I enjoyed it there very much last year an dwould like to volunteer again.

Every year I say I will make it to IRI and it never happens. So...consequently...
I will be at IRI unless
1) I'm in Greece or Spain
2) I have some college orientation thing to go to
3) I'm on my deathbed or something

Horrible excuses Genia, all of them. ;)
I. Am already. Excited. Because this will not interfere with my trip to Turkey in the least. And as for colleges, well, the way I see it is this: IRI is once per year, college lasts all year. I'm going to have to say that the score for this bad boy is IRI: 1, College: 0.

If you want to be added to an IRI email distribution, please send your team name, your name and contact email to robotinfo@att.net
Please limit to one contact per team.
We will post info here on CD and the IndianaFIRST web site, but will also email updates to teams that want to get info that way.

Unless there is some sort of freak occurence... I will be there!
I love the fact that it will once again be on my birthday. (Although I was completely mortified when they dragged me onstage at the talent show and sang for me... lol)
I had such an amazing time last year, and I definitely want to do it again. If my team isn't there, I will be sure to volunteer. IRI is one of the best run offseason events I have ever attended.
See you all there!

I REALLY REALLY WANT TO GO!
But with the fact that my parents laid out $6000 for a new car this year,
(yes, the teal station wagon finally died!)
and the fact that I have to pay them back...
I'm not sure I'll make it!
But I'll fundraise if I have to XD
I'm trying to convince 1089 to go anyway!

19-03-2006, 21:20
Do I even need to answer this question? I will anyway. Yes, I am going! I will try to never miss it the rest of my life. For those of you who have never been, it is bigger then almost every regional. The teams are all "legends" in their own rights. Every match is high intensity and has a certain feel that can not even be described. It is also fun afterwords. There is normally a talent show and a dinner before it on Friday night, maybe a concert by some crazy people. Hopefully, we can get some dodgeball in this year. But, to any of you considering coming. Come! It will be the most fun you have ever had!

I absolutely loved IRI last year... definitely going to try to make the trip again.... maybe will be 25's pit girl again... we'll see...
Tons of awesome memories from IRI 2005... shaving cream, bawls, ice buckets, glow stick balls, stake and shake, **** wagon, toy bow and arrows and swords, blow up alligators, hotel pool, laser tag, no sleep... just way too much fun. Hope we can get last year's group together for lots more fun! :) See you all there!
i will be there
pretty sure 65 will be there too
don't quote me though
i will have graduated so i can go on my own...yes
haha
see every one there
<3
Hopefully at least 1 martian team will be able to attend and if not i might just swing by as part of the family vacation.(I met the team there last year :p )
Plan on seeing the CyberCards there - we'll be easy to spot since we're probably the only team with a 4-digit number....

Henry and I have to make our final trip out there. I'll make sure 222 goes. :D Always have a blast at IRI!
For those of you who have never been, it is bigger then almost every regional.
I'm going to IRI to see what a small regional is like. I've only been to one regional that was smaller then IRI.
I've marked my calander and will NOT be in NY this year. :D

If all goes well, I will be there along with the rest of 469, waiting for that week-long party condensed into two days.
Anyone have any plans on where they're going to be staying yet? (I know it's early, but it can't hurt to ask) I always think the hotel is more entertaining when there's some other teams there too! Especially during breakfast: "I had no idea your team was even in Indiana! I talked to you in your pits yesterday? Ohh... I remember now"

This is sounding interesting. Usually our team doesn’t do anything off season, but last year we started to venture out during off season (mainly because I planned it). But if its not too extraneously far away (Indiana isn't that far for us) then we would most likely go. Would be a good opportunity to show new students what FIRST is all about. Looks like another event for the off season for us!

26-03-2006, 18:29
I'm definately working to make sure 116 returns for our second go around (and hopefully not get rained on and get last place this time around), and if we don't I'll try to come anyway! :D
It was awesome last year! Thanks again for all of you who helped to dry off our robot :p !
After hearing from Ed about IRI on the way to GTR this year, I defiantly want to volunteer.

Let's see....1 (first digit)....5 (second digit)....0 (third digit)....1 (fourth digit). Yep, four digits :D
We will be there with bells on. Shoot, bells aren't allowed

Team 25 will most definitely make the 12 hour venture out to Indy again.
56 had a great time last year traveling out to Indiana with our good friends on 25 and don't plan on missing the trip this year, we have a new bot, and a BIGGER trailer. PERHAPS! a BIGGER CONVOY of NJ teams. cant wait for IRI 2006!!!

