All right, now that STAR WARS EPISODEII has opened big and SPIDER-MAN has turned out huge what other summer pics are you interested in seeing?
MEN IN BLACK II looks fun as does LILO AND STITCH ( I'm a sucker for aniamtion. If the movie is anything like it's previews this one could be a classic!) and I have great interest in a less hyped Touchstone flick called REIGN OF FIRE. Think of it as DRAGONSLAYER meets THE ROAD WARRIOR. It sounds cool.:)

The Matrix didn't really impress me but I'm sure I'll end up seeing it.
The Hulk had a good trailer.
Austin Powers 3: Goldmember.
Undercover Brother looked pretty good, but I think it is one of those movies that has all the funny jokes in the trailer.
Men In Black II is gonna be good.

wouldn't surprise me if he leaves it after ep. 3. Although....7-9 could potentially be better because the story line won't have to be as limited as 1-3. Well, the 1-3 story didn't have to be limited, but it is. So....i dunno.
Definitely looking forward to MIB 2 and LOTR 2-3. Normally, i don't get hyped about sequels, but MIB 2 looks hilarious. LOTR will be good if they follow the story as well as the first did. Matrix 2-3....trying not to hold my breath too bad so i won't be disappointed if they suck.
Also, there were a couple of cool previews before Spiderman...the guy who joins the CIA cause his twin brother got killed, and the one with Adam Sandler both look funny.
Oh, and i want to see stuart little 2....:D
I read the book for Ep 8 (or was it 7)... but anyways... trust me, you wouldn't want that to become a movie. There just isn't enough to become a movie, and it would most likely be bland.

i'm waiting to see Reign of Fire, which i heard about from a friend. i so love dragons! i really hope they don't hype that up too too much. i'm also waiting for Lord of the Rings, Two Towers. i've been waiting for that since i first read the novel many years ago, but i'm still waiting, and more anxious than ever!
Anyone know when they plan on having the new lotr trailers up? I can't wait for it.
Dan is looking forward to:
- MIIB (get it like the posters, foo's! ;) )
- Austin Powers 3 (eh, maybe... sequel seemed a bit bleh, seems to me like they're doing the 3rd to make a few more bucks on an already dead idea... might be cool though)
- James Bond (when I saw the trailer for this at Star Wars, it began with a classical James Bond opening (meaning naked chicks). I thought it was Bond, but wasn't exactly sure. Suddenly it cuts to a car speeding accross the ice with the Bond music playing. When this happened, I smiled, sat back in my seat, and was like, "Yeeeeaaaah..." Bond is classic!)
Scooby Doo has great childhood memories, but it's either going to be pretty cool or pretty bad. Can't tell that well from the previews.
As for Reign of Fire, I've never heard of it before, but I just saw the trailer off quicktime.com... looks pretty cool. Another trailer on there is Zu Warriors... the special effects in that movie look amazing!

I didn't include it in my initial list of summer want-to-see list but the more I heard about it, the more my interest grew. It also helped that Memento was my favorite movie from last year, so I think Chritopher Nolan has earned a second look from me. Boy am I glad! This movie is actually better than Memento!
The movie isn't so much about solving the murder as it is about Al Pacino's LA Cop trying to escape what turns out to be a lifetime of dubious choices that lead him deeper and deeper into a mess that he just cannot pull himself free of.
Alot of people talk about the scene in Star Wars Episode II when Anikin's mom dies and he gets mad and wipes out all of the Tuskin Raiders. It's a pivotal scene but the aftermath isn't very well written or acted. Hayden Christensen just looks like a punk kid who pouting and fuming for getting grounded for a month. When an pivitoal tragedy occurs on a stakeout early in Insomnia it is truly a wildcard that still has me wondering if it was a mistake or was it intentional. Pacino looks like the weight of the world is on his shoulders and his lack of sleep(6 days by movie end; kinda like the week before the shipping deadline
:p ) isn't helping. Pacino is great in the film but man he looks so bad you think it's make up, like the poor guy never slept a day in his life! Is it really like that in Alaska ( scratch that off of my future vacations list).
It also features the best performance from Robin Williams in a long time(probably since Good Will Hunting). He's creepy and sneaky(though I heard he has an indy film comming out called One Hour Photo where he's outright scary as a stalker photo delveloper) at least he's not trying to force you to LOVE ME! LOVE ME! LOVE ME! by force feeding you endless sugar sweet sappyness(I trying to figure which was a bigger career low point: WHAT DREAMS MAY COME or PATCH ADAMS! Agh! I'm having flashbacks...!)
Everybody does a great job in the movie from Hilary Swank as an eager but smart younger cop to Nicky Katt( Harry Senate on BOSTON PUBLIC) as a more moodier veteran cop.
I can't wait to see it again!:cool:

