I'm sure we'll try and get Allentown (1807) to come too!

Mentor driving is a real crowd pleaser. Some of my favorite moments during the Capital Clash occurred during the mentor driving matches.

Better yet-make it mandatory for your Senior Mentor! Better put this event at the end if Kloberg is driving :ahh:

How about a match with Kloberg, Kressly, and Jenny each driving a robot... That's one alliance... Then another with the best(?) drivers at the event...

Oh the carnage :D

No just too much time staring at a computer screen...

A robot that responds to voice commands? Why do you expect it to listen to your voice commands? It's not like the students listen to your voice commands :p

Besides, I'm not sure something like "Don't tip over! oh god, please don't tip over" is a voice command.

I am extremely excited about the event just a few days away... the field is already sitting in our hallway just waiting for someone to put it together....

Aside from the competition, I am looking forward to a bunch of other things as well..... for instance, the look on everyone's faces when they see the kinds of things that we are selling. We have the traditional shirts, pens, notepads etc. But we also have Monty Madness candy bars. They are Nestle Chocolate bars with the Monty Madness logo engraved into the chocolate and with the special monty madness wrapper. We have 700 of them and are expecting to sell out quickly...

I also heard the volunteer shirts are really nice. They aren't the traditional shirts, but rather they are customized polo shirts that look really cool.

We also have one more surprise that will be announced a little later down the week after we confirm that it is actually going to happen.... :)

It's not raining/flooding in Jersey too is it?? :ahh:

Going by the team list, (http://www.montymadness.org/My_Homepage_Files/Page8.html) it looks as though we are the northern most team coming to Monty. It had better not be raining.
I wanna come down south for this weekend and actually dry out!!!

Too bad for all the teams going to BTB in Boston.
It'll probably still be raining there with no chance of drying out ones self on Saturday..

Its pretty dry down here, not too much rain... cloudy, but i think its safe to say, you might just have a chance to dry out.

I'm here at Monty, it's really really really really nice. We're setting up scoring right now. Lots of "fun".

Wow, what a great event! Thanks to 1403 and in particular Dave Kazan for being such gracious hosts! Even with the initial glitches, you worked it out and got it rolling! I sincerely hope you consider doing that again.

Some of our teammates and mentors couldn't make it, so they were watching the webcast and calling me throughout the QFs and SFs asking what was going on. It was so cool you did that.

Obviously, thanks to 25 and 371 for being such excellent alliance partners, and thanks to the judges for our "Woodie Flowers Jr. Award"! Everyone was so excited!!!

The one comment I need to make is -- my wife is going to kill me when she finds out how much MM merchandise I bought. I mean, come on "How to survive the Robot Uprising?" How could you NOT get it. :) I bought about $70 worth of stuff.

Great job, guys!!!

Wow, what a great event! Thanks to 1403 and in particular Dave Kazan for being such gracious hosts . . .

Chris,

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement both in your post and during the day (even when we weren't quite sure what we were doing during our long day's journey into night :o ). We, in Montgomery and Team 1403, together with about 85 volunteers from FIRST teams and alumni all over (particularly our neighbors, Team 75 in Hillsborough), were working to make the event enjoyable for everyone involved.

We're very happy that we really got a good turnout from the non-FIRST community so that they could get a taste of what robotics, science and technology education are all about. Now when we talk with the schools, residents, and businesses in town, we're hoping that there will be instant recognition as to what we're talking about when we mention robotics and FIRST.

Thanks again to you Chris and everyone who has displayed such "gracious professionalism" at our event. It really is so appreciated.

Thanks, David K.

monty madness was awsome! lots of good teams, cheap food, cheap merch, helpful volunteers who knew what they were doing. the only thing that was sort of bad was running late, but they made up some time by rushing teams to move faster and by canceling qualification matches and the mentor match.

Good Job 1403 for an awsome event, Team 237 will definately be back, if not the whole team then some of us to help out atleast! :yikes:

I'd like to personally thank everyone that came down for a very successful First Time Off Season. We hope everyone enjoyed the event, and we are considering planning next year already (we have a pool in our school, hehe)

I'd also like to give a very big thanks to everyone involved with the media end of it, the webcast, the video footage (HD Video archive coming soon), the audio.

Being part of the Ref crew all day yesterday was not only a honor, but a lot of fun too, I believe Sara, Mike, Liz, Adam, Joe, Jay, and Sky all had a great time in a fairly easy to Ref event. I want to thank all the volunteers on field reset also, those of you that stayed with us all day deserve a BIG thank you.

Dave Kazan, deserves the biggest thank you of all, and if it wasn't for his Hardwork, Motivation, and Leadership, none of this would of happened at all. Thanks again for running the show (and doing such a great job at it)

We knew we didn't have the most competitve event this year, but we did know we could have the most fun at an event this year. And I think we did have the most fun at an event this year.

kazand
21-05-2006, 13:38
Well we're not planning any event for next year right now. At this point, we're going to take a breather and assess what we'll do going forward, which will certainly include more activities than an off-season event (like building the 2007 robot  ).

Just one thing: I've noticed that there are a number of comparisons between off-season events in both this thread and others. My personal opinion is that this doesn't seem to be a particularly useful thing to do. Let's think "big picture" here, practice our graciousness, and remember that all teams holding off-season events should be considered partners and not competitors. And what I mean is that off-season event organizers are all attempting to bring the core values of FIRST to a larger community and instill a sense of excitement for science and technology. How we accomplish this may be different, but rich diversity in approach can be good while we all share a common vision.

Thank you to everyone who could make it out to this year's Monty Madness. It was great to see such a large turn out especially since this was a first year event. The competition was very tiring, but definitely worth it. We hope that we were successful in spreading the ideas of FIRST to the communities around us because that was actually one of the main goals of this off-season competition. Everything ran well(but a little delayed :p ) and it was great to see everyone so excited about all of the stuff we were selling :) .

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made it out to the competition. Without you guys, we would not have been able to put on the show.

See you at Duel on the Delaware, Ramp Riot, and Brunswick Eruption.... ;)

I want to add my compliments on the great day yesterday. Dave and his 1403 crew put on a great event and made it look easy. Everything was staged in a professional manner and I look forward to many more MMs to come in the future. Our team enjoyed training new drivers and mixing it up in the elims with many of our local friends.

Thanks and congrats to 1089 and 371 for being great partners. Of course I am partial to 1089, but I must say I've never seen a team rebuild a frame and drive wheels as fast as 371 in the Semis! It was quite a run.

25...thanks for a bunch of great matches. our alliance worked really hard, and there was no way we could have stopped you, save the "oops! did i spill water on THAT? was that important?" approach. and that would have been way uncool.

Don't know exactly. We need to re-encode the video in Windows Media Player from the DVDs that we created. What we'll probably do is start with the final matches and work backwards to the beginning qualifying matches. It is a time consuming process, but we'll try to do this in good time.