1712 may be in for a big bot, and we've got this Vex stuff (perhaps new recruits for next year...) Kyle, keep me posted on the vex possibilities, I'm going to find out if 1712 is in and how many might be going.

I'm definately working to make sure 116 returns for our second go around (and hopefully not get rained on and get last place this time around)Unfortunately, team 461 also knows what it feels like to come in last at IRI due to tremendous robot malfunction. :( It can be argued that IRI is one of the hardest competitions of the year, even harder than any regional in my opinion (except maybe Ypsilanti or Midwest).
461 will be there again and we'll try and bring our Purdue buddies (1646 and 1747). I look forward to seeing everyone there, especially our faithful sidekick, 1501.

Oh you can bet there is going to be some Vex action! I guess this can kind of serve as a pre-imptive official un-official announcement of the 2006 Vex "[game is secret for know]" Challenge!
Any team that is interested please e-mail us at 447.FIRST@gmail.com so we can get a rough head count and a feel for who all is going to be there!

Yeah, I am looking to possibly attending and helping out and also want to see what all the hype is about of IRI!
looks like a small group from 233 will be making the long drive again - but so worth it. IRI was one of the best off season events that we've been to. maybe our team will have a better talent than last years "nose pipes"

As I understand it, you can do any mods that you want, as long as it conforms to the 2006 FIRST rules, typically there aren't inspections, honor system. But, If someone has a issue with a robot they can be checked, I believe.

Jim Schaddelee
Robots have to stay within the FIRST rules. You can modify as long as you are still within the size and weight limitations.
We work on a level of trust and sportsmanship and do not inspect, weigh and size the robots.
BUT... If the referees feel a robot looks too heavy or too big or there is unsafe goings-on-in-there, then they will inspect certain machines.

Hmm.. so.. if I flew in Friday, would there be hotels nearby, and how the heck would I get to the comp?? Is it close to an airport or anything?
I'm thinking of finally going. I was told I have to actually..
But.. where would I stay, and how would I get there.. lol
I'm not looking to mooch rides, or places to stay (although that would be fun I'm sure. lol), I just never paid attention to any of the people asking this in previous years and want to know.
Maybe tomorrow at lunch time during work, I'll look at old IRI threads for ideas..

hmm... I think I might be coming up with something for the talent show too. I think I am going to put my singing skills to work this year, instead of chickening out like I did last year.
I hope to sing something a cappella, but is anyone out there willing to play a beginning chord for me (so I can sing the rest of the song in the correct key) on any sort of instrument (preferably guitar)?
I am hoping to volunteer there again this year. I also want to travel there by myself this time (my team probably can't go), and I am looking to perhaps share a room with people I know already... so if any of my friends are going, I might be joining you (if my parents will let me, of course). :)

As far as getting to the competition site, there are usually people from the Indy area who will be more than willing to give you a ride. A lot of times, people's flights come in pretty close too so picking a few people up from the airport isn't uncommon.
In terms of places to stay, there are hotels right down the street from the school.

The airport is on the west side of Indy, and the competition is on the northeast side. not a bad drive, but too far to walk. :)
There are hotels nearby, and several offer IRI Rates (petty cool, huh).
We will post the hotels and rates as soon as we have them. I think there were three that offered deals last year.
As for transportation, it is an expensive cab ride, but you could probably work out for someone to give you a ride from the airport, or get a small group together and rent a car. We are usually done by 5 PM on Saturday, so a return flight at 8 - 9 PM or on Sunday morning would be best.

There will be an info letter sent to teams that have previously attended or sent us contact info. The same info will also be posted here at the same time. It should be here Friday (5th).
The letter gives the details, but here are some highlights.
We have space for about 60 - 70 teams. Registration starts Monday the 8th,
and will be on team 234's web site. There will be links from here on CD. The web site is www.cyberblue234.com.
Indiana teams and returning teams get first priority, then we try to get a mix of newer teams and veteran teams and different parts of the country (or the world, depending on who registers). That is why we will not post a team list until the 15th. In past years, we have been able to accept all teams that have wanted to attend, but last year we were very close to the limit.
Volunteers will sign up through an email address and the info posted tomorrow will tell what the address is and what detail to include. We try to keep it simple.
The posting will also include info on scholarships, the talent show and the auction.
We have hotels with special deals and should have that info in a few days, also.
Hopefully this covers all the recent questions.
Watch for more info in the next few days. :)