be GLAD. The ending sucked. So Spiderman saves the girl, rescues a bunch a kids, kills the goblin, and Harry swears that Spiderman will pay for what he's done. That's where it should have ended. What happens after that is just disappointing.
Oh you just wish the sappy ending would have come true ;)

as for all the Star Wars Episodes 7-9... That is never going to happen. That was addressed by George Lucas durring the re-release of 4-6. He said he would do 1-3 but 7-9 was a no. That is where the books [most of which magicaly started to appear at that time] pick-up.

The two Matrix movies are definately on top of my lists but so far nothing has really stuck out this year like last.
I'm really pshyched about Spirited Away comming out on DVD today along with Kiki's Delivery Serivce and Castle in the Sky.
I would love it if the Cowboy Bebop movie came around here but I know better and will probably have to wait for it to come out on video.

Just saw Identity last weekend.
It's about 10 strangers stranded in a storm at a creepy motel all with something to hide. Many of the characters are one-note trapped in a cliche`and the actors perfomances range from layered and excellent (Cusack, as always) to getting deep into the naunces of the character (McGuinley) to Shrill(Duvall) to basially being a prop (De Mornay) but then the movie throws you for a loop and you find outwhat it's all about.
Because it reveals it's hand so early it makes the rest of the film rather anti-cliamtic but it is fascinating to watch it all play out.
I do fear that if this movie has any kind of box office there will be an unfortunate direct-to-video sequel that will diminish all the good things this movie has going for it.
I give it a B.

Well... I saw a preview of Matrix: Reloaded earlier this week, and all I can say is... I'm psyched. I'm a little worried that it won't live up to my expectations... but if it's as good as it looks like it could be, it'll be awesome.

I figured I might as well take advantage of a thread that already exists, rather than have someone complain that there already exist a bunch about exactly this.
Anyway, I was just looking around, and found this (http://pdl.warnerbros.com/harrypotter/us/med/azkaban/). Trailers, in various file formats, for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I am very much liking what I've seen, and very much looking forward to seeing it.
Other movies of note are Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and The Polar Express. (I grew up with that book. Heavy sentimental value.)

This year's wanna see bad movie of the year is Hellboy (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/hellboy/index.html).The trailer looks cool. I love the comic. But the comic is actually more X-files than X-Men and I'm afraid being a major studio picture that they want it the other way around. Immitation is the sincerest form of profitbility in Hollywood.

Anyhow, I hate movie theaters myself. So what I am waiting for would be DVDs. That being said, I'm still waiting for the Matrix Revolutions and Return of the King. We also have a Punisher flick due out at the end of the year, and Spiderman 2 (wow, we talked about 1 coming out at the beginning of this thread...). When I think of more, I'll post them.

One movie that is in production right now (release date, other than sometime in 2004/2005 not announced the last time I checked) that I am really looking forward to is Life of Pi. And in September the filming of Red Dwarf, the movie will begin. Sigh. I think I'm going to be waiting for quite a while for these...

