I'm curious about who on the CD forums have applied to and/or gotten any of the scholarships offered through FIRST. If you have, can you please post which scholarship(s) you've applied to and have received word on notification or not? ;)
I've also heard that scholarship winners are announced at the Championship, but the list is slow to be posted on the FIRST website. My team won't be attending the national competition this year, so can someone please post [some of] the scholarship winners as they become available? Thanks. ^_^
...Yeah, there is one scholarship that I applied to and haven't heard anything from the college about... It's a major component in my deciding which college to attend, so I'm really hoping to get a award/denial notification within this week.

When I received my FIRST scholarship two years ago, I was notified about two weeks before Championships. After championships, the list is posted on the usfirst.org site usually.

When I received the WPI scholarship in 2000, Woodie announced it during opening ceremonies on the saturday of nats.
It was pretty much the perfect way to start one of the best days of my life.

I got mine to Kettering about a week before Nats, and Bob Nichols gave a formal presentation at the competition. Defineately the only way I have been able to afford KU without student loans.

I have won the Olin Scholarship this year. While I found out from Olin College before FIRST, I received an e-mail from FIRST congratulating me on winning a FIRST Scholarship about a week ago. The e-mail didn't say which scholarship I had won. I received a follow-up inviting me to a couple things for scholarship winners at the Championships.
Good luck!

yes. :)
Believe it or not all of the rest of our robotics team this year got accepted to Drexel, all 6 of them. One of the kids though changed his mind and is going to UPenn. So next year it will just be me on the team :( and that would be awsome if I got accepted now so its a lot less pressure off of me during senior year.

I received one of the UC Davis FIRST scholarships and I'll be attending the college if there's no last-second major turnabout of events.
Side note: Oh, this is almost sad. The edit timer hit the limit while I was editing the topic post to put this blurb in.
Thank you for your interest... ...At this time, all recipients of FIRST scholarship have been notified.
I want to thank your for taking the time to submit your application for the scholarship. We had over 75 applications total for the FIRST scholarships this year, and it was a very competitive process. You certainly appear to be an excellent student and very involved in Robotics! We hope to see you on the WPI campus this fall.I received this e-mail earlier today. I guess it means that if you haven't heard from WPI, then you didn't get the scholarship...? Bah, Friday will tell. Hopefully.

I haven't heard from anybody (Purdue, WPI, and Northeastern). I'm concerned, because I'm basing where I'm going to college based on this, and I need to know right away.

Meh. All three of these winners should have been notified by now.
I didn't get the Northeastern scholarship. I was really banking on it, and yes it stinks, but I guess thats just life.

Have they announced the winners nof the scholarships this year yet? I have been watching almost all day don't tell me I misses it.
I applied for and received the WPI Allaire Scholarship about a month ago, though I need to tell them I'm not taking it...maybe I should do that soon...
I applied at the competition but did not hear the resultts
I didn't see them post the scholarships during the competition. Some of the professors and representatives from the colleges who came to the competition notified the students about the scholarships. I recieved one of the two RPI scholarships.

I found out that I received the Northeastern FIRST scholarship last Monday, the day before my team left for Atlanta. Knowing that I will graduate from college loan-free was a great way to start my week.

Looks like FIRST started to update the page. They're still missing a few though.

Uh-oh. Now WPI has informed me that I did receive the Allaire full tuition scholarship, but it's long past the housing reservation deadline and I'd already made up my mind to attend UC Davis.
What to do now? I've got until Monday morning to tell WPI whether I'll be attending the school or not. If not, then the scholarship will be passed onto the next person in line. I suppose it should be relatively easy to tell UC Davis that I've changed my mind, but I've already finished up quite a bit of paperwork for the school already...and I'd have to rush through the stuff for WPI.
EDIT: The Monday morning deadline may be extended. My parents called WPI to ask for more time.

What do you personally want? Here are some things to consider -
1. How much have you already paid for UC Davis?
2. Does UC Davis have any fine print about this kind of situation?
3. Which school is truly a better match for you?
4. How much would you end up paying in the long run for both? Compare.
5. What do your parents think?

I guess the way I would look at it is: don't leave yourself with the ability to look back and think "What if I did?" Now I don't know if that 'did' means "go to WPI" or "go to UC Davis", that is up to you to decide. Don't leave yourself in a situation where a few years down the road, you're going to look back and wish you had made the other choice. Just do what you feel is right.

Furthermore, I'd bet a few donuts that if they're giving you a full tuition scholarship, someone can help work out housing and other late paperwork issue for you at WPI. I'm assuming WPI has the better financial package since you'll be nailed with out-of-state tuition at Davis, which the scholarship just about covers.
I'd go through Eugenia's list of things to ask yourself. Some more considerations: Have you been to both campuses? How did you like them? What attracted you to apply to WPI and for the Allaire scholarship in the first place? Do those things still sound good? Are you (and your family) prepared to be on different coasts now?
Think it out, discuss with some people who know you well, and pick. If it's Davis, tell WPI you decline. If it's WPI, try to get someone on the phone or through email that can tell you what exactly you need to do and when you need to do it by to make a smooth entrance, especially paperwork that is now considered "late." Once that has been satisfactorily cleared up, *then* contact Davis to withdraw. I'm assuming since this is early May that you've submitted your Intent to Register with ~$100 a few weeks ago and perhaps put down some cash to apply for housing at Davis? Those fees won't be coming back, though they are small compared to the long-term costs at either institutions. And if you do prefer WPI, a little extra hassle now is worth it. You probably will at some point wonder "what if..", which is all right, but don't get too hung up on it. You're going to make the best decision you can now, and you'll will succeed at either school. Good luck!
Colleges always say you can't pull out of an intent to register unless something completely drastic happens, like financially. In this case for you, something drastic did happen for you financially (good thing is that its for the better), and right now you have a tough decision to make. From a lot of people I talk to, they say the "gut feeling" is what really had drawn them to a college.
