How you turn your shooter?

Looks like the robot is tipped up on its side and this is a bottom view?

awesome looking base... how much weight is that adding to your robot?

I must know at once where you got that insanely large internal gear.

Wow... lots of things here. Let me comment after picking my jaw off the floor.

First of all, I think that is the most awesome, coolest turret ever in FIRST. How did you make the ring gears? Are they wire EDM'ed? Did you have to be precise in how the ring gear segments were lined up?

Secondly... nice holonomic drive. This may be the first worm gear 4 wheel Killough platform in FIRST.

You have this innovative drive base with a drop dead gorgeous turret. These two innovations together takes alot of guts to pull off. This is surely inspirational stuff. Way to go Metalheads!

(edit... initially, I thought this was 85's robot...)

Last year you guys had the awesome corkscrew tetra grabbers. This year, you have this innovative drive base with a drop dead gorgeous turret. These two innovations together takes alot of guts to pull off. This is surely inspirational stuff. Way to go Built on Brains!!

Andy B.
Er, isn't Built On Brains team 85?

Regardless, this looks awesome. What's y'all's world tour shaping up to be?

I like it. That must have taken a while to build.

How does it work though?

(Note to self)-He's not going to tell, that's the point of a spoiler.

After staring at it for a while like this :ahh: ... I would like to ask just like another member asked in this thread... how much does that beast weigh?

I've never seen so much and yet so little. An awesome drive and turret, but I have no clue how you intend to shoot or gather balls. I can see you have some wheels on top, but they seem so far apart. And the canvas on right is very intriguing. I guess you intend to fold out a conveyor system from your starting position?

I get that it's a teaser though, I just can't wait to see it in action!

good call. I had a similar design that I thought up for our bot, and it got shot down for that reason. Needless to say, this is one sick, sick robot.

Nice battery box (if that's what it is on the left). My team built five battery boxes because the previous one just didn't work. The final version was tweaked to fit from my design, so I'm happy. :D

Wow, just wow. A few things i noticed:
1) at least one of the Densos appears to have a 3 pronged boomerang on it...no clue what that's for

2) There is more to this robot than is shown. it appears to extend off the right side of the picture, presumably where the collector mechanism is (powered by the Globe)

3) 2 treaded wheels and on treaded drum are visible through the cutouts in the turret

and now for my question: Why do you need a turret with holonomic drive? By definition, holonomic can rotate whilst translating? I understand that the collection mechanism can only face one direction, but it still seems redundant. I'm sure i'm about to be proved wrong tho. Good job guys!

I will try to answer some of the questions in this post. Thank you all for your encouragement and support.

Looks like the robot is tipped up on its side and this is a bottom view?Yes.
awesome looking base... how much weight is that adding to your robot? Not much, actually. We are around 100 pounds with everything on the robot.
I must know at once where you got that insanely large internal gear.We made it. :)

Unfortunately I don't know how the gears were made. Ask me about anything else, and I could answer it. :(
I'll ask the other members sometime soon. :)

This, plus the SBC you posted earlier... Still clueless with where you're going with all this... But I can't wait to see your finished robot!

They probably want to be able to shoot without having to rotate the robot to align the shooter.

Great tech in the pic above.

Battery box? We use two bungee cords. Simple. Light. Cheap. My kind of tech.

First off thats amazing. That is the single largest FIRST turret i've ever seen and its on top of a holonomic drive base. To do both with such style and grace is really quite fantastic.

Secondly, on the right, a globe motor looks like it drops down a fabric ramp of sorts. I can't be certain but it looks like it would lead into a a conveyor belt system which includes those traction wheels up top. I initially thought they were for a second drop down drive system but I just don't see the openings in the turret.

Thats one hell of a teaser. Its awe inspriing just sitting on its side so I can't wait to see the whole thing in action.

This and your SBC teaser. WOW. You guys are going to have 1 amazing robot. What are the dimensions on the turret?

Hmm everyone seems to be talking about the basics, lets see what the other details reveal
Notice the:

A few AndyMark Traction wheels in the center of the turret (hmm is it the shooter?)
Two Mini bike motors are inside the turret, looks like one of them drives it.
Smaller Cims drive all the wheels for holonomic drive
There are two window motors inside the turret...looks like they do something different (move the turret up and down?)
See the globe motor all the way over on the right of the picture? Yeah it drives this really big conveyor belt by the look of it.
What's that poof ball doing?
Hmm this teaser is the first real head scratcher, I really want to see this robot when its done now.
