I would like one change for the 2007:

Submerse the field in liquid helium so I wont have to run so much heavy gauge wire.

If anyone from the electrical community agrees with my opinion, please reply to this thread so we can make this competition easier for us electricians.

Won't the water displace it?

Unfortunately, the contraction of the motor parts will cause the current to skyrocket due to the increased friction. Add to that problem, the battery will cease to function at the low temperatures when the elctrochemical reactions cease. Besides, you know hard it is to solder with gloves on?

OR, just goto the Toronto Regional. Their arena is a hockey rink, and the ice is still there under the floor! :^)

Same with the New Jersey and BAE regionals, as well as a few others.

mk when i said heavy, it had nothing to due with the gravitation force exerted on the earth by our robot. I meant heavy as in large and more difficult to work with. Dont worry about increased current, that is the whole point of the helium. As you approach absolute zero, the current increases to infinite while the voltage decreases to 0. Therefore, at absolute zero, you wont need the battery. And someone said that water will displace it? Mk, if its at absolute zero, then the water will be a frictionless solid mass with no kinetic energy. Henceforth it is still the opinion of this thread that the future playing fields of FIRST be at 0 Kelvin. Amen
