We finally found the video for team 987 and 1290 using the 'A-bomb' at the Arizona Regional. A great strategy, but a hard one to pull off, as team 968 did with 195, at the Championiships.

Check it out! (http://www.team987.com/match45.mpg)

Well..

The 'first ever' ball pass-off was performed at Winter Warzone with teams 173 and 195.

The 79 469 222 alliance was tempted to try it, but it really is somewhat pointless with the accuracy our 3 shooters had. 195 on the other hand can't shoot therefor making the strategy plausible. Kudos to all successful and attempted "A-bomb" maneuvers.

I have the odd feeling we'll be seeing this a few times at the off-season competitions.
Now, to see if an alliance actually triest to load eachother via shooters and hoppers. THAT would be cool!

I guess the term 'A-Bomb' has caught on and it's probably too late to change it, but Team 1114 had always referred to this potential play as "Robot Makeout". I think it has a better ring to it.

Was Winter War-zone a scrimmmage, as opposed to a regional, where the outcome of the match determined seeding?

It was indeed an scrimmage. A pre-ship scrimmage to be exact.

And it played exactly like a regional, but compressed into one day because Benge (head of all head refs), and other FIRST officials were there, and they were trying to go through the competition exactly as it would have been played to work out all the kinks before regional time.

I usually called it "Mouth-to-Mouth"

But that works, too :D

With the showing 177's shooter was making during the Championship, we certainly could have done it

We hope to have it tuned back up to goal-scoring condition by Battlecry :D

Watch, next year we will have to pass things to other robots and we call it the "B-Bomb"

Could someone let me know where the term came up?

Because I remember our drivers doing this, but that is not what we called it....

Tom Bottiglieri from 195 and Greg Marra from 177 came up with this(strategy and the term) at the UTC Regional, however we weren't able to pull it off then.

A play called the A-Bomb was drawn up in BAE. I couldn't tell you exactly what it involved, but I don't think the ball pass was part of the original draft.
