Greetings Teams:
FIRST needs your help. You can help FIRST get national network TV coverage. CBS News Assignment America has contacted us about possibly doing a story on FIRST. But the decision to proceed or not won't be made by CBS - it might be made by you.
Here's How It Works.
* CBS News previews three different segments on its Friday night 7:00PM broadcast and asks viewers to vote for the one they would like to see covered more completely. The segment with the most votes gets covered with a full story. The segment is called Assignment America. This Friday, one of the choices will be a story on FIRST.
Here's What You Can Do
Friday night after the broadcast, go to CBSNews.com, click on the Assignment America icon and vote for FIRST.
If the entire FIRST community turns out, we'll be tough to beat!
Thanks for your help.
Go Teams!

EDIT:
Wow, now that's instant gratification. Thanks Brandon.

I voted for Amadou's Story, not because I think it would expose more people around the country to FIRST, but it sounds like it will expose more FIRST students, looking for a story about themselves, to education/immigration issues, issues that impact all of us. I look forward to watching the program.

Just voted,
I am having my whole team vote too. If you have more than one browser you can vote once in each one.
Let's get as many votes as we can and show everyone what FIRST is about. So tell your friends, coworkers, teammates, etc. to go and vote.

On behalf of Team 66, and hopefully more of my members catch on by Monday, I voted.
Cross fingers and hope this works out!
It feels a bit weird that we should be positioning this kid's fight to stay in the United States as a great opportunity to make a FIRST commercial.

Just a little cool tidbit, this information was sent out to over 9000 NASA employees on Saturday. Hopefully this will make the difference. No matter what your opinion is on the story, remember that it is still national media coverage for FIRST. The more we are known the better (unless we get called a company by CNN again. I was waiting for the reporter to ask Dean that as the CEO of FIRST, what his salary would be).

Voting's closed...they'll announce the winner in half an hour...
Unless either of the other stories has a hidden cult following them, in all honesty Amandou's story should win.
Amandou won! Amandou won!

There was just a story about this on PBS with Jim Lehrer. It was filmed in Atlanta and while they didn't describe FIRST they did show a bit of the competition and an interview in the pits. They also interviewed Amadou's teammates with the large FIRST banner hung outside in the background.
They may post it later on PBS's website. I didn't see anything when I just looked. The story was aired at 7:45 pm tonight. The timing was amazing, I'm just flipping channels when I run across them talking about Amadou and showing an Aim High match going in the background. :)

I just saw the segment on CBS. It was definitly well done and shows the struggles that Amandou had to over come to do what he loves most, FIRST. Definitly inspiring.
eh like always it was short, but it was pretty cool to see some Atlanta action on a huge station like CBS.

Just saw it as well. It was a pretty nice report. There may not have been a lot of robot action in it, but anything we get is good, and I think the the real story and subject matter was more important.

I saw it--it was a very nice piece. Perhaps some folks would gripe about them only talking about the competition itself, but I liked the way it was covered.

It was pretty well done; I liked the opening line..."This is a story about a robot, but also not..." or something like that. To be honest, that fits FIRST itself pretty well, even though that wasn't their intention.
I didn't tune in until 6:45; lost track of time and nearly freaked when I thought I missed it. Luckily for me, they didn't air it until about 6:50. :D