Just got back from seeing Nascar 3D: The Imax Experience (http://www.imax.com/films/now_playing/nascar.html). Of all the professional sports out there I'd say racing is the most similar to FIRST. They even pointed out that engineers are what really drive the teams, not the sterotypical grease monkey (a future carrer FIRST could lead to).
The movie is very infromative and LOUD(you can actually feel the sound comming out of those IMAX speakers) and when you veiw racing on the track it is exhilarting. I haven 't seen many IMAX films (saw the Two Towers in the IMAX theater and was dissapointed that they basically ran it in standard fromat so all you really had was the great sound. I was equally dissapointed Fantasia 2000 wasn't in 3D) but I can readily say this is the best one I have seen. A.

Firefly! Well, it'll be titled Serenity, but it's all good. It just got the green light from Universal. It's set for a June 2005 release with a budget of $35,000,000. That will get me into a theater.
Also, Hellboy, Punisher, I think there's also a Fantastic 4 and a Captain America movie in the works (as you can tell, I like Marvel). And I know we're talking deep into 2005 by now, but there's also X3. Plus, The Matrix: Revolutions is due out on DVD soon, and when the extended version of Return of the King is out, I'll be nabbing hat. But still, the only way you'll get me into a theater is to see Serenity.

On the whole, I thought it was a pretty good movie as far as IMAX movies go, but it wasn't really all that amazing. As with other movies, the aerial photography is where IMAX really shines.
IMAX films are shot in the same aspect ratio as television, not feature films. However, all feature length films that are shown in IMAX undergo a process for adapting them to the larger film format so they do not lose quality as the image is scaled up.
In the future, expect Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to open in IMAX two weeks after its debut in traditional theaters this summer.

On the whole, I thought it was a pretty good movie as far as IMAX movies go, but it wasn't really all that amazing. As with other movies, the aerial photography is where IMAX really shines.
IMAX films are shot in the same aspect ratio as television, not feature films. However, all feature length films that are shown in IMAX undergo a process for adapting them to the larger film format so they do not lose quality as the image is scaled up.
In the future, expect Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to open in IMAX two weeks after its debut in traditional theaters this summer.
My favorite Imax movie so far is Everest. I had just finished reading Into Thin Air a couple of weeks before I saw it, which made the movie all the more intense. The only other two I really remember much about is one about roller coasters and another one about storm chasers.

I remember that's how it was when I played the video game Silent Hill on PS1 the first time I played it.
That freaked me out. :D

To me Kill Bill was like eating a can of frosting. Fun at first but you get sick of it after a while and eventually you get a stomach ache from the whole thing. There were absolutely cool momnets but it's art for art sake. There's no purpose behind the whole thing. It's talking loud and saying nothing. That being said I'll still see Vol. 2. :rolleyes:

That's the point.
It's a very stylized movie aimed at pleasing the audience by its numerous moments of pure-Tarantino film-making (though yes, I got a bit tired of all the limbs). The execution of the movie was awesome. I think Tarantino did exactly what he planned to do. And it's worked out just fine. The 2nd volume is supposed to be better, or so I heard from E&R's early preview.

Well witht he end of the season and with the end of my quarter at RIT I actually had time to catch up with my moviegoing (too late to see The Tripplettes of Bellville unfotunately :( ). I saw:
Van Helsing I saw less corn and cheese in the snack bar!
The Passion of the Christ I was very dissapionted by this film. It said little about his Christian walk and was basically two hours of brutality. Nicely done but ultimately pointless. The book was better.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 A definate improvement on the first film. It actually improved the first film!
The Day After Tomorrow I was surprised by this one. In spite of it's cliches and preachiness I actually enjoyed it(watching LA get eaten up by a plauge of Tornadoes definately helped)
Shrek 2 Beautiful animation and great laughs made for a wonderful moviegoing experience.
So what's next?

