Looks like Omni's plus3 DeWalt motor cases.

Omni + DeWalt Gearboxes?

Do I smell...holonomic drive?

And the shells to the dewalts are laid out in a triangle...holonomic drive maybe?? Just a guess on my part.

Yes. I think the 3-wheel variant is more specifically called "kiwi drive", though I may be mistaken. :D

Or perhaps the aim is to screw all of us up, and the omniwheel is for some sort of 4WD application.

Is it just me, or are those nothing more than three joystick housings? This is 228 we are talking about... (228's 2005 OI (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35971))

No, those are definitely DeWalt drill housings. You can see the "bottom" where the battery is supposed to go facing the omniwheel.

Ut oh... they are getting ready to drill holes in those brand new omni-wheels. Sigh... we have more.

I doubt you will be successful climbing the ramp with those wheels.
That's a lot of Delrin (wheel) on Aluminum (Ramp) slipping that I can foresee.

actually those AM Wheels have incredible traction! we have a set of them ourselves........you'd be surprised.

but who needs to climb the ramp anyway!

if it is a Kiwi Drive....please keep me posted as to how it's going! i love to see the other designs people use to implement this technology.

who knows....i may be reviving the technology myself!!!!!

Seems as if original suspicions may be incorrect. If you look at the results to this poll (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=1318) you can see that they are using 4WD...

Unless he was lying...

No. They're using a three motor omni wheel thrower that can throw balls in every direction at once. Kinda like a confetti machine, only foamier!

My moneys on a kiwi.

My guess is that they arent unsing Kiwi drive. In my opinion that isnt a good idea for this years game, you dont get as much push for your money. But I think that the three dewalts are just telling us that they will be using 3 motors per wheel on there robot. The onmi wheel im not so sure about but my bet is that they will be having a super powerfull tri-motored robot that will out tank just about anything. Which is you think about it is a good idea, beacuse durring defense you just have you most powerfull robot push a robot behind the backbot line and then the backbot can do what it wants with the robot. But I digress, the omni probubly represents that it will have high manuverability. Or maybee im just thinking to figuratively. Hmm..........

OK, I'll bite. 228 is doing a 4 wheel drive. I think the omnis will be in front (or back) for better maneuvering. The drill handles indicate NBD trannies, possibly 2 on the drive and one elsewhere.
