why Afghanistan?

Well pick one:

A.) Because I think Adam is secretly a top government official charged with fighting the war on terror, and his girlfriend is actually a standard CIA-issue surveillance device used to monitor the political propaganda being spread via the Afghani airwaves?

or

B.) Because, much like Guam, it was a random location that is many, many miles of distance away from Adam, and its mention was designed to add to the humor of the joke by implying that Ms. Pebbles must have a substantial set of hardware goin on inside her mouth to pull in stations from that far away?
