View Full Version : Camera Freezes?

Our team has been encountering a weird behavior of this year's camera. It will go through it's searching pattern and it does find the light. We have our cannon synced up with the camera's values. But sometimes the camera will completely stop all motion as if it was frozen. The servos motors are humming, but nothing is moving. Could this be a hardware problem? Or is there a problem with Kevin's Code? The only way we can reset it, is if we unplug our main battery, and the backup battery for 10 seconds. and plug in the backup battery FIRST and then the main battery. Is anyone having this problem?

Hmm...could we have a batch of intermittent controllers this year?

The symptoms sound very similar to mine, except I am running the 2005 IFI camera drivers.

I hope someone knows something about this! ;)

We also get this problem... the camera puts the locked red light on , even though there is nothing in the viscinity and no matter what I do (block the lens etc) nothing happens~!

Our camera also locks up sporadically with the red locked light staying on. It seems to reset if we open the main breaker for a minute or so. It seems to happen most often when we were trouble shooting auton code and reloading code and resetting the controller sporadically without powering down the robot. Our programming mentor thinks that it is happening when the camera doesn't initialize correctly??

We've seen the exact same problem. Same symptoms - red light is on, won't search even if I cover the lens, etc. This happened even with Kevin's default streamlined code. Just like someone mentioned, it seems to go away when we completely power down the robot for 10 seconds or so seconds. I hope the problem doesn't strike during a match.

I too have had this problem.

It's the backup battery. It's dying. When you do a "cold boot" the battery can often eake out enough power to run the camera again for a little while, and then it will "freeze" again after a bit. During testing I had to cycle the backup battery once every 15 minutes or so to prevent this.

We had this problem last year, even with a full backup battery. We found that the best solution was, if we weren't recieving anything back from the camera for a while, to just re-initialize it. That always seemed to fix it last year.

Haven't had any troubles yet this year, but also haven't been playing with the camera very much yet.

I had the same problem but at a practice round the camera totaly quit i tried everything but it wouldn't start working. IFI is replaceing my camera because it totaly stoped maybe this is a known problem and IFI can help. I suggest having a backup camera at any compition.

The problem worsened at trenton, the camera spazes out when we disable it or put it into program state. The hard reset even stopped working and we had to rewire our camera(only the data port though). We've tried replacing the backup battery with new ones and sometimes that dosnt work. We are also using Kevins latest code so Im not sure what else we can do.