IRI 2006 TEAM UPDATE #1
MAY 1, 2006
Teams,
Registration for the 2006 IRI will open on Monday, May 8, 2006, at Noon.
Registration will be through Team 234’s website – www.cyberblue234.com.
The 2006 IRI is July 21 and 22, 2006
The first listing of registered teams will be on May 15. This will give us time to sort all of the entries and be sure we have the information correct. INDIANA teams have first priority in registration and are guaranteed an entry as long as they register by Friday May 12. If the team list is too long, we will create a waiting list and post it.
The 2006 IRI location is Lawrence North High School, the same location as 2005.
Entry Fee for all FIRST Robotics teams is $350 plus a filled backpack for a 2nd grade student. The items for the backpack are listed below. The entry fee for VEX Teams is $50. While not required, VEX teams are also encouraged to bring a backpack for a 2nd grader.
The entry fees must be paid by June 15 or the team will be removed from the registered list and placed at the end of the waiting list. Any team that has not paid their entry fee by July 1 will be removed from the listing and considered ‘withdrawn’. This has to be done so that we know how many teams to plan for food, pit space and match listings. Please understand this and help us out. If you have a special situation regarding the registration fee it must be agreed through Chris Fultz (robotinfo@att.net)
The event includes Friday night dinner for all team members and active mentors.
You will need to indicate how many dinner tickets you need and include $1 per person for dinner tickets. It is only $1 but helps us get a better idea on how to plan for food.
Please do not plan to come in on Thursday night (July 20) and set up your pit and work on your robot. Thursday night is for field and pit set up and we need to be able to get this done without teams there working. Doors will open at 7 AM on Friday July 21 for all teams.
The 2006 IRI Plans Currently Include:
* Exciting “AIM HIGH” Action on the playing field.
* The traditional “Mentors Only” round.
* Friday Night Dinner & Saturday Morning Donuts, Milk and Juice
* Silent Auction For Charity (we already have some AWESOME items!)
* DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT on Friday Night
* The Annual Talent Show
* Dean Simmons and the Kamens World Tour (We are Stop #6)
* A NEW GAME VEX Tournament – Details announced before June 1.
* The Battle of the MC’s
* SCHOLARSHIPS!
* Traditional FIRST Awards and some unique IRI Awards
Keep an eye on Chief Delphi and IndianaFIRST for updates.
Planning Team: Chris Fultz (234), Andy Baker (45), Libby Ritchie (393)

For SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available to 2006 graduates who are attending a college or university on a full time basis beginning in the summer or fall of 2006.
Send the following information to SCHOLAR@indianafirst.org.
Your name, team affiliation, years in FIRST, college attending, field of study,
summer address, email address and a phone contact and the name of two references who will provide letters for you.
Include a short essay (1 – 2 pages) that tells: What FIRST has meant to you, how FIRST has influenced your college and career plans, and what you career plans are. Please us MS WORD or a word compatible document.
Ask two references to send letters for you. They need to include Your Name and Team Number, their name, Summer address, email address and a phone contact. Please send these via email to SCHOLAR@indianafirst.org. An email format or an MS WORD document is fine.
SILENT AUCTION
We will once again have a Silent Auction for several donated items, most of which are directly related to FIRST and FIRST teams. All proceeds from this auction will be provided to the Child Life Center at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. This is the same facility we supported in 2005.
All items must be paid for and taken with you at the end of the IRI. Winners of items will be announced during the final tournament matches and awards ceremony of the IRI.
Watch Chief Delphi for a listing of sample items as we get closer to the IRI.
TALENT SHOW
We will once again have a top-notch panel of celebrity judges for the Talent SHOW. Send your entry to TALENT@indianaFIRST.org with your name, team, talent and contact info. You must register before JULY 1 to be considered. You will be contacted by the talent committee either before the IRI or on Friday morning. ALL ACTS WILL BE SCREENED ON FRIDAY BEFORE YOU PERFORM. NO EXCEPTIONS.
DODGEBALL
We are still working the details on the dodgeball tournament and will post more later. This tournament will be sanctioned by the Indiana Association of Dodgeball of Indiana (IADI) and will feature professional referees.
HOTELS
Several local hotels are making rooms available for IRI participants. These will be listed separately after the details are finalized.
This info as an MSWORD document is attached.

116 is excited to make the trip out to Indianapolis again, it was a blast last year (despite our bot getting soaked and coming in last place)! Hopefully we can organize an act in the talent show this year as well. FVC 18 might be able to make the trip too, just need to see if we have the support to bring enough people who want to work with Vex (alot of the Vex kids are looking forward to working with the FRC bot over the summer).

Well it looks like Irrational is sending 229 a message. She's been in Indianapolis since May 4th and hasn't left yet. I'm thinking she wants me to have another go at getting all of 229 there. But at the moment that is looking like a no from our teachers. But have no fears, I am positive i will be there this year. (No Driver education to stop me.)

