I am in the beginning stages (and when I say beginning, I mean I started today) of a new project for FIRST and Team 357. I can't reveal too many details, but I am going to start recruiting a group of people to help me with the side things.

Basically, I'm going to need translators who can translate phrases/words into their (assigned) language. I'm working on the english right now (the root of where everything is coming from) I'm going to need translators for these languages: French, Spanish, Portugese, Hebrew, Arabic, German, Italian, and Latin. I may have missed some, but that's the general list.

If you can help me out, let me know.. I'll give more information as more is available..

Remember.. you must be fluent!

Thanks in advanced,
Jonathan Knippschild

I speak Latin. This is the first thing I've ever read with someone needing translating into Latin though. It makes me happy.

I'm fluent in Korean (I was born in Korea and lived there for the first thirteen years of my life). I still read books in Korean and if there is something I can't do, I can ask for help from my parents, so maybe I can help?
My dad is fluent in Japanese because he lived in Tokyo while he was in college, so he 'might' be able to help with Japanese.
Also, my cousins, uncle, and aunt are fluent in Mandarin(? maybe it was Cantonese), English, Korean, and are now living in Czech Republic. I still keep in contact with them so I can ask for a little help.
I also have relatives in Germany, but they are hard to talk to because they are more fluent in German than anything else.
I am also taking Spanish 4 right now, but I think that other people should be able to help more.

PM/e-mail me if you need any help with these languages... (especially Korean).

I am conversationally fluent in spoken Dutch. I can translate written text from Dutch to English easily, but for English to Dutch I need to use a dictionary, as I can't spell at all. So, if needed, consider me available.

Fluent in German, lived there for a while & one of my majors now at Purdue. Also decent in Spanish although I won't usually admit it- it's my dad's 1st language.

Unfortunately, I posted this thread under false pretenses. Me, being the newbie I am, didn't realize that there are no french(are their french canadian teams?), german, etc speaking teams. I'm only going to need languages of FIRST. Thanks to all those who offered though, it's much appreciated :D

Actually, there are many languages in FIRST, especially for FLL.
From the website:
>>80 Teams from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States are invited, as well as coaches, FLL Operational Partners, parents, corporate and local sponsors, international visitors, volunteers and spectators from the Atlanta area. The competition will take place in the Georgia Dome, which seats over 70,000 people.<<

Some of you multi-talented students who are attending the Championship might want to volunteer to help as translators.

Knippschild

Well, this project is designed for FRC, primarily. Perhaps an FLL version will be made eventually.

I don't know what exactly what you intend to translate and the importance of it, but I just want to point out that it is really important to find an Arabic translator. Most of the Israeli teams know English at a pretty high level, but the two Arabic teams that attended the Israeli regional (Hoom El Fachem and Tamra) had a hard time understanding Hebrew and English, and it was very hard to communicate with them.

Just my 0.02$

This project has been restarted.

This is as much as I can say.

We are building software that we hope that FRC teams will use. In order to expand the amount of people that can enjoy the use of this software.

At the time, we are putting the multi-lingual system on semi-hiatus but will start that part after we get the core of the software up.

Let me know if you are interested :)

I have a buddy here who is from Turkey, and he's an engineer at Philip Morris, so we can probably cover Turkish as well. He's an EE, but works in process automation, so he know how things go round and round. Got that language covered!

I don't think there are any FIRST teams from India, we looked for them with FLL in September, but if you find any and need any help with Hindi (or Marathi, which is like it) count me in! I'm taking French in school and can write fluently, but speaking not so well, if it's something you need to write, let me know. :)
