How do teams with cool numbers use their numbers? Like 716 (wrenches) or 1337, etc?

How do teams with cool numbers use their numbers? Like 716 (wrenches) or 1337, etc?I know Team 1337 does not exist, since it was originally given to a German team which didn't make it to competition...

Really, now that I think about it, the only team that really uses their number as part of their identity (moreso than "I'm on 1293") is team 7, better known to most of us as Team 007.

Doesn't FIRST reuse numbers of teams who pull out?
Only on odd occasions. (For example, this season the two schools that made up 64 decided to field separate teams. FIRST retired the 64 number and gave each of the schools new numbers on par with when they joined FIRST. One of the schools was around during the Number Shuffle years, so they received team number 39.)

Don't know why you're worried about making your team name sound cooler, 694 is more than an intimidating number as far as NYC FIRST is concerned and even if that's not good enough for you, like my school (Bronx Science), Stuy is well respected within and outside of the city.

If someone on the founding team had realized that our number was prime they might've done something with that. Unfortunatly, it was only realized by myself and the other animator last year. oh well

I can't believe our team still hasn't come up with an official name in 6 years. We're known either as 555 or Montclair Robotics, but I'm sure someone could come up with something more creative if they put some thought into it. Sadly, nobody has, at least not much. Every year we say "hey, we should make a name" and every year we end up remaining Montclair Robotics (technically we're the Montclair Mounties - the name of our football team).
If anyone has any ideas as to a nice, creative name for 555 I'd love to hear them! (And I'm sure many of you do!)

Hah! "The Timin' ICs!"
My team, 1190, was M^3 our rookie year, SPAM the year after that, and Anonobots from the year after that to now. Basically, my chemistry teacher came up with the name and no one bothered to come up with any other names so we are sticking with it. :D
Well we've played around with our number. If you take our name, Metal in Motion and shorten it to MIM, rotate it 90 degrees to the right and it almost looks like 343 written vertially. Purely an accident though. We have had more discussion about the fact that 343 is 7 cubed. We have had that name in the running for a robot name several times but never used it. The other interesting bit of trivia about our number is that the balls this year have a 7 inch diameter. Therefore a rectangular box to hold one would have a volume of 343 cubic inches. We would love to play a match some day with teams 7 and 49 as our alliance partners. (Team 1 would be a good alternate! Maybe next year there will be a team 2401)

I think 931 was cool, on their shirts they had a math equation(no I don't have it on me) that ended up adding up to 931. I just thought it was neat.
Couldn't you just come up with a math equation adding to any number though? For instance, I could have 500+50+5=555!!! on my shirt, but I don't know that it would be regarded as very clever... I haven't seen 931's shirt that I can remember though, I'm sure it is much better than what I came up with ;)
I know you all already know this, but our team uses our number for our name.
1024 = 2^10 = 1 Kilobyte :D
Then, we got the name kil-a-bytes out of kilobyte. See Signature:

lets see...174 is a number thats easy to cheer.
I find that when I play Smash Brothers, I always make a knock out at 174%.
I can also buy a hambergur at my college for $1.74....seriously...
Other than that, 174 isn't that big of a number to do something with. We do however play with our Arctic Warrior name. One of our robots was named Ice^3 (Ice Cubed).

You have to do something with the 555 timer chip. That's way too big a coincidence that you got that team number... although i have no idea what you can do with it...

If I remember right 931 is <edit: nevermind, I guess I don't remember right! (see below)>, and the logo on their shirt involved some sort of sum in sigma notation. I don't know exactly what it was either though.
edit: I guess I'll add input on my team.
Well when I was a student on a team I thought our team name was very clever... "Club Sandwich". You see... the team comes from Sandwich Secondary School. To be honest we didn't really use it much in cheers or anything... it was just a fun name. This year they went through an absolute ton of restructuring and thought it was appropriate to come up with a new name, the "Sabre Bytes" - the school's sports teams are the "Sabres", and our mascot that has been used since 2002 is "Erbas" (Sabre.. spelled backwards! :ahh:) and it's just the same one that is used at sports events and pep rallies and such (very smelly...).
Hopefully they are done changing the team's name since the new shirts were so expensive (but they are really nice I must say).
How about bolt sizes? 6-32, 10-24, 10-24, 10-32, etc. This would be a great little giveaway for teams with screw size numbers! :D

