I love the wood gusseting its all correct.
Rock on pour more gas in the tank.

There's just something that looks very right about that engine on there.
I have got to get my gokart done.

A generator, you rookies really are innovators.
My suggestion is try to disguise it better. Put flashing lights on it, or take off the label. When teams ask you why you're putting gas into your robot, just remind them that they had better get back and refill the magic smoke in their robot too!
Um, actually that looks like an awesome robot. Really solid design, right from 6 wheels up to the nice ball collector. I'm not quite sure how the balls get to the shooter, but I think it has something to do with that generator ;).
lol guys that is very entertaining, especially at this hour

HEY WAIT A SECOND, I know I have seen that design for the lift somewhere before….but where???? I GOT IT, looks just like our robot!

Except ours is metal, yours is wood. I would hate to see how much overweight you all are, considering that in that picture we weighed somewhere around 145 lbs not including batt. With everything now we are right around 118lbs.
Looks good, good luck to ya!

Actually, I believe it would be as long as you had no gas in it and you could find a vendor that sells it for less than $400.

Why do the utes in FIRST all seem to assume that (Wood == Heavy)? This is not true. One of these years I swear I'm going to build a robot that is all wood except for the essential mechanical bits. Pound for pound, cvg Douglas fir, for example, is stiffer than aluminum, and has better strength in compression and sheer. Aluminum wins for better impact resistance, and possibly strength in tension. The mistake would be to make a wooden robot just like you would make an aluminum one. The design and building method has to be tailored to the strengths of the material you choose.

this is exactly right. The only concern I would have would be the contact aspect, as I don't know how well wood would stand up. Overall, wood is an excellent building material (hey, they build houses out of it) and is often lighter than metal or plastic. You can't form it very easily though, which makes certain designs harder

Dude, I didn’t say anything about the wood being heavy, people need to lighten up a little around here. I know wood can be lighter; I have used it myself for many projects, like our automated couch. I was referring to the weight because there is a B&S engine on the bot….

Crud....I think we were missing something from our kit of parts.

i got an idea put that in next years kit and make the field something like 100 yards and make them play football like thier on caffine pills :p
i don't know about weight, but the wood stood up very well to impact at the manchester regional. didn't break at all and we were pushing 3 robots away from the ramp at once at one point. HURRAY FOR ROOKIE POWER!!! :D
