Feel free to post about your bot, about other bots, your top robot list, and any other discussion about the division itself.
LET'S GO ARCHIE, LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm always excited about the championships.
Alot of familiar teams from last year.
As I learned from last year (when Archie was considered the toughest division. Perhaps ever) Just because you don't have the strongest division doesn't mean Archie doesn't have a chance to take it all.
WHole divisions don't go to Einstien. A three team allaince does and that team could be better than what comes out of those "tougher" divisions ( As Archie learned last year).

lol
I think this is the first time we have been in Archimedes.
But this division doesn't look weak at all. We have metal being motioned towards a flock of chickens dressed in pink doing a thunder dance while being chased by a swarm of KillerBees, while the chief watches a technical panther, who is stalking a hookie but carefully eyes the guard which is directly behind Mr Roboto ... who views his newfound home in amazement :yikes: and an eagle playing chess with the cat just eXclaimed a cyclone is moving in!
Its going to be fun!

lol im with you on that
is there a difference between each division? i have no clue man. i was thinking it was separated by what part of the US they were from, but that isnt it.
is there a difference between each division? i have no clue man. i was thinking it was separated by what part of the US they were from, but that isnt it.
Teams get sorted into their division by their team number, If you look at the list most of the time every fourth team is in the same division (where that doesn't happen theres usually a team pending and they will fill in the missing spot for each division).
If you look at the 8 lowest number teams:
1 Galileo
4 Archimedes
9 Curie
11 Newton
16 Galileo
20 Archimedes
22 Curie
25 Newton
every fourth team
At least thats how I understand it working.
this is when i notice that i'm not good with patterns.
has anyone compiled the stats to see how many:
regional winners
EI winners
chairmans winners
past national winners
regional award winners
are in our division? or any other helpful stats to stack our division against the others? think it would be pretty interesting to see ;)

The division has 2 of the 3 winners from VCU. Ought to make for some fun times.
I'm sitting in my class waiting for the boredom to end and putting together different teams on alliances. We may have fewer "Awesome Robots" but the stategy coming out of these matches should make for some fun times Friday night, trying to figure out who you want to be alligned with.

We, Team 233 are one that you missed. We won the Chairman's Award at the UCF regional. Also, interestingly, we have been in Archimedes every year since about 1999. The chances of that happening are 4 to the 7th. power or something like that.

are the fields really that different?
The only difference as far as I can see is that it's a longer trek to Archimedes, since it's usually all the way across the Georgia dome from the robot entrance.

I can't believe Atlanta is NEXT WEEK already. While team 1675 may not have qualified to get in, I'm extremely glad I pushed for us to take advtage of the opening of tier #1 - the teams my kids will be exposed to in this division (and the others of course) and have a chance to directly interact with are some of the teams that I am continually inspired by year after year. While I have a feeling that our robot will perform better than ever in the dome, the people the kids will meet and knowledge from the conferences they will gain will be an invaluable experience. Archimedes will be represented well and be the best we can be! ARCHI-MEDES! ARCHI-MEDES!

Hey all...
Arch from what I can see has a lot of the same teams that were in
Curie last year (us, X-cats,killer bees, etc.) Somehow we've dodged the triplets and team 25. 401 was in Arch last year and I'm glad to be with them
this year. Too bad 1598 is'nt with us again like at VCU. I had hoped we had gotten Galileo because Jeff Seaton is the MC, But I'm happy with what we got.
Am looking forward to the trip...VCU was better the second time around because we had a larger team this year I had more free time.
Last year was so hectic at Atlanta not being there before with a small
team. I think this year will be better.
While Arch might be far away from the Dome entrance...its the closest
(ala the pits) walking without the robot) from the GWCC to the Dome.
The only difference as far as I can see is that it's a longer trek to Archimedes, since it's usually all the way across the Georgia dome from the robot entrance.
Yeah be sure to bring your walking shoes its a LONG LONG LONG WALK.

4. Ramp capabilities?
5. Effective autonomous Mode(s)?
6. Speed/Power/Maneuverability
7. Average scoring?

Dumper
Up to 40
Can ramp and can push other robots up ramp
Several autonomous modes suited for opposing alliance
For #6:
1138. They pushed us up the ramp. Sideways. And our robot is a six wheel drive with 4" wheels covered in roughtop tread. They even pushed 40 around when their traction plates were down. The traction plates were 16" square covered in tread (can't remember which kind). Yeah, talk about sick drives.
...1276 was mentioned because they...can push almost anyone around and are extremely hard to push around with their 6 traction wheels and AM shifters.
Avg Scoring about 15 pts from dumping

