for any1 who was at the after party on saturday:
are you or anyone else on your team feeling sick? there is something going around on my team as was wondering if anybody else has caught anything. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the food that was there, i just want to try to rule it out as a possibility.
symptoms range anywhere from stuffy nose, to fever, diareah(sp) and vomiting/not being able to hold anything down
thanks
I ate a hotdog, burger and brownie all from the first line... I feel fine
I have been sick since Thursday, but I did eat at the party and it didn't make me feel any worse.

Both our team and CIA, 291, went through table #4, with no apparent problems yet. Most actual food poisoning takes awhile to kick in; like 2 or 3 days. But we've been fine so far.

I ate a hamburger and some of the brownies, and during the fireworks got severly sick and missed some of the show from the port-a-potties. I've been fine since then, but the food was definetly not the best.

Same thing here. I have a headache now and stuffy nose...ugh.
The food was cheap and underwhelming but I didn't get sick from it. Just sick of it.
without a doubt there were tons of sick people in atlanta (mostly stuffy noses), but I noticed that way before Saturday

I had a salad, hot dog, and brownies and I have been feeling like trash. It was definitely not the food from the party - this was my own doing. Between a combined 20 hours of sleep for the whole weekend (12 a.m. Thursday through 12 p.m. Sunday) and lots and lots of yelling, screaming, laughing, and cheering, I think it is safe to say that I did myself in.

If there was a food poisoning there,
My team and I are lucky that we didnt go there in first place.

These are the symptoms of a flu that has been going around since March. It takes a couple days of not being to hold anything down (vomit-wise). I don't know anything about diarrhea in relation to it.
It's like any other flu - stress makes it worse. Rest, drink OJ, etc.
However, let me warn you of something right now. Coupled with any infections like bronchitis and pneumonia, being sick with this is very rough. I got it at the same time as recovering from bronchitis, and because of the stress of being sick with both, my system went haywire. Yes, it's intense. No, it's not food poisoning (probably). Take care of yourselves.

Actually, that was from the drink containers which had ice and cans of pop/soda. That's why last year and this they had taps for pop/soda at the VA Science Museum. ;)

They had coolers with soda in them again this year :yikes:
But that's what spread it, but everyone thought it was food poisoning saturday morning when half of the regional was sick. :p

I ate all except for the salad, and I'm A-OK.
I hope you all feel better though.

I went through table #2, and I'm fine. I got a chance to talk to Woodie this morning (he was on our MARTA train), and he asked us if we had any complaints. We said we thought it was awesome, and that the fireworks ruled. The only addition would be another laser tag tent, as we waited a good portion of the party to get into that one game.

My wavy burger was great, and so were some of the 12 pies NERD's in action had through the night.. or.. so I am told.. since I didn't even get to enjoy any.
I think with a stressful weekend such as Nats with the high energy levels, and people coming from multiple places on the globe, then things are just gonna naturally happen this way.
Colds will be caught, allergies (like mine) which were previously dormant over the winter will start goin' crazy, and people will pass some stomach bugs around as well.
The only way to prevent this is to sterilize the entire city of Atlanta, and put a big bubble over yourself so you don't touch or breath in anything but the air you bring from wherever you come from..
But.. since we can't do that don't just jump to conclusions and say I'm sick cause of the wrap party food.
How much running around did you do this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm guessing more.
How many times did you eat or rest and drink this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm guessing a lot less.
How much sleep/rest did you get this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm bettin' everything I own on not enough or less than a normal week.
Bottom line, it's not alway what you eat, but what you do and how your body reacts to it that is the factor of whether or not you got sick..
Don't be quick to say it's the food at a huge gathering, but look at how you reacted to everything in the big picture.

I'm sick right now (flu like symptoms) and have stayed home from school. I can tell you that I know exactly where it came from. Not sleeping enough, not eating right, getting stressed, and then being exposed to anything that might be going around schools all over the US, Canada, Brazil, Israel, and the UK. I have a feeling that it's just the effect of being in close quarters with a lot of people, many of whom were probably getting sick, and most of whom were not taking good care of themselves.
Ugh, now I've missed 4 days of school in a row and I still feel like crap, at least I got some sleep.
This has been discussed in some of the other threads also. It's bound to happen. I like to think of myself as the Energizer bunny but reality says I am worn out, my immune system is now repressed and I will pick up everything. I've been ill since January, doing way too much. I picked up the laryngitis virus in early March and the "stomach bug" on Week 5 of the regionals and came home from Atlanta with a cold. Get some rest. Eat right. Drink lots of fluids. All those things we should know to do but we don't...

Back in Michigan on the Sunday before the Championship Event Teams 70 and 494 had a Championship driver strategy meeting at my home. By Monday we were all sick with the most severe stomach flu I've ever seen.
Our team 494 driver (my son) and ball operator were down and I mean down for the count!!!
Our team 70 ball operator was still recovering Thursday at practice rounds.
My wife, kids and I were all sick!
Worst stuff I've EVER had! Just plain NASTY!
This is probably what is going around the country now.

We have a bunch of people on our team who are sick. It doesn't seem to be linked to anything in particular that anyone ate. One of our students only ate the salad, another only ate the burgers, hot dogs, and brownies, both have had to go to the hospital.
I too can attest to the lack of sleep/not eating right/stressed out sickness. We had 6 team members with flu-like sympotms over the course of the event, some worse than others. We spent both wednesday and saturday night sleeping on the bus on the way to/from Atlanta to save hotel costs, so lack of proper sleep was for sure the issue. The good news is, with some good rest and proper eating you bounce back relatively quickly.
Being on the drive team as coach, I generally end up sick at just about every regional, regardless of how hard I try to eat properly, because lack of proper sleep and stress are always going to be factors. Only in FIRST do you see students and mentors grinning and bearing a whole range of sicknesses, just so they can continue competing. Get well soon everybody.

thank you to everyone who posted, but a majority of the people who were sick are fine now. a few ppl including myself have a few little problems like the occasionaly stomach ache and head ache, but we will be fine. we do not believe it had anything to do with the food, but more likely someone was carrying a bug and spread it when we were in such close quarters
peace
I ate a brownie and had a few drinks..and now I've gotten extremely sick as well. Had a high fever / body aches / all the bad stuff grrr.
