Last night, we noticed that one of our practice batteries had died and would no longer take a charge. Since I know that simply tossing the battery into the trash is not a viable or safe option, I was wondering what other teams have done to dispose of their batteries after they die.

It has a large, happy recycling symbol on it, but how and where can these be recycled?

bring it to a walmart or pepboys or another automotice part store and see if they will discard it for you, if not i think it can goto a recycling center

Elise,
Any retailer who sells lead acid batteries is reguired to recycle batteries. Some may not take a battery if they haven't sold you one, but they should take them.

They are not required to do the service for free though. Expect to pay a small hazardous waste disposal fee ($2-3 should be correct). Just like the fee you pay when you get your oil changed.
