I'm just curious, who here on the Chief Delphi Forums likes 'Anime'? (Anime is commonly known as Japanese Animations or English Animations). If anybody responds to this thread, tell me which ones you like. Thanks! - Raul
Anime is great! I haven't watched much of late, cause well, i don't have time... but there's an anime club at a local university that opens up a theatre every once and a while and plays anime for a nite... I've never had the time to go :( . Meh, I love Maccross or however it's spelled.... I haven't seen many others I'm really into yet, meh.

The only thing I don't like is there is only 26 episodes. I'm holding out for the COWBOY BEBOP film KNOCKIN' ON HEAVENS DOOR to get released. Of course I'm still waiting for WARRIORS OF THE WIND aka NAUSICA: VALLEY OF THE WIND to come out on DVD.

What about Princess Mononoke and Vampire Hunter D, are they considered Anime? I like those. Of course, three of my favorite animated movies (though probably not considered Anime) are Wizards (1977, can't believe it got a PG rating) and Allegro Non Troppo (1976 not 100% animated, spoof on Fantasia) and The Last Unicorn (1982).

I'm actually a pretty big anime fan. My current favorite is Evangelion, and I just got done watching it through. Both Vampire Hunter D movies were pretty good. I personally liked Bloodlust better then the origional. Anyhow, a couple other series/movies I like... Akira, Ghost in a Shell, any of the Gundam series (but I like X and 0083 the best) Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star (the unedited version is sooo much better then the version Cartoon Network ran) umm... I know there's more, I just can't think right now.
But as for Anime being the worst... eh, I dunno about that. I think there's some sort of Anime out there that will appeal to everyone. Drama, horror, sci-fi... you name it and there's an anime out there.

God, I love the stuff. My favorites include Urusei Yatsura, Battle Angel, Mario-M66, and Riding Bean. I tend to like the more adult themed shows though (not sexual, just meant for a more mature audience i.e. Cowboy Bepop as opposed to Digimon and Hello Kitty). Has anyone seen Lain? I hear its REALLY good.

Wow! I'm glad to see at least some are interested in Anime. Some of my favorites (in no particular order) are -
Dragonball Z
Dragonball
Dragonball GT (Eh, it's okay..)
Cowboy Bebop
AKIRA (BEST anime movie of ALL time)
Outlaw Star
Blue Gender (Very cool if you're into the Sci-fi kinda stuff)
Jin-Roh (This movie.. I didn't get.. but it was cool)
Any Gundam Series (I liked Wing the best, Endless Waltz is a great movie)
Right now my favorite would probably have to be Cowboy Bebop.. I'm hooked on it... I'd probably own the entire series (not very long...) if it didn't cost thirty bloody dollars per DVD! It's madness... but you get what you pay for ^o^
Oh yeah I almost forgot... Any MST3K Fans out there too??
"See you in Space, Cowboy"
Oh I almost forgot, i loved Visions of Escaflowne(sp?) that was great! Anywayz, i have lotsa work to do *sigh*

LAIN!!!!!!!!! :D Yes it is very good, but rather confusing the first time you watch it. It's one of those animes that makes you think and then you have to watch it again and think some more. But it's worth watching over and over again. It's definatly one of my favs.
The only show that i like that they play on TV is Gundam Wing. That the first anime show that i acutally watched and liked and thus got me addicted. After watching the entire series on Cartoon Newtwork I bought the Gundam 0083 series and that was the start of my anime collection.
As far as other animes go: Princess Mononoke is my fav movie, I love Shamanic Princess, Key the Metal Idol, Nadesico, Escaflowne, and a few others that I just can't remember at the moment but i will later on. :)

All the animes by Studio Ghibli are by far the ones I like the most, that include Laputa: castle in the sky, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, My neighbor totoro, Kiki's delivery service, Spirit away, and of course Princess mononoke.
I got a set of 6 DVD's that include 12 of thier anime ^^.
Great Teacher Onizuka is hilarious too.
Anime is the best!!!
I love Dragonball Z, Outlaw Star, and G-Gundam!:D

Koko Ed: about Cowboy Bebop being only 26 episodes... the movies i like are 2 hrs long if i'm lucky. 26 episodes of genious is a bonanza!

