Announcing the first FIRST NEMO annual meeting!
When: Thursday, April 27, 2006. 12:30-2 pm (after the ChiefDelphi web hug)
Where: at the GWCC. Room TBA
What: This will be an opportunity to meet and greet your fellow NEM’s. We will be distributing the new NEMO cd of resources, and the limited edition “I found NEMO” buttons. The new NEMO website should be launched soon. (All of the above thanks to Kathie!) We will have an open discussion, addressing any immediate concerns brought by the group.
Who: This meeting is open to all current members of NEMO and any adult who would like to join.
About NEMO
NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization) is a support group and information exchange for those adult
non-engineering mentors who help teams as part of the FIRST robotics programs. NEMO wants to make it a little easier for rookies. NEMO wants to have a central clearinghouse for information that will benefit all teams. NEMO wants to be able to discuss challenges in a supportive environment. We all have a lot to learn from each other.
NEMO was formed in 2004 by three mentors from opposite sides of the United States who had been sharing suggestions and ideas via e-mail. They realized that other FIRST team mentors could benefit from an exchange of ideas.
NEMO will be open to adult mentors, including engineers, teachers and college students (who may be the only mentors on their teams) who are involved with all the non-engineering aspects of the FIRST Robotics programs. It is mainly a support group and information exchange for those mentors who help with all the behind-the-scene glue that hold the teams together including mentor recruitment and retention, travel (hotels, endless meals), parent involvement, fundraising, business plans, public relations, community service, dealing with the FIRST logistics. We hope to seek out all the NEM’s who don't realize they are part of a large community.
Joining NEMO
All adult NEM’s are welcome. To join, sign up to be a member on Chief Delphi. Chief Delphi is a website comprised of forums on topics of interest to FIRST teams. Chief Delphi has given NEMO a private forum. Once a member of Chief Delphi, contact RoboMom (Jenny Beatty) or KathieK (Kathie Kentfield) by private message or e-mail to sign up. This forum is private and will only be visible to members under the forums for "FIRST-related Organizations.” Please include your name, Team number, Chief Delphi screen name, and your team role.
NEMO is a virtual organization. There are no fees or dues to join.
