During our second trip to Steak n' Shake, I accidently found the secret shake not on the menu.
Next time you go, order a blueberry shake.

The closest one to me would be in Western Pennsylvania. There was nothing within 100 miles of my zip code 06795.

I've never been to one. How does it compare to an Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday or The "99"?

This is just me, but in the movie, Cars, in the downtown segments, it 'felt' like the SteaknShake I loved. I don't know Ruby Tuesday or the "99" but for me, there is no comparison.

SteaknShake on a beautiful fall day, angora sweater, saddle oxfords. Yup.

You should have seen the waitrees's face when I asked her if they had Frappes there. I guess you have to be from New England to find that funny.

As for comparison...I actually see steak and shake like a Friendly's. The shakes are phenomonal and the food is good, but not expensive.

A frappe (http://www.google.com/search?hs=46s&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=define%3Afrappe&btnG=Search) is like a milkshake...but it's really just liquid poured over crushed ice. Milk and ice cream are not necessary, but if there, it tends to be thicker than a milkshake.

SteaknShake was absolutely amazing. They definitely need to look into opening them in New England.

And wow, do I look ridiculous in that pic.

But it's not just crushed ice, but I do think the best crushed ice I've ever had was in Indiana (Cone Palace in Kokomo)

Isn't Frappe the essential part of Starbucks FrappuccinoŽ?

Daisy

The original frappe is the "greek frappe": basically coffee put in a blender, and poured over ice.

Why does this thread have to come up and remind me of one of the great food places I'm missing out here?

This, right beneath Hardee's, is what I think they need to start building out here in Phoenix immediately.

For now I'll just remember the taste of the milkshakes.

Seriously, our two trips to the Steak N Shakes were phenomenal. I gained atleast 2 lbs per shake, and they were worth every ounce of fat.

Arizona already has Carls Jr. It's practically the same as Hardees, minus a couple menu items.

The evil twin to the Fribble and cousin to the Frappe is the Awful-Awful (http://www.quahog.org/cuisine/index.php?id=9) .

Pure New England head freeze.

My sister kept talking about awful-awfuls and how wonderful they were when i was out in providence last week, and i must say i wasn't to impressed with them.

Although we did go get icecream everyday i was in RI, i never did stop laughing at the menus when it said "cabinets" or heard someone order a cabinet instead of a milkshake....silly new englanders.

If you happen to find yourself in Rage (173) territory, you want to go to the Shady Glen (http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/whereweeat/stern_cheeseburgerheaven.html). The BEST ice cream around. The Shady Glen is also famous for cooking the cheese for the cheeseburgers separately from the burger. Strange but delicious.

Wait, I'm so confused. Who ordered "cabinets". And what the heck is a cabinet when used in those terms??
I'm New England born and raised all my life, and to me cabinets are either the stuff you keep glasses/plates in or parts of an organization.

Hardee's > Carl's Jr. At least to me.

Wow, I think we could have the best buffet in the world if we got all the teams in FIRST to bring something from their town to the Championship.

My boss if from RI and I hear him mentioned 'cabinets' all the time. I'm pretty sure it's RI only. Can we get a ruling from any 121 or other RI team members?

Every time we eat at Shady Glen we think of John... they go through over 5 lbs of hand-cut cheddar each half hour during busy Saturday lunchtime- well over 250 lbs a week. Many people just order the cheese as a side (even for breakfast!).
Also a great place for home-made ice cream - We-Lik-It in Abington (Pomfret), CT. Try their Cape Cod ice cream - vanilla with chunks of white chocolate and cranberries! YUM!

If planning a road trip, check out www.roadfood.com before you go for the best in local cuisine!

Dude I ate at Carl's Jr, in Saltillo freakin Mexico, and it still kicked the pants off of Wendy's or any other place we have up north. We need one of those in Warren (to go along with the Steak and Shake - muahahahaha we are blessed).

I'm sorry but those don't look in the least appetizing at all. But here in the QC it's all about the pizza. Harris Pizza, Bad Boys, Uncle Bills (5lbs all homemade even the beef), Happy Joes, Benny's, and numerous other hole-in-the-wall pizza joints that make awesome pizza.

But then, if you're ever in the Quad Cities you have to try The Grinders and Spaghetti House. OMG... best pasta ever. And their cinnamon bread is awesome as well. Stop by Harris Pizza, too.

I've never heard of "Steak and Shake" before until I was watching a NASCAR event and it was the "Steak and Shake 250". At first I thought it was some dirty innuendo, but only to be wrong and turned out to be a restaurant.
Personally out here, we have Applebees, 99, Ruby Tuesdays, Texas Roadhouse, Carrabbas, Unos, Chilis, and Shortys Mexican Roadhouse.

I <3 milkshakes/frappes and would love to try one of these famous shakes.

PS. Elgin, they're subs...as in submarines.

I like Steak and Shake, at least the few times I have been to one, but that was a long time ago. The things you experience when your parents force you on a month long tour of the US and then do it again the next year. Although I have only not been to 13 states, so I guess I am lucky in that regard.

Our team had a BAD experience with a Stake and Shake.
It was our rookie year (Team 535) and we were going to our first regional at Grand Rapids (WMR).
We didn't have the money to stay Wednesday night so we decided to drive up Thursday morning.
On the way we stopped at Stake and Shake for breakfast. They had only one waitress and one cook. We were there almost three hours waiting for our food and trying to sort out the bills :ahh:
Now it's a running joke when we are going to regionals to say "Lets stop at a Stake and Shake for breakfast".
BTW we finished second at WMR that year. Thanks Team 111.