I love Anime my self. Princess mononoke for starters. Gundam Wing (I know I know- but I still like it). Cowboy Bebop, Karu Kame(sp?) Princess Nine, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Zone of the Enders, slayers, Sailor Moon (yes I said admit to it!), CardCaptor Sakura, Tri Gun, and way to many more. I'd have to look through alot of DVDs and VHS tapes of mine to post all of the Anime I like. But I'm to lazy.
Oh yeah and to all of you who don't like anime. Get a Life! If you dont like it then don't post on a thread about it. Find somthing more constructive to do with your time.
Oh yeah and if anyof you want to see some of my art (anime, and other) then goto my art gallery at Spider-Punk.deviantart.com (http://www.spider-punk.deviantart.com) which contains mostly original works and a bit of fanart. Thanks.

I can't call myself a connoisseur of anime, but I can really appreciate it.
Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke, and Akira are all great movies.
I have to say that Lain is one of the coolest series' I have ever watched, along with Cowboy Bebop and a lesser-known (I think) anime named Generator Gawl. What I've seen of Bubblegum Crisis 2040, Evangelion, and Trigun have been quite cool, as well.

Has anyone else seen Ah! My Goddess! (or Aa! Megami-Sama)? It's a five-episode OVA, plus a movie. The episodes start funny, then get quite serious, and the movie is sublime. I love all of it.
Another good OVA is Read Or Die, which is fairly recent, and it's only three eps, but it looks pretty, has an . . . INteresting plot, and nice action sequences.
Other than that, I'm a fairly mainstream CN otaku: Cowboy Bebop (Great movie!), Outlaw Star, .hack//sign, Visions of Escaflowne (Not Cartoon Network, but of a similar style), and Evangelion.
For the sake of the mods, I will not discuss hentai. :yikes:

woa cool the anime thread has people posting on it again...
I've recently bought the first DVD of Trigun... very cool, and it's funny to boot. And Dragonball GT isn't as bad as I once thought.. it's growing on me.
In other news aka the world of Manga, I've recently discovered "One Piece"... it's great , I suggest checking that out too. They're now selling the Shonen Jump in America now... obviously it's nothing compared to Japan's, but I mean it's pretty good they have a lot of hard to find stuff in there for us Americans...

Well... Dragonball isn't complicated... I dunno how you could get lost on that.. but DBZ does get kinda complicated with all the power and such. Anyways, I prefer Dragonball because it goes more into the daily lives of people... I like how Toriyama does that, I mean he does stuff with fights but he also shows the characters just chilling or eating or sleeping and stuff.

Hey man I never said I got lost or confused. Oh no, to the contrary.
I dislike the Dragon Ball series for a few reasons. First and foremost, the art is terrible! I cannot stand his work. Second, the plot. Every story in the series is the same. It starts off with every thing peaceful then a new threat comes about. Next you hear the story, which is usually boring or stupid. Then you finally get to the fight scene(s), most likely, after some new vigorous not to mention impossible, training. Then after nearly 20 episodes of charging big blast attacks, and terrible dialog, the fight ends.
I said that the series was lost on me, meaning that I don’t care for it.
And like I said I used to like it when I was younger (6th grade). But then I grew up a little.
--
If the previous offended any one, in anyway, I apologize. :D
I was simply voicing my opinion, and explaining previous comments.
--
If you want to see a fairly good series with the character’s living a nearly everyday life, but still with some good action, and humor, I suggest Tenchi Muyo.
PS
Another really good Anime is Guyver.

Tenchio Myuo! I loved it great series all the Tenchi series are awesome :D I just can't get that Toriyama out of me though...
yeah it's so ridiculous...all that straining and reaching new power levels and crap...theres no LIMIT to these guys. I also like Lupin III.
Anyone here familiar with the Chobit series of comic books? I just read the first one...wow that's interesting. Has the second one been released yet?

Gotta love the fight scenes in DBZ where they power up and the "camera" shifts so you see one guy powering up and yelling then another then the first then the other and so on for about half the episode.
I've been reading the manga for Chobits and i think it's cool. and as far as i know they are on book 3 of the graphic novels.
Metropolis is a good movie, that is if you like the whole robot/human type stuff like Armitage.
the chobits manga is very good along with the anime, however i think that DBZ kinda exposes people to an anime thats not very good...thus they make the broad statement that anime sucks. just a personal gripe i guess..

