Anybody have any advance info on which weeks of the FIRST season the various regionals will be held next year?
I know NJ is in week 1. I am trying to find out which other regions might fit into our game plan for next season so we can budget.
Any "reliable" info appreciated. I know a lot of the regional committees have a good idea of their placement because they have contracted space for the new year.

AFAIK, the Florida Regional at the University of Central Florida is usually not first week. I know 75 is already coming down if it doesn't conflict with NJ, so why don't you bring down 25 to a nice sunny regional with outdoor and indoor pits (they have to aircondition the outdoor pits), and show us southeasterners how its done up in the Mid Atlantic? :)

I'm pretty sure we're planning on a week 1 and a week 3 regional so far. The school probably would not appreciate us missing 2 days of the week two weeks in a row, so that's how we usually plan our season.

UNLESS, we do Week 1, 3, 5 + Nationals; of course that would mean that one of the competitions would have to fall on our Spring Break..but if such perfect timing were to occur I'd imagine Mr. Cokeley would jump on it .

FLR isn't necessarily a week 2 regional, while last year it was the in 2005 is was a week 1 regional. FLR is normally scheduled during the RIT spring break. Assuming that trend is correct (which i believe it is) it puts the regional March 8-10 2007. In this case FLR would be a week 2 regional but you can't count on that from year to year.

I would hold on assuming where regionals are going to be for a little longer. I have seen "sure things" move, and the ones most likely to shake things up sit right where they are.
I've found the closer you are to the official announcement, the more reliable the data. We're still a bit too far out for me to trust information floating around now.
The Bayou Regional will be held in New Orleans LA March 7 -10. This is a new regional and will be held in the New Orleans Convention Center.

Regional plans are for Long Island to be March 29-31, a week later than usual for arena logistical reasons.
But as Jessica implied, until the arena contract has been signed don't book your hotel.

I know vegas it is gonna be the same last weekend of march as usual!
love you and hope to see you there
VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!
Wayne:
Some regionals can be figured out by looking at college spring break schedules. Philly and Chesapeake are always held when Drexel and USNA have their spring breaks. Universitys don't want large events like FIRST going on while class is in session. Therefore I estimated these dates:
3/14 - 3/17---Chesapeake Regional, US Naval Academy (Tentative)
3/29 to 3/31---Philadelphia Regional, Drexel University (Tentative)
Boilermaker is Week 3 again. Purdue's spring break.
As others have noted, unless someone (like a committee member) has confirmed information based on signed contracts, the current plans for regionals may still move. As of June there was still a lot of movement possible in the schedule.

I meant that it is a week 2 regional for 07, not that it always is :yikes:

Come on over... us Floridians would love to play with great teams like you.

Peachtree tends to be the third week but it might change this year.

Sorry about that, 75 is considering attending the regional, no decisions have been made yet. We must examine our finances and schedule, and team preferences before we can make that decision.
But Florida would be fun  ... or any regional for that matter

Sources have it that Palmetto will once again happen on Week 5 in 2007, March 29-31. Still at the Colonial Center, still (in my opinion) the best regional in the South (sorry, Floridians ;)), still anticipating a mess of Jersey teams (who seem to do well at Palmetto, see also 11 and 1676), and still waiting on some Canadians to cross the border and come get some sweet tea and pulled pork ;).

The largest and best, Canada's Super Regional is always week 5. I believe that all Canadian teams seem to go to the GTR. You know what I say is true if you watched this years web cast.

Any word on when the schedule of regionals and other deadlines will be announced?
Our mentors are meeting tonight to discuss plans for the year. Last year at this time we had not only the general schedule, but the actual regional schedule as well. This year at the same time, we have neither :( .
From Chief Delphi and other sources I believe that:
Registration deadlines, kickoff, and ship date will be similar to previous years.
Regionals are Week 1: March 1-3 through Week 5: March 29-31 (NYC and Israel will probably vary from the Thu-Sat schedule)
Championship is April 12-14 in Atlanta.
Of the Midwest regionals Boilermaker is week 3 and West Michigan will likely be week 5.
Any word on Midwest, Milwaukee, Great Lakes, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis?

Received this email today from Ian McEwan, FIRST Regional Director:
Mark, the 'list' is available, last year plus Kansas City, New Orleans
and San Diego. But I suspect that you mean when will the dates be
available?
That will be next week. We have two contracts from venues we still have
to receive so that we are absolutely sure and then we will post them.

When was this discussed? This is awesome.

I'm watching Spike Lee's very powerful documentary on hurricane Katrina an dit's aftermath and reading numerous stories on the excrutiating slow recovery.
How in the world is New Orleans going to be ready to host a robotics region when only 29% of it's school are open and so many neighborhood are still piles of rubble?

Well, you've got to start somewhere. Perhaps robotics is where.

By the blood, sweat & tears of some dedicated people? I have to admire the folks in New Orleans and at Tulane [their site] (http://www.tulane.edu/~first_la/FRC/FRC-LA%20index.htm) who are rebuilding their city and school and putting the Bayou Regional together. It seems to me to be the kind of uplifting event the city needs. The tourism revenue probably doesn't hurt, either!
Hmm... two weeks after Mardi Gras - there should still be plenty of beads decorating the trees!

For 2007, St. Louis will be Week 1, March 1-3.
I've also heard that New Jersey, NASA/VCU, BAE/GSR, and possibly Pacific Northwest will be Week 1 -- those were the Week 1 events in 2006.

New York City Regional at the Javits Convention Center:
March 16th (Friday), March 17th (Saturday), and March 18th (Sunday)

It should be amazing! Please, seriously consider coming to NYC! If it's successful, we may even go for a two-field mega-regional in 2008.
Chesapeake Regional, (the bring your own food, the prettiest view at a robotics venue, the only regional held on a military installation, and last year was nicknamed the "jet lag regional"...where the navy guards actually crack a smile each time they look at my "friends of the Academy pass" which has my car tag listed and say "Have a good day robomom, m’am)
Week 3
March 15-17, 2006
Annapolis, Maryland at the US Naval Academy
64 teams

The dates seem to be posted:

Some of the data suggests it's still work-in-progress at this time, though. The Bayou regional is listed to be in Manchester and Waterloo is running March 22-29.
Alright! No Buckeye in week 2!
Now maybe FLR can get a few more teams.

As mentioned in another thread, the dates on the FIRST page ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE , so please check back frequently and do not rely on them for planning. While some dates may be correct, not all of them are. Also, many team capacities, and even one location (unless there really is a Bayou in New Hampshire) are incorrect at the moment as well.
