So, going with the recent trend (about 2, 3 people ;)), I decided to make myself a signature pic. Who else has a sig pic? Or, rather, who else is planning on making one? c'mon, if you guys can make animations with industry-leading software, I'm sure you can make a little picture :)

Hey! School just got out, maybe I will have 'time' and make one. Perhaps I should become creative first!:)

I finally got around to removing some lines from my signature and putting in a pic. I asked some people which image I should use, but they each chose a different one. Instead of debating over the matter further, I decided to just show a random pic with each view...lets see if it works out.

ooo, I like the random-pic idea. How does a php page return an image, though? Never knew there was code for that.

You can probably just get some banner-rotation code, and use that at HotScripts.com.

Its got to be soemwhere on the internet (your teams website, or your personal website, etc) Then use the vBcode IMG tag to place it in your signature. More info about vBcode is found here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/misc.php?action=bbcode#buttons) , i think.

If you view source for the page, you can see he's using a php script to randomly send an image to the IMG tag.

The source, or the image properties...either way, I sent SuperD my source (all of 10-20 lines) yesterday, but he hasn't looked at it yet (or denied the receipt). It is really simple to do, because PHP is so beautiful.

On second thought, it's a bit large... I'll play around with it and see if i can cut the size down some.

There we go, down to 20k from 41k... had to sacrifice a bit of quality but it's all good, so long as you're not looking at that picture too closely. :)

I see a couple of people from my team in that picture, Isabel :p

Heheh, yup... that was just after we'd won the qualifying round together at KSC and were having our victory run-around-and-hug-and-chant-each-other's-team-number celebration. God that was fun. :D

Yeah! I finally figured it out. Now I just have to go make a creative one!

weedie, I see you're hosting the pic off of geocities... thats a no-go. Geocities did it so that you can't link to geocities-hosted images from anywhere but geocities. You need to find a better host.

Oh, and brandon, how about we get some max dimensions for signature pics? isabel, yours is cool, but it's a bit too big. I mean, when it gets to the point that pics in the signature are larger than posts, well looking at the pic takes away from the post. I know lots of boards have maximum dimmensions, and it works out nice (flashkit.com for example is I believe 40x300 and that works well). Whaddya guys think?

any suggestions on where to find a host for one pic?

If you ask brandon nicely (meaning suck up/kiss his feet/bring him a nice fluffly pillow as he lays his head down to rest), he might be able to help you :)

I remember that :) I'm just out of view of that picture... :(

You know, if this trend keeps up, I sure do feel sorry for those people with dialup...

There's an option to turn off images in signatures.
I'd suggest dial-up people have that off :)

We'll see how it goes. There may need to be a limit.

I'm also pondering changing how the signature works.
I may make it possible to have two columns in your signature. That way you can put a graphic on one side, and people can still do the ever-popular "post my awards" signature on the other side. That'll keep the signature vertical area down a bit.

So your sig could (optionally) look like so:

[ CONTENT1 ] [ CONTENT2 ]

instead of just

[ CONTENT ]

Hmm... I'll work on that.

Also, some good places to host sigs (that allow image linking):

www.yoursighost.com
www.netfirms.com
www.boomspeed.com

I use Netfirms because it's been the most reliable so far. YourSigHost is a bit slow, and Boomspeed conked out for a few days once.

Hmm... the file size is a bit bigger, but it's less intrusive and distorted.

And 300x40 as a limit seems a bit small to me, as long as it's 30k-ish or under and isn't wide enough to mess up the page, it's small enough for me. I'm still on dialup, by the way.

Or maybe I've been desensitized to oboxiously large sigs from other forums. *shrug*

I think mine is the best.