Well it's 2005. A new year and withit alot of new films.
My top five from last year was....
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A clever mind blowing head trip with great perfromances all around and even quite touching and makes you think about some interesting questions afterward.
2. The Incredibles
Pixar just can never do wrong (though I surely wasn't feeling that short film Boundin' shown before the film. And the preview to Cars plain sucked). I could watch the Incredibles a hundred times. It's just so fun.
3. Colleteral
Cruise and Fox are fascinating to watch in this cat and mouse game. Tense involving story.
4. Spider Man 2
Best non-animated Superhero movie ever made (see above). Not only great action but great emotional storytelling.
5. The Bourne Supremacy
A worthy sucessor to the Bourne Identity in spite of the obnoxious shaky camera movement.
So what has piqued my interest this year?
Well obviously the last Star Wars film has my attention in spite of the fact that the last two films were major disappiontments and there's anotehr Harry Potter film in the fall. There's also an Appleseed (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10004834-appleseed/) movie out. I certainly hope it's better than the last adaptation. It's one of my favorite comics.
I never read Hellblazer but that won't stop me from seeing Constantine (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/constantine/) which looks like a cross between the Matrix and Hellboy. Could be cool.
Well Elektra (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/elektra/)
certainly looks interesting but then so did Blade Trinity and I'm regretting that.
Robots (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/robots/) actually comes across as rather obnoxious in the previews but I am a total sucker for animation so I'll hold out hope for it.
A Sound of Thunder (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sound_of_thunder/) isn't getting alot of hype but it could prove a sleeper. It could also make a quick exit.
Sin City (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sin_city/) just looks plain hot! Just look at the preview. I loved the comic and I'm hoping the movie will do it justice.
I'm holding out hope that Christopher Nolan can restore some dignity to the Batman franchise with Batman Begins (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/batman_begins/) his last two movies Memento and Insomnia are two of my favorites.
War of the Worlds (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/war_of_the_worlds/) . Spielberg. Cruise. 'Nuff said!
There's not much about the Fantastic Four (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fantastic_four/) so far but Marvel has done a pretty good job with their movies recently so there is hope.
Tim Burton tackling the remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocalate Factory (here called Charlie and the Choclate Factory (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/charlie_and_the_chocolate_factory/) ) with Johnny Depp. Burton can be hit or miss but I am intrigued.
Terry Gilliam is one of the most visully gifted directors around and he hasn't been around much recently so I want to see if he hasn't lost his touch with The Brothers Grimm. (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/brothers_grimm/)
Disney is trying their hand at computer animation with Chicken Little (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/chicken_little/) . The Preview was very funny.
Another computer animated possiblity is Madagascar (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/madagascar/) . The preview looked fun.
Finally! There's going to be a Wallace and Grommit movie (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wallace_and_gromit_movie_curse_of_the_wererabbit/) . It's about time!
Supposedly there's going to be a Wathcmen movie (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/watchmen/) . Hollywood hasn't had a good track record with Alan Moore (The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen stunk much and From Hell was just OK). I need more info before I decide to commit bucks but I am interested so far.
It's looking like a good year is on tap.

I don't think I saw very many movies in 2004, as far as I remember, but I'll still drop some opinions into this thread.
I completely agree that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was one of the best movies of the year. The concept was very original, and the movie was amazingly executed. I was finally and happilly impressed by Charlie Kaufman in this one, being as I didn't care for both Being John Malcovich and Adaptation. Also, this is the movie that makes me think highly of Jim Carrey as an actor (it's so easy for him to do physical or gimmicky comedy, and he's good at it, but real acting is different (cf. The Truman Show)). I really loved this movie. Mindjob / lovestory. Highly recommended.
Another favorite of 2004 was Closer. Yeah, yeah, Natalie Portman in a g-string, whatever. Beyond that, it's a story of relationships between four troubled and troubling people. The insecurities and other such personality flaws of each character begin as miniscule cuts, but are eventually torn open, spewing jealousy and spite all over the audience. All in all, even though it doesn't sound like it would be, it was one of the most interesting and moving movies of the year, in my opinion.
On the lighter side, there was Finding Neverland. I love Johnny Depp (who doesn't?), and his choice to take the role of Barrie only raises my opinion of him. I'm ashamed to say I knew practically nothing of Barrie before seeing this movie, and I never thought very highly of Peter Pan, but I'm very glad I saw this movie. It's a unique story, and worth knowing, along with being a well-crafted movie.
The Chronicles of Riddick gets an honorable mention. :p

