... when after you graduate from high school you are still addicted to CD & visit it regularly
... when after graduating you find not one FRC team, but THREE to mentor
... when you rearrange your college class schedule so that you have the most time possible for mentoring
... when your family gets you a scrapbook with robots on the cover & robot ornaments for Christmas
... when you stay up for 48 hours to set up a FLL tournament, judge FLL, and then tear down the tournament
... when you are so involved with the teams you now mentor that, after meeting you only 3 months ago, the students call you their "big sister"
... when you are already trying to figure out how to take time off of work for the Michigan FIRST State Championship & the FIRST World Championship because you will be back in your co-op term at that point
... when you went to the Google map of all the FIRST teams & added 4 teams because you knew all the information for them off the top of your head

Hahahaha no joke that is how I felt last week and surely will this week as well. I have two robotics functions this week that I am attending. FLL mentoring session at a neighboring middle school and a little test chassis build session for our programmers and EEs to start working on before the build season. They will possibly be the highlight of my week. Sad...I know haha.

You strive to park in your teams numbered parking spot (103)! I used to do that on a regular basis (240). The only problem was that space is in the visitors section of our parking lot here, so I got a few complaints. They let me get away with it on competition days, for good luck.

When you have a scary conversation on your Facebook status with one of 1918's coaches about a game where the robot is suspended by bars across the ceiling and must pick up and transport tennis balls across the field and into the goal... and they cant EVER touch the ground.

Also when you have your phone Epicly break and you cant get a replacement on it 'til February so you make your 10 year old brother subscribe to Bills Blog on Twitter from his phone JUST so you can make sure you don't miss anything.

By request....................
'Twas the night before Kick-off, we’ll call it Kick-off Eve,
No team knew what challenge tomorrow conceived.
The guesses were many but none were for sure,
The enthusiasm was high and the excitement was pure.
The students were restless as they went to bed,
While visions of robots raced through their heads.
Flowers knew the challenge along with Kamen,
Tomorrow the rest of us would find out, AMEN.
The long awaited answer to what we would do,
For the next six weeks would soon come true.
Our mentors and team have been working for weeks,
Teaching our CNC group how to produce the many tweaks.
Showing our mechanics how holes get tapped,
Instructing our controls team on not getting zapped.
Our programmers were contemplating autonomous control,
While our drivers thought about their manual role.
Our challenge I’m sure which will be first rate,
And in just six weeks it’ll get stuck in a crate.
Off to our first regional for 2011,
To a competition that will be just like heaven.
There’s work ahead building our robot and crate,
As we work with the manual and “daily” update.
And for tomorrow, make sure you’re there at eight.
Weighing our robot and counting each pound,
If it’s too heavy, more holes will be found.
We brainstorm, plan and build what a feat,
While having fun 'til our robots’ complete.
There are awards available, very many we knew,
We all hoped we would end up with one, maybe two.
The awards presented by FIRST, our mentor he read,
As thoughts for winning them began to be said.
There’s Chairman’ s and Quality and Safety and Visualization,
There’s Inventor and Spirit and Website and Innovation.
Tomorrow won’t come soon enough for Team 2062,
We’re always looking for better things to do.
A short time from now received by satellite dish,
Will come the answer to each teams wish.
As we get prepared for another busy build season,
We say to all teams for all the right reasons.
And it needs to be said and comes from the gut,
“Gracious Professionalism to all and to all Good Luck “

...when you got no sleep last night because you were thinking about kickoff.
Oh goodness, don't even get me started on my team's song writing exploits...
"Bad Program" (Bad romance)
"Read it" (Beat it) (A lyrical plea to read the manual)
"Pour blue Loctite on me"
And many more...
A friend and I did Bad Program for the IRI talent show... C C C ++, Ja-va, java, LabVIEW oh-la-la, want your bad program.

Haha. I did not even notice that I said that! I will get that right within the next day or two. I still have the song stuck in my head, and it still says locomotion (GFR is one of my favorite bands). :p

...When you arrive to your regional after a 5 hour drive only to remember that it was a bag and tag...:yikes:
When lunch break means you are not eating lunch until matches start up again because you are working on the robot.
When you wish your robot had broken down before lunch, so you didn't have to miss matches to fix it
When your headache goes away as soon as the robot returns to the pit
You're not crying because your robot didn't work, but because of how it got fixed.
When you almost say "thank you" to the voltmeter. Actually, I'm not entirely sure that I stopped myself before saying it.

when you spend more time on CD than facebook.
when you start talking to your minibot telling it it's better than the spare minibot.

When you and a bunch of friends go to the arcade and pool tickets, and have a complete nerdgasm because the total number of tickets is 1188 (or whatever your team number is)

When you hear 'Strippers' and you think about electrical
When you go to school w/ no voice and your teachers realize its normal
When you are playing NCAA football or basketball on your ps3 and you swear that the crowds are chanting RED ALLIANCE or BLUE ALLIANCE!

...you obsess with your friends about different numbers, such as 2:16 PM.
...you look forward to the weekend, not to hang out with friends, but to go to your next competition.
...you look forward to Spring Break to build robots.
...you have enough buttons to make yourself a full-body suit.
... you have a hard time readjusting back to everyday life after the season's done.

You and your friends only know when prom tickets go on sale because it is the same week as one of your competitions.

...when your mind wanders during school thinking of improved minibot and minibot deployer designs
...when you spend your lunch reading cd
...when you post on cd during lunch
when you have done almost everything on this thread, while only being a sophomore.
You know you've overdosed on FIRST when...
You and another team member shave your Team Number (2081) in the back of your head.... when prom is right around the corner :D

When your teammates make bets about shaving your team number in their head if you go undefeated at your regional. Way to stick to your word Evan!

When in Art class you draw to scale sketches of a new claw design.
When robotics take priority over getting a date for prom.
When you don't worry about it cause you know you're going to RoboProm!

This one time at band camp become; this one time at robot camp...(yes we have summer build)
When, at a boy scout meeting where your scoutmasters are talking about other troops, you hear their troop numbers and immediately begin associating them with FIRST teams...::rtm::

Then you wake up in the morning and realize that the site you were browsing was Chief Delphi and your dreams were filled with minibots.

When you about jump out of your seat every time you hear FIRST, even when it's not in this context of FIRST...
When all you ever think about is new outreach projects you can tackle...:D
When you crack robotics jokes to your friends who don't participate in FIRST...
When you start rambling off random phrases from your Chairman's Presentation...
Your friends who aren't on FIRST are considered honorary members, because they know almost just as much (strategy, design flaws, rules, outreach projects, the meaning of gracious professionalism, what the team should do in the off season, and where the best places to get Chinese food are) as FIRST members, because you won't stop talking about it to them.

When you ask people if they will get you a persuasion tool (mallet, hammer, something hard that you can swing around).
When you see a cartoon Segway for about half a second on the Fanta commercial and stand up and yell "Dean! Dean! Dean!" and your family doesn't treat that as unusual.

When looking at different robots not related to FIRST you imagine making how to make that robot able to accomplish this year's game.
I saw a tiny robot on youtube that could grasp an object and drive around controlled by an accelerometer and buttons on a watch. Thought it needed some rollers.