our team number doesn't have too much significance to it -- other than it IS the answer to life. We've noticed a pattern...things we've done through the season someone match up to things that've happened on December 19th [not literally, but close enough] and smalls things that we do within in the team happen to match up to events that've taken place on the days we were born. It's hard to explain without getting into detail and such -- and if I got into detail...we'd be here forever!
But...here's something awesome I discovered!
1219 -- our original team number; guy's team number second year.
1309 -- our girl's team number in second year.
1 + 2 + 1 + 9 = 13
1 + 2 - 1 + 9 = 7
1 + 3 + 0 + 9 = 13
1 + 9 - 3 + 0 = 7
ooooooooh...it was a bit odd to say the least. But it was awesome none-the-less. I swear...I have a life, I have nightschool so I commute back and forth between home and nightschool -- an hr and a half there, and an hr and a half back -- with no friends on the bus, it makes you think a lot!

I like that one! It's catchy. You're right about the pizza though. The problem with Dominos Pizza is that it's good while you're eating it, and it's really easy to eat a lot of it, but as soon as you stop you regret it for the next few days. Or was the plurifying "s" the only difference in name?
This from Dillon's dad - team founder/mentor/coach/teacher, etc. Yeah, well..... we actually only got inot FIRST three years ago, and only then at the very last moment. first team meeting - pick a name! Later we would learn what all this other robot stuff was about... very naive, didn't do any research about other team names, dind;t even know where to look (didn;t even know Chief Delphi existed, etc.) When a student suggested "juggernauts" because it is an unstoppable force (derived, by the way from the hindu god jagganatha (sp.) who creates all kind of unstoppable energies in people), I corrected said student to point out that the premise of THE unstoppable force means there can only be one, ad thus Juggernaut (not juggernauts) was born. imagine my surprise and semi-embarassment to find that, on our first trip to nationals last year, the "juggernauts" ... so close in name... already existed AND they are team 0001!
No intention to bogart a name folks, but if we had intended such, team 0001 would be a great one to do it from! Unfortunately, but fortunately for our only 5 year old inner city charter school of only 400 students, our team is well supported in school and the entire studetn body has now voted to have JUGGERNAUT be our official school mascot for ALL sports! So... we may become the Firewire if the (IEEE) 1394 thing reonsates, but we'll also always be - with respect and regard for 0001 - the Juggernaut.

Some wacky things about "maximizing" our team name & number......things we didn't really intend to do until AFTER our team was "given" the number by FIRST and we somewhat backed-into the team name and slogan:
1) The number "1511". If you do the numerology thing, then "1+5+1+1=8"...and we all know that eight can be a 'lucky 8-ball" number, the number eight looks a bit like a Mobius strip of endless challenges for FIRST and if you turn the number "8" sideways, well, then it's the symbol for infinity.
2) Our motto of "rolling thunder"? Hmm, does thunder really "roll"? Or is it the storm clouds that are visualized to seem to be 'rolling". Can a sound wave really "roll"? And, if our logo is a tank, then does a Bradley or Sherman tank really make the sound of thunder? Whatever works, because our team (only in it's 2nd year) has surely maximized on the name with full red/black camouflage outfits, pit decor, cheers, etc.)
3) This year, for community service, we coined the idea of "151 thunderbolts". Well, does "thunder" really have a "bolt"??? Or is it lightning that has a "bolt"? In either case, we're capitalizing on our team name and number just for fun and a "cause".
4) lastly, we maximized all of this into our slogan...."The Thunder Just Keeps Getting Louder"......meaning that the spirit of FIRST keeps growing with each of us and it become infectious. Stop by our pit in Atlanta and we'll show you what we mean.
REMEMBER: The all-rookie meet & greet will be held again in Atlanta; pass the word to all rookie teams.

That's a pretty good story. How come none of the Oregon teams are the Oregon Trail?
Beats me!
Does anyone else have a computer/electronics related name like we (1024) do?
