Master code update

Does anyone know if a master code update also updates the code in the OI through the tether?
If not, why does it require you to have the OI and RC tethered together during the update?

I have heard several conflicting reports on this, and would like to know what actually happens. :)

What functions on the OI would actually need updating from time to time? AFAIK, it's a very basic relay system for all your control stuff.. all of the interesting stuff happens on the Master processor inside the RC.

The way I see it, the code inside the OI may get updated from time to time, but I doubt every Master code release actually has to update it.