Yeah Tenchi is great.

Yeah, And that's not even the half of it.
Anyone here familiar with the Chobit series of comic books?
Oo! Oo! I have! LoL. I think the Manga is awesome. I've read half of the first one and looked through the other two. And I've seen the Chobits anime. Great stuff. :D
DBZ kinda exposes people to an anime thats not very good...thus they make the broad statement that anime sucks.
Yes it does. When I draw somthing in class usually a doodle unless I'm in art, I always get "That looks like those Chinese Dragon Ball cartoon." I usually say somthing like "No no, First, it's Japanese. Second, Dragon Ball Z is terrible, I wouldn't want to think I draw that bad." I also get alot of "Digimon 'peoples'" whcih doesn't bother me as much. Digimon may be for kids but the style isn't that bad. Opposed to say, Dragon Ball.
But now a'days I don't have to do much explaining. More and more people are learning about what Anime is.
--
"It's in Anime style. But it's original..."
"Really?"
"Yes.. Now go away."
Even though I'm relatively new to anime (only been watching for a year or so), i'm already addicted. Favorites include, Neon Genesis Evangelion (series is great, movies are incredible), Lain, Nadesico, Chobits, haven't seen Akira yet, but it's on my list to see, Revolutionary Girl: Utena (interesting storyline), Cowboy Bebop is pretty good, Ranma 1/2 (also, interesting storyline), Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind, X/1999, basically anything CLAMP or Gainex. I've also aquired the Evangelion n64 game, and man is it sweet. Doesn't matter if I don't know Japanese, it's a great game, and if you know the series, you can play the game =D.
I also agree that most mainstream/americanized anime isn't all that great. Most authentic Japanese anime will deal with issues of humanity, and ultimately teach some sort of lesson on a higher level of thinking, whereas Americanized shows are mere violence and kick-butt loosely coupled to a simplistic storyline. Watching real anime requires actual thinking :-D

Yu Yu Hakasho-yep, correct spelling ( on cartoon network @ 6:00-6:30, the same time as the news)
The guy with the Tetsaiga is Inu Yasha-Another great production
Outlaw Star-I second the motion a second time.
The only problem with it is that it's either on at:
A) A time when the news is on (parents)
OR
B) Mon.-Thurs. 11:00-2:00 (I've got 2 dogs, kinda hard to sneak downstairs to the TV)
Another good one is the second Gundam series, (0083?), or Gundam Wing.

Wow man. You just described most of my Favorite Anime series up there. Anyone heard of Project Ako? It's fun to watch. Not that great but fun. It was the first Anime movie I ever saw. I think I was 10.
About the second part. True most americanized Anime is nothing but violent and isn't true you have to give some series credit. They did a pretty fair job with the Gundam Series. I thought Wing was good as far as 'Americanized' anime goes. But most Anime like you said is killed by stations like Cartoon Network, and the WB.
The Action Chanell plays some pretty good movies...
Not all Anime (even Jap) requires thinking. For instance: Hentai. Need I say more.
Okay End of that.
So once again has anyone seen Project Ako (might be Ako Project)?

I really like Lupin III, because it's fairly intelligent, for a comedy show. Also, I'm surprised and shocked that I didn't mention Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team. The artwork and characterization are at the top of my list. In fact, I have too much respect for the series to consider downloading it. I already have some .hack//sign, all of AMG, and 2/3 of Read or Die.
Just out of curiosity, what do you people think of Dai-Guard?

Just because a show was good for a time doesn't mean it needs to be watched today for any reasons other than nostalgia or historic value. Seriously, when was the last time you saw "Gone With the Wind"? And for that matter, lets look at a couple contemporaries (two really good ones of the time): Gundam 08th MS Team and Lupin III. These two animes are immeasurably better in both animation and story quality, and both were made before 1987. So I ask you: why are inferior animes getting the limelight? Just a thought.