I will personally vouch for the fact that 1138 can play defense, they were excellent at BAE and pushed around any one who got in their way.
1.) 1568 The Mechanicatz
2.) We are a shooter
3.) 10
4.) No problem, have also helped others up.
5.) multiple defensive modes including high speed to beat dumper to the corner, and high speed to get to robot then high torque to push them away from the goal (watch our semifinal matches (2 and 3) from boston to see) Since boston I wrote an auto mode that wil score 4-6 in the center (camera aimed) It works in the debugger but is untested, It hould be available for use friday.
6.) Great speed in high gear, can Push almost any one in low.
7.) Not sure, I am sure the number is very low but will be higher in atlanta, we didn't get all of the bugs worked out untill saturday in boston and by then all of our partners wanted us to play defense.
8.) 42 inches off the ground
9.) camera aimed (pan and tilt) with manual over ride option.
10.) I will post as soon as I find one

just touching up on what alicia said already:
yes, we DO have autonomous modes.
1. dump balls in corner goal
2. shoot on center goal from middle position (problems with this thanks to an unfocused camera, but we fixed that so it *should* be working just perfect now)
and yeah, the camera's fixed. but if it breaks again, we do have manual that works well.
and as far as power, yeah we dont have so much. BUT! we do have brakes. and they sorta keep us in place.

Hey team 103,
glad to see you made the list, maybe we'll get to be alliance partners again and take down 25 on einstein this time instead of allying with them :p , i would love to face them, unfortunately our team never got to in jersey, but im also looking forward to playing with/against 486 and 375 again
see you there and good luck
Hey all,
Attatched is an excel spreadsheet with the top 15 seeds from each regional, the Radioshack Innovation in Control award from each regoinal, and the finalists and champions from each regional penciled in for the teams fom our division. It also has the offensive power ranking for each team
Enjoy,
P. S.: For whoever is having problems, right click on the link, save as..., and paste division rankings.xls instead of attatchment.php.

5. Move and shoot, just move (perfecting both of those and adding low dump on Thursday)
6. 10fps 4WD using wormgears (decent power, average traction), average manueverability
7. 3-4 through regionals with drive problems, hopefully more now that drive is fixed.

296, congrats on putting your team in the history books :P number one seed and making it to einstein, incredible!
Seeing 217 in the pits at gtr, even before they played, I thought they'd win the regional... and they got oh so close. Finally, gotta show some love for the first american team to walk away with the chairmans award at gtr, 522. Overall incredible job, you've probably got a lot of people rooting for you :D

Congrats to 296. 217, and 522. We beat you guys once in the Archi finals, but couldn't put it all together. It was great to see you guys win on Einstein.
Also, it was great to see 522 do well. We had a fantastic run with 522 and the Manchester UK team, I think 829, in winning the NYC regional in '04.
There were a lot of teams that I thought would definitely get drafted but didn't get picked. One that comes to mind is team 1538, the Holy Cows. They were usually a pretty consistent shooter from what I saw and they were not that low in the rankings. Just an observation, I know not every team can be picked and there were a lot of good teams that didn't get picked. Anyone else see any teams that they thought would get drafted but didn't?
We wished we had been picked, we had good defense and could shoot if nessisary. We were in 26th... Oh well, maybe next year, this was our first regionals.

On behalf of Team 20, Congratulations to 296-217-522 for beating us, winning Archimedes, and winning the Championship!! You are all wonderful teams, but I have known the folks from Staten Island for many years and am thrilled that they have a National Championship!
Many thanks for Teams 138 and 159 for teaming with us. We gave them a good run! Team 1675, you were awesome! Thanks for doing such a great job.
There were about 30 teams we could have picked. It was a very close and very difficult decision! I hope we can play with you all next year.

yeah ohh well we look at it as everything happens for a reason and to explain to anybody why 1902 wasn't doing as well was becuase their middle wheel broke so they didn't have the traction and power they had in the first round we won against them and the 33 autonomous wouldn't work but ohh well it was a blast to play with you and i just think those are signs we weren't meant to win yet but great job 217 and all of your alliance you guys were great. And, 522 we couldn't have done it without you guys. Thank you to all of Archimedes for cheering us on at Einstein, and all the other teams that were rooting for us. Atlanta was amazing, not because we won, but because of all the friends we have made and the inside jokes we now fill our conversations with...oh and by the way, all the 217 Mentors are shaving their heads...Paul will be shaving his head for IRI. Last year Archimedes appeared "on paper" to be the strongest division, but things just didn't work out for strong alliances to fall into place. This year, the opposite occurred. The winning 296/217/522 alliance was awesome, and our 233/33/1902 was very strong when everything worked well. I guess this just tells us that if you predict the Einstein outcome from the division lists, you probably have a random chance, 25 per cent, of being right.
