Figured it was about time we started one for this year, so

Competition Name
When is it
Where is it
Team Capactity
Mini-games if any
any other additional information

And like the past, to make things less cluttered, just announce them here. Start a new thread to discuss any one in particular.

Also, to other mentors or students, if you could please post your off-season events like 3-4 months in advance, that would be great. Our school needs to know in advance when events are happening.

Thanks

can someone please compile a list of off-season events outside of this thread and stick it in the white papers......

it would be very helpful!

or maybe everyone who is hosting an event could contact FIRST and have it put on the website. a few of these events are already listed there.

Has a date been set for Bash at the Beach yet?

We were thinking about attending this year if possible.

Thanks!

[Edit] Bash@theBeach will be held October 14, 2006. More info at www.batb.us

A bunch of us camped nearby and despite the rainy weather, we had a good time. It is fall foliage season here so hotels and campgrounds sometimes fill up fast (something to keep in mind).

Good idea!!
But, if anyone wants to look at look at the fall foliage a little later in the month they can come to my house. All that I ask is they bring a couple of bags and take some home with them. :)

You might want to bring a rake too. Rakes are the 'tools' that us New Englanders use to view the foliage with. Every. Day.

I know its not a "robotics competition" but, it is for FIRST teams.

The R^2 Challenge Cup, part of the 5th Annual Tournament of Rosie. Go to www.team839.com for details.

Sorry to stray from the topic, but why do I see only events that are East of, say, Toronto? Is there any off-season FIRST west of Pennsylvania??

KathieK
11-05-2006, 06:08
yes, I noticed the same thing when I was putting together the white paper - please let us know about your western off-seasons so we can add them to the list.

Conor Ryan
11-05-2006, 09:40
What I'm guessing is happen is that there are just fewer Western Off Seasons because it costs a lot of money to ship the field out there. Team density is lower, so it's probably a lot harder (and more expensive) to pull off a Western Off Season compared to here on the East coast, where the fields are nearby and teams are closer.

Don't forget to check http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/res_art4.htm for more events

Needless to say, there will be a few off season events in the West Coast. A couple of places come to mind off the top of my head... San Diego, Southern California... and dare we hope, in the Bay Area  ?

Obviously nothing is solid yet. The details are being hammered out behind the scene, old plans drawn out, pots being set on the stoves once again, but, I think teams should start considering summer work sessions very soon, especially if you want a second robot in a fall event.

Just got off the phone with one of the co-ordinators of Beantown Blitz, hosted by Northeastern Univ in Boston and there are a few openings left for team to register. (One team I know of dropped out because their 'bot got damaged BIG time in their last match in ATL)

May 20, 2006
Mathews Arena, Boston, MA
to attend or volunteer email nubtb06@gmail.com
There is enough room for 42 teams. Spaces still available.

website: http://www.nutrons.neu.edu/btb/

Tentatively scheduled there is time for some mentor matches. When the mentors drive and the drivers coach. Thought it would be a fun twist and to see if the mentors can perform as well as the kids.

Team density in the Bay, LA, and San Diego regions doesn't seem a problem to me....
And the blue/black pins are just NASA sponsored teams, and that's not even the finished product of the map!
