View Full Version : Food In Atlanta
Ok so heres the deal....we are a rookie team going to Atlanta. however, our team has a question about the food. It has been told to us that "Absolutely NO outside food may be brought in". We were just checking the validity of this statement, or are we allowed to bring in our own food for lunches and stuff. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

No, you cannot bring your own food into the venue, into the pits or the dome.
I believe they will let you eat your own food outside in the grassy areas, there are 2 big ones outside the GWCC.
Also, if you are looking to avoid arena food at arena prices, there is a large food court next door in the CNN center.
The food court in CNN tends to be my favorite. Alternatives that I also like (if you don't mind the trip) are The Varsity and Underground Atlanta.

You have to go to the Varsity (just not for lunch it is too long of a walk). Its an old school drive-in diner (apparently they will still serve you in your car too). Great place to get a hot dog, root beer float and paper hat :D

This option allows for much more variety and typically lower prices. I find it also to be a nice "escape"- sometimes being around the loud field/pits for to long can give you a headache!
Going to the CNN court is great, but during competition you may not have much time as it is a bit of a walk to get there. Your competition and/or pit team definitely won't have time to walk over there. They will have to either get food there or have someone bring them food outside, assuming it is not raining.
A message was sent to all teams giving information about preordered box lunches. I don't know much about those, but they seem pricey - which may be the standard rate for food in the Dome (i.e., $5.50 for hamburger, chips, soda.)

The Underground is good for Wednesday Night when you want to get out after that bus ride. Good places to eat. Short Marta Ride, too.
And that bit about no food in the rules, searches only apply to bags. If you have a combo meal in your hand they'll stop you but they usually let you by with drinks.
The CNN center is probably one of your best options. Tons of variety and alarge food court alll in one spot.Usually there are a bunch of teams there and it is right next to the Dome. The Varsity is good, kinda overpriced, too bad we ate it every day of build season...

To comment on what others have said here:
I have never seen food or drinks being allowed to be brought into the dome for any event including Championship's. That being said, I assume that some people will bring jackets and they have pockets....
I disagree with my friend Santosh. The Varsity (http://www.thevarsity.com/locations.php?action=view&store_id=1) aka world's largest drive in restaurant, is for the most part priced fairly. The food is greasy which it is known for, but tastes great. If you are over near GA Tech / North avenue Marta station a visit to The Varsity is a must. Get your food and find one of the many different TV rooms or not, to enjoy your food. It is likely too far to walk to though.
There are huge grassy areas outside of the dome to eat and play.
CNN Center right next to the dome, is the place to go with many different fast food places. This includes a favorite here in the south, Chick-Fil-A.
If the pre-order lunch is $5.50 for hamburger, chips & soda that is not bad if you are unable to get to the CNN Center. Sodas during a football game at the dome are $4.50 and pizzas $6. I think they are slightly lowering their prices during Championship's.

i agre with the above for lunch the cnn buildng is the easiest and cheapest. however for supper there the hardrock cafe, peach tree center, and a great chinese place not to far from the dome.

There's a Hard Rock Cafe a few blocks down from the CNN center. That, of course, would be a dinner time place to eat, maybe Wednesday night.

More like everything with metal shavings...
If even CNN is too far away, last year some of the places there sent delegations to set up a temporary food court just outside the pits. CAUTIONS: 1) I don't know if it will be back this year. 2) Go well before or well after lunchtime, as the more popular places may run out. There was also a barbecue outside, with long lines.

In addition to that, there is a sort of "hidden" food court in the same building as the pits. I can't recall where exactly it is, but it's near the edge of the courtyard, IIRC.

I think it's on that side, lower level. I never went there, but I think there are signs by the main pit entrance.