ANy tentative schedule out yet??
As in, not just what happens, but when or at least what day they happen??
What goes on Friday as opposed to Saturday?
For IRI newbies like Elgin...
Thursday from 1:00-7:00 field setup & socializing
Thursday evening, various informal activities take place, ranging from pit setup groups gathering for dinner to band practice.
Some teams arrive Thursday night, and bring in their stuff
Friday morning (really early) a local television spot is usually made
Teams arrive Friday in the morning, set up their stuff, and start running practice matches
Before noon on Friday, Q matches begin
Q matches last until around 6 or 7, and then there is a meal
After the meal on Friday, a talent show will take place
After the talent show, the DS&K band will see what they can pull off this year
Saturday morning, there will be some consumption of donuts and drink
Saturday will continue, and end up much like a Saturday during a FIRST Regional
Also, there will be a 1 hour dodge ball competition (or an exhibition of special matches?? - we shall see) on Saturday
Essentially, Mr. Clock, it is a downright great time. Show up Thursday evening for the full effect. The above schedule is rough for a purpose... it will be set more accurately within a few weeks.

TEAM LIST AND INVOICES
We will publish a team listing Monday (not sure what time).
Also, we will post a generic invoice on the cyber blue website that has all of the payment information. You will just need to print it, fill in your team name and number, and create a total for the entry (fee + dinner). Please remember to send a copy of the invoice when you send payment - it helps us make sure the credit goes to the right team.
Is there still room left to sign up? Half of our team can't read number so we thought that we couldn't come because of conflicting outreach events. But now we might be able to come.
When is the team list going to show up? I'm really excited to see who will be battling it out at the best offseason competition.

We're buying a bunch of new balls from Poof. This "bunch" should be enough for the full event (120 if I recall what Chris said about a week ago).
Also, depending on how many of these new balls get tore up, our backup balls are from the host teams.

From what I've found working at 3 competitions (1 field reset & 2 reffing), having 140 (not including spares) works best. That way, you can have the 6 robots fully load up the 60 balls while they're cuing without stealing balls from the field. This alone can shave off a minute or two from each match's setup time.

Sorry if this has been said or already asked, I searched.
Can you tell us some of the things that will be included in the silent auction?

We will get a thread going on the auction items, but a few if the items are:
2 tickets to the 2006 Nascar race at the Brickyard
A supersized FIRST shirt quilt
A signed game ball from the winning alliance at the Isreal Regional
T shirts from the winning alliance at the Isreal Regional
and a raffle for VEX kits

So what is happening behind the scenes at IRI? Anything interesting happening.
Also was there some awesome plays or matches you have seen.
The greatest match/alliance ever assembled on Friday. The blue alliance of Thunder chickens, WildStang, and team 70 The More Martians, against the red alliance Cyber Cards, Raider Robotix and 1000 I believe was the third team. That super blue alliance was the scariest thing in the world. They posted the second lowest score in the whole competition. You know 18 to 2 is just a dominating performance. WildStang made two shots while being superbly defended by 1529, 70 had a ball land on the outside of their shooter jamming it stuck but manged to push a ball in the corner, and those Thunder chickens fired absolutely no balls the entire match. It was worse when WildStang received a penalty. But man that was unimaginable.
Just wanted to say great job to 71, Beatty, 1625, Winovation, and 910, Foley Freeze. You were an amazing alliance and together, took down what I thought to be the greatest alliance ever matched in 2006 with 25, 1114, and 33, not to mention a supurb effort against the reigning IRI and National Champions in 233 and 217.
It was an intense regional. I think I cheered harder in Beatty's semifinal and finals matches today than I ever have in even our own matches.
Oh, and it was great getting to go in for a match and get a reservation for the whooping we knew we would recieve by 25, 1114, and 33.
Great event, great times. Good job. Thanks to all of the teams who helped to organize the event.
Our team had a great time at the IRI...we went in knowing that we'd have a hard time playing against 3 point shooters, but we did pretty well with our bot. We had played a few of the teams in the St. Louis Regionals and we noticed the improvement that some of the bots had since the last time we saw them.
The younger kids from our team really enjoyed the VEX layout - thanks to the team who thought to bring that layout with them.
I'm so glad we all stayed until the very end - the semi final matches were so intense. I've never seen so many balls flying at the same time - it was chaos! All the teams did a great job!
The whole event was awesome. Thanks to all the teams/parents/volunteers who put it together.

Beat me to it! But also, could you post the match list and such. I'd like to get my story straight as tell anyone who'll listen about Friends of 1213 at IRI '06.