Subbed.
Dubtitled films are infectedwith bad acting.
Subbed... Dubbed usually leaves the feeling out. Watching Eva dubbed on DVD was almost painful. Things just didn't sound as they should.
i'm a huge anime fan... currently i have about 125gigs worth, and about 13 dvd's...
my favs are (not in any order):
ah! my goddess
hand maid may
chobits

I love Metropolis!! It was the first true anime that I have seen and I thought it was cool. I did think that it was just a modern version of the classic silen movie of the same name and was mistaken, but it was cool none the less.
As for Dragonball and the rest, the fight scene animation is truely awful. The fact that they have trailing lines behind a character during movement is really annoying. The only place that there is a need for that is in printed comics to show movement. Just my 2cents.

Not really; there's a lot more in the way of thought in Animes. Of course, some gaming never hurts. While the FF plots are just as intricate and nearly as long as most animes, the brain isn't worked quite so much in the philosophy area.

Yay! Anime!! This makes me happy!!
Okaya here are the ones I like, and being a girl, they tend to be more... romantic than mecha.
Marmalade Boy (my absolute fav)
Kare Kano aka His and Her Circumstances
Sailor Moon (only subbed... otherwise it sucks)
Chobits (seen it, it's awesome!)
Lain
Furi Kuri
Trigun
Gate Keepers 21
Real Bout High School
Going to watch:
Now and then, Here and there
Noir
Tokyo Mew Mew
I've seen more. I can't remember all of it.
But, I've got a good question, does anyone here listen to japanese pop/rock (aka J-rock/j-pop)

is that samuri x?? i love it. my backround is fushigi yugi characters. what's your guys'?
Furi Kuri
I have to say I saw that show once and I never watched it again. I usually prefer something that has a plotline that you can understand.
I love a lot of the anime shows that came on, used to like DBZ, but as I got older, and saw more the the series...they became repetitive...big invincible bad guy comes in, says he's gonna kill the entire world, Goku comes up, fights him for a little bit, goes super sayen <sp> charges a spirit bomb, the end, next series and it starts over...
My favorite kinda animes...theres a fairly good list, and don't get angry, I only see stuff that comes on TV and is already "Americanized". I love the Cowboy Bebop series, its just good 'ol entertainment there! And Trigun..I like, but I missed one episode and I'm confused (theres another thing about anime shows...) My big favs are the Gundam Series. I saw some of the first series (the one with Amuro and the RX-78) but, artwork doesn't look too wonderful and takes away from the entire series. My favorites are 08th MS, I just love the military Mobile Suit Warfare (and the Gouf...gotta love the Gouf), and Gundam Wing, which I just thought was an awesome series. I would not mind seeing Gundam X & Zeta Gundam...maybe they can "Americanize" (aka. censor each episode until a 3 year old could take a nap through one) those too...
Erm, anyone wanna give me an english copy of Evangelion: Death and Rebirth? I tried watching one version that was in Japanese, but had English captions, I could not follow it. But I did enjoy the movie...sorta kinda...Anywhoo, theres my thoughts on things...

My favorite movies:
Grave of the Fireflies
Akira (fudged up at the end, though)
Jin-Roh (Mmm..MG42s, MP40s...)
I don't really like some anime, crap about ninjas, and big, impractical robots really doesn't appeal to me.
But there are other things out there that are yet to be discovered...

Cardcaptor Sakura
UC Gundam
Evangelion
That's where the gravy is at.

Princess Mononoke is a great movie as is Spirited Away (poster hanging in our animation area). Even Warriors of the Wind (the so-called "butchered version of Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind. Til it comes out on DVD I' happy to own it!).Miyazaki rules!!!

Yeah, anime is great. One of my favorites is Ranma1/2. And I totally agree that there is an anime for all ages and types (including perverts:))

A lot of anime has perverted stuff in it. Even Yugioh.:)

Really? Where?
Really? Where?
Read the comic. It is unedited. The one thing that amazed me was a preverted baby that stuffed it's face in Tea's chest. Go to your local Waldbaums or Walmart and pick up Shohen Jump. That contains five comics and they are generally all good comics.

I will confirm, this Americanized version of the Shonen Jump is not half bad... it has Sandman and the best manga of all time - One Piece. Yu Yu Hakusho isn't bad either. It just kinda makes me mad that they used the title "Shonen Jump" from the original title in Japan, which isn't really anything like this American book o' Manga.

