yeah exotics are cool and all. but i dunno, overdone?
i really like a modest old golf cabrio. old school, with some sporty charm.
if we must go exotic, i say the lotus elise. really small, decent power. quick as anything.
EDIT: yeah i like those classics up above. rally driving has to be great too.
So I guess i'm some kind of car-whore. i just love all of 'em.

Toyota MR2 - 2nd Generation
i'm a hardcore Toyota fan.. everyone in my family owns one... and my dream car is an electric blue either 1st or 2nd generation MR2... ^_^ i cant stand the Spyders, though... They look too much like Porshes... and i've taken a disliking to anything thats not hardtop. (t-tops are fine though. :D) ...plus, i love covert lights. (they're cute, i'm sorry!)
some people actually think of MR2s as exotics.. but they're not really. they're just rare imports... regardless.. most of you have great taste. ^_^

Probably not, but the Jeep Hurricane was an engineering marvel. Pretty much 0 degree turning radius, two independant Hemi V-8s producing a combined 700 hp, being able to turn off cylinders when they weren't nesessary, it truly was a masterpiece of enginneering.
I think they made it as more of a proof of concept for many things then being an actual production car. If I remember correctly, Jeep was able to make quite a few patents off of it.
But since so many people posted the original GT 500, here is the modern interpretation of the legendary classic.

Actually, the current Mustang GT shoves out 300+HP, while the 2007 Shelby GT500KR will be 450+HP (Ford is still trying to see if they can get it to the magic 500HP in time for production). And, yeah, that will beat the original - even Carroll Shelby says so. But for pure rattle-your-teeth-till-they-fall-out raw power that you could feel and the whole neighborhood could hear, the orginal Shelby GT500KR will always be hard to top!

Ford and Shelby would LOVE to have that 500 mean more than 1 thing - so I think they WILL have it hit 500 rated hp (I think they are going to underrate it a little)
I'm not worried - and that'll be the street car to beat in that price range...

Hau Thai-Tang - head of Ford SVT - gave an interview in (I think it was) Road & Track about the new Shelby right after it was unveiled at the New York Auto Show. They asked him directly about the HP rating. He said that the then-current build was a strong 450HP, and they still had a lot of performance squeezing to do. All he would admit is that it would be "well over the current 450HP rating." It certainly seems like they are sniffing after 500HP to me.
Now all I need is a really good friend at Ford that can get a break on the price for me... :)

Oops... Look like I confused my Mustang Boss and Shelby Mustang GT500... As a few people have mentioned at the moment power output is claimed to be about 470 - 480 hp, though Ford claimed the power output for the Ford GT was 550 hp and when it really was closer to 600...
Hitting the 500 hp mark probably isn't that far out and either way, its going to be up there with the Corvettes and Vipers in terms of proformance.

Apples and oranges for thoes 2 engines right there...
Vipers use a V-10 with the 8.3 (Not 100% sure and don't feel like checking)
The Z06 uses the LS2 with the V-8 6.0
The mustang will be using (if I still rember this correctly) the 5.4 supercharged...
3 Completely different engines to me. The drawback to a super charger is get up to highway speeds - and then stomp on it and see how fast you go.

This car gets my vote for personality (though I'm not sure I would really want an orange car): Lotus Exige (http://www.autozine.org/gallery/lotus/Exige2.htm) And I've always had a fondness for the Maserati (http://www.maserati.com/jsp/introSottosezione.jsp?menuKey=m58&category=%2Fmaserati%2Fcars%2Fmcc&BV_SessionID=@@@@0699376172.1139977615@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdaddgmimdhdfcefeceegdgimdfmg.0) however I've just been told I can never own a Maserati since it would make me constantly sing "my Maserati does 185..." If money were no object, I would go for the antique cars, lots of them! Especially the Roadsters! (http://www.ravonstreetrods.com/roadsters.html) Sigh. For now, it's just going to have to be me and my Saturn. okay, so my saturn is short on personality, but it's a pretty shade of green.

Actually, the Z06 uses a 7.0 Liter small block engine. But look at the Ferrari F430, it has 4.3 Liter V-8 (Formula 1 inspired of course), and that car ups the horsepower on all these cars. It's all about the how it's engineered and how efficient it can be made. The 06 Mustang GT500 might not be quite as fast as the Viper and the Corvette, but its still going to have super car performance for at least 2/3rds the price.
But in terms of engines, yes, all three of them are completely different, but rarely do competing car manufacturers use the same methods when designing their engines, especially when you get into the high-performance range.

Gotta say one of these two: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, or the Ferrari F-430.
I pick these two, even though one of them is a lesser known ferrari, all because having ridden in them, they are great machines. The Scaglietti's paddle shifting makes it perfect for back country roads, while the F-430's speed is great in the straighline runs.
In this picture you can see the two cars in the same garage, both owned and driven by the same (anonymous) person. I took this picture last time I was over at his house.

I mean seriously, who hasn't driven an MGB at some point in their lives? If you haven't yet, one day you will. Or maybe Miatas will become the new MGB of my generation.
In any case, an MG is just a blast to drive. Not the fastest, but they will still corner better then most new cars. You get that classic car exhaust smell, classic sports car sound and classic sport car wiring! It's the kind of car that has problems that just endear it all the more to you. You just can't hate it even when it strands you in the middle of nowhere with a dead water pump.
Yup. Give me a nice MG with the original ratty looking interior, leaky top, solid lifters that never shim right and the 30 other things you can never get quite fixed. Those aren't problems, thats all character.
