Just wondering what teams are doing what. Seems like most teams are going offensive. Haven't seen any defensive teams out there. Our team is trying both. Thanks for the help! :D

Our team is going offensive, as much as DEFENSE sounds nice in the NBA games, I prefer to think attack is the best for of defense, not that it matters
since we HAVE to defend atleast 40 seconds of each game (or 50, if you defend autonomesly)

Normally the good teams use the best defense: a good offense. The better the offense, the harder it is to stop.

We talked about it and decided to forgo strategy this year. We are just going to shoot balls into goals and bash into things. :D

It all depends on how you interpret the words. Alot of functions can fill both "offensive" and "defensive" roles (herding balls, climbing the ramp, etc).

Our robot will do both..It will be able to shoot balls into the goal and also keep 99% of robots we go up against in chack... ;)

I thought it was Mel, the cook on Alice that said that.

I think he said that the best defense was his cooking?

We're offensively oriented, shoot all the balls we can... but the defense always shows itself once we start thinking of alliance strategies.

What are the rules for camping in front of goals? I never saw anything in the literature about that?

Also, what about shooting other balls out of the air? (not likely, just an idea)

this thread. (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=42740)

Use the nearly two feet of extra room (in the front/back, or even more if you want to use the sides) to lean out over the other bot and block their shots ;)

I'm waiting to see teams learning standard plays that they can use with their alliance partners. That would actually be pretty useful.

Assuming the other bot is at 5 feet already, and they have a shooter that comes out the top, you can't block them. Period. Not with a wall. If they are less than that, make sure you follow all other rules (entanglement, etc.)