I have to agree about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The trailer has some nice visuals and Johnny Depp in one of the most eerie shots I've ever seen in a movie. I loved the original (but I haven't read the book since primary school), and I'm looking forward to this version, despite my dislike of Tim Burton. I'll admit that he's a visionary artist, and he's consistent in his work, but I just don't like his art. Still, I'm definitely seeing this in theaters.
About Batman Begins and The Watchmen, I am very interested in both of these movies. However, when they were first announced, Darren Aronofsky was attached to both of them as director, but has since pulled out of both. I love both Pi and Requiem for a Dream, and I have enormous respect for Aronofsky's style, so I was incredibly excited when these two movies were announced with him attached, and disappointed when I learned he'd left. David Hayter (writer for X-Men and X2, and the voice of Solid Snake) is writing The Watchmen (and Iron Man and The Black Widow movies due in 2006).
About movies' directors being moved to my dismay, there's the story of Terry Gilliam (The Brothers Grimm, as mentioned above) being attached to direct the movie of Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I was disappointed when I heard this movie was scrapped.
And finally, there's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! The unknown director has me slightly worried, and the cast has me a little more worried (Mos Def as Ford? Hmm), but I'm still definitely seeing this movie. How could any reasonable geek not?
P.S.
I'm not seeing Episode 3 unless I hear, post-release, that it's as good as Episodes 4 through 6 (highly unlikely). The real George Lucas should be spinning in his grave, because I'm sure he's dead, and the man we know as George Lucas is an evil imposter.

I went suprisingly light on movie DVD's this year. I avoided the Punnisher. Haven't seen Hellboy, but I may nab that. I will get The Incredibles though. Picked up Return of the King (extended version) and Spiderman 2 for Christmas. Have Buffy, Angel, and 24 (all season 1) and I Robot on order. Got Firefly last X-mas, but I'm adding it as my most watched DVDs last year. Matrix Revolutions wasn't bad either (okay, I hated the ending).
This year: we still have Serenity (which was pushed back to avoid conflict with Revenge of the Sith; speaking of which, Episode 3 will inhale audibly, but still draw in massive crowds). Still no clue on the time scale of Fantastic 4 and Captain America, but we're looking late 2005-early 2006 (IMDB has F4 as mid-2005, but I don't see that happening). X3 doesn't have a director yet (come on, Joss Whedon!), so that may not see the light of day until 2006. On a lighter note, Electra comes out in a week (and it's supposed to have the trailer for Serenity, no clue if Serenity being pushed back affects that). That's another DVD I'll be getting, if only because I'm an Alias fan (and I am one of the few who didn't mind Daredevil).
That's it off the top of my head. I know I've probably forgotten a handful of movies I'd be interested in, but that's what the edit feature is for.

I'm trying to avoid reading much about it as I want to be completely involved in the movie rather than waiting for this or that part I read about in a review.
The ending, of course, is going to be the hardest part to make work here -- everyone knows how the novel ends. If Spielberg stays true to the novel, there's no suspense because we all know what happens, but if he tries to change things, he takes on the immense task of doing better than Wells himself and that's a big job to tackle.

The movie I am looking forward to the most is DaVinci code, It is based on a best selling book, Directed by Ron Howard and stars tom Hanks, I can not see how this movie could be anything less than great.
I'm looking forward to that new america-spoofing movie, can't remember what it's called though :confused:
