Why?
Why do they not want to be good?
They go up 6-2 or 5-2 then blow the game at the end.
Can any one tell me why?

Because they're the Detroit Tigers. No more explanation is necessary.

Because they rely on a 41 year old camera tosser named Kenny Rogers. Who is infamous for his great first half starts and then after the all star break he usually goes about 1-9 or so.

Don't forget outfielder Craig Monroe who a few years ago was arrested for shoplifting a belt at a department store. For the record, he makes 2.8 Million a year in base salary.

The Tigers are getting much better, but they're no playoff team. It's unfortunate the Pale Hosers will win the divison by default. They really arent that great either.

what does their personal lives have to do with it?

Well, it could become a distraction to him/other people on the team. If people bring it up, reporters start asking questions, whatever, it takes his mind even partially off the game. Now, I'm not extremely familiar with Craig Monroe, but he might be one of those guys that needs to be 100% focused on the game.

Also, fans might be more likely to taunt him, which could be a distraction.

The personal lives of players do have an effect on their performance on the field, whether it be something such as shoplifting, girlfriends, death in the family, etc.

TJ should definitly not be the closer. my boy F-ROD (Fernando Rodney) is a very strong pitcher. He has electric stuff and rarely has trouble. I think TJ and Zumaya should setup so they can rest on opposite nites. The starting pitching has been good. They might need to pick someone up for MAroth who might be out the rest of the season. This line up is stacked. Shelton is coming back from his slump finally and if Maglio and Guillen keep playing well they are going to the playoffs. Also, Monroe is having a very interesting season. When they need a hit he is there but most of the other times he is struggling.

I said it was a mistake signing him like that. He had one really good year last year with the Marlins, but thats about it. He ranks up there with bad off season free agent signings, just behind A.J. Burnett's 55 million deal with the Blue Jays. The best thing that could happen to the Blue Jays is if he doesn't ever pitch again and they can have his salary covered as an "insurance loss".

Besides the fact that they are the number on team in basball, absolutely nothing. I am glad that thy are finally having a good season. If only the Braves could stop losing...

Holy cow, the TIGERS are still there. I can't believe it. They are going to make the playoffs, I guarantee it. Since I have been alive the Tigers have yet to make the playoffs.

The White Sox are due for a hot streak. And the Tigers are starting to fade. It's going to be a beautiful September, especially around the 18th-20th. :)

Nah, I think the Twins are due for one ;) . Actually, we're in big trouble now with Liriano and Radke out and Silva not pitching well lately. Our rotation could have four rookies eventually (Baker, Liriano, Bonser and Garza). But hey, I'm not complaining even if we miss the playoffs because it has just been fun watching them win some. No matter what in my mind the season will have been successful.
