Hey,

Team 830 actually recently obtained sponsorship from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. The mentors are, for the most part, U of M undergrads, grads, and alumni (we have a student organization for FIRST mentoring called UMentorFIRST). The team doesn't use the university's facilities; however, we hope that this may change with growing involvement from U of M.

Anyway, although build season has come and gone, it's never too late to get sponsorship. PM or IM me if you would like help with your proposal.

:)

Four rookie teams in Baltimore City this year and three were started with the help of Morgan State University. Morgan State ended up helping all four, provided student engineering mentors, adminstrative help, funding help, and a summer camp is in the works. We couldn't have done it without them and behalf of Team 1748, 1893, 1894 and 1904, thanks!

Team 612 has a unique partnership with George Mason University. The team is part of a class in Fairfax County's Chantilly Academy, connected to Chantilly High School. The academy is for science and technology classes and acts as a magnet school- students from surrounding schools commute to the academy to take science classes. One such class is "Robotics," and 6 weeks of the class consists of FIRST and only FIRST. This Robotics class, as well as a few others in the academy, such as Engineering Systems (systems engineering), Engineering Physics, and (next year) Electronics are accredited by GMU. These are in fact the only classes in Fairfax County to be accredited by a university (except for AP classes).

So no, we are not supported by a university in terms of mentors, money, or facilities, but we are affiliated with a university and supported in terms of college credit.

Miami University has been working with our team for 6 years. Each year we get two to four university students who are completing their BS in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology Degrees. They must be enrolled in the Senior Design Course and be approved by us (the teachers / mentors) Miami provides a $1000 project support contribution to the team from the ENT division. The students work as transitional mentors to the high schoolers and designers and technicians for the team.
This year (2006) is a special year for us as two students from Miami were our 2002 high school drivers when we were National Semifinalists as team #144, then.