I've never actually gotten into manga/comics. The whole style that they do them in is just rather annoying to me. I'd rather sit down with a good book. I'm not saying that comics are horrible, it's just that they just aren't for me. :(

Agreed. Manga/comics are good to look at once in a while, but I really would like nice-hard core words more than once a page...

In addition to the previous, reading from right to left is cool.
That is all :]

Yes, reading from right to left does make things interesting. I did pick up a manga book once and I had previously thought myself good a reading comic books even though I don't read them much. But when I found out that they did it japanese style (right to left) I was often confused. :yikes: Oh well.

Originally I was too. I read a DBZ manga a few years ago from left to right and when I got about a fourth of the way through I noticed I was going backwards.
But why stop a good thing. :D
I came home from a late night of animating at the site and was powering down to get ready for bed when I came across this show on the public access channel called Read or Die (http://cupped-expressions.net/rod/die/) . It was a very cool looking show (dumb title though). I put it up there with Cowboy Bebop.

Woo, old post back up.
I like manga/anime just as much as any good book.
In speaking of Shonen Jump, I like it for a few of the manga, Naruto, Shaman King, and Hikaru No Go. One Piece, and Yu Yu Hakasho aren't bad. But the rest are just crappy. Naruto is awesome, over the rest. It's awesome, I'd rather watch/read Naruto or Cowboy Bebop over most anime.
Time to test your knowledge. Who's heard of the following anime/manga:
Battle Royal, and Hell Sing. You get a cookie if you have.

I was curious about if the people here would like to join an anime forum. The one I'm speaking of is fairly new and still looking for members. If you are interested, let me know. :]

I like Azumanga Daioh and Galaxy Angel. And to the person who asked if there were any MST3K fans, I am one...sort of.

Holy necroposting, Batman! :p
I'm usually the first one to admit he hates anime (Avatar notwithstanding, though I don't consider that true anime). That being said, I do enjoy the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai shows. Same thing really, except live action.

I laughed when I saw this, one of the first threads I ever made I think.
It's funny how your tastes can change in five years... though I will say, I did get into that Avatar show from Nickelodeon, highly recommend it. But I don't have much time for Anime anymore, school and robotics and all your other interests begin to take precedence.

No, Eddie. I will have to contend that I am the first person to say he dislikes anime, very much. Most foreign cartoons/shows annoy the crap out of me. Drawings that look like they've been created by someone with a mix of an overdose of e and sugar definitely count among the highest of my annoyances. No offense to those that like the stuff, this is just my opinion.

You also have to keep in mind that it's originating from a completely different culture. I've studied Japanese culture in my spare time every now and then, and their culture is worlds apart from ours. It only makes sense that their cartoons would be too. Same goes with anything imported from China, Korea, etc. It works over there, but you really have to be into it for it to work for you over here. As you can tell, I myself am really not into anime, but I do enjoy the modern cowboys in insect-inspired armor saving the world one kaijin at a time. :D

I'm into some anime. Mostly Initial D (although the manga is far past the anime now) and I kinda like Naruto but I'm not a crazy fan like most people on my team.
Unfortunately I have to watch ID subbed because Tokyopop ruined the dub by replacing the music :( I usually watch anime dubbed but if the dub is poorly done then I'll watch it subbed. I do hate how some dubs leave out certain Japanese terms and honorifics though, especially if they are important to know in order to watch the anime...
I hate how some anime fans think "all dubs are bad" because they obviously haven't seen some series' dubs. Slayers for example has an EXCELLENT dub.

I'm just curious, who here on the Chief Delphi Forums likes 'Anime'? (Anime is commonly known as Japanese Animations or English Animations). If anybody responds to this thread, tell me which ones you like. Thanks! - Raul
Totally Love it! can't get enough of it! (or any other Japanese related things)

Anime is the reason why I used to have a friend who has long hair that he never washes...
We don't talk anymore... at all.
Anime is basically the only thing thats in my queue on Netflix. I like me some good Full Metal, Akira, Trigun, anything made by Hayao Miyazaki(yes that is spelled right),and much more.
I've been getting into Black Lagoon recently.
