Did you wire your 40A loads with 12AWG or 10 this year? We did 10 because the 12 isn't rated for a constant 40A. (All our wiring, including 20A loads, ended up as 10 because I forgot to bring smaller guages home when I wired the board)

I used 10 awg mainly because we didn't have any 12 guage. I used 16 for the 20amp loads, so much easier to work with! I used 10 for everything last year, couldn't find any smaller wire.

10 gauge gives you some performance niceties when dealling with constant load. We used 12 on some stuff last year, and I didn't see a problem with it, but 10 makes me feel better.

We use #10 because .001 ohm/ft. is better than .0017 ohm/ft. When needed for weight or size we would use #12, but not often.

Well we started with 10 AWG but then we weighed the bot and we switched to 12...

On our robot some components like yours require 10 AWG for good/reliable performance. We wired our robot in 10 AWG across the board, that way we only had to buy 10 AWG, and if a connection needs to be replaced, other than the battery, everyone knows that it is 10 AWG.

If we are ever forced to run 12 instead of 10 gauge for purposes of weight, we'd have bigger weight problems than the weight of our wires.

We use 10 Awg fo rthe 409 amp fuses mainly so we dont over heat any of our CIM motors. espically on our drivetrain, b/c we have a ton of power
