going to be more fun than last year's because of the strategy element. There will be a lot more planning going on. Yes, it will make it hard to design the 'bot, but I have a suspicion that FIRST wants it that way.

Just my 2 cents

At first blush the rules seemed altogether more restrictive than they have in any past year. No ability to extend above 60". Maximum robot size AFTER the match starts. Autonomous period determines the sequence of play for the remainder of the match. After thinking about them for a couple weeks now it is easy to see that this year's rules will require teams to be able to modify their strategy and game play not only on a match-by-match basis but also DURING the match. If you think about the whole autonomous-offense-defense-free-for-all layout of the matches, effective and efficient communication among alliance partners during the match will play a pivotal role in this years game. While alliance communication has been important in the past, I think it is much more so this year.

I like how they've taken the game in a new direction.

Let the games begin!
