All I get is the little spiderweb in the upper corner and nothing else.

I don't think 188 will be there but i will see them at Wonderland in a week and a half. As for 1114 I believe it is still being discussed. I did not spend long talking with Karthik as he was preparing for the VEX kickoff today.

1213 will be there to defend our title. At least our robot, a coach, and a referee will be making the trip. Once again this year, don't be alarmed if you hear reports of a kidnapping at the local H.S. - we'll give them back. :) :)

All, Hold Tight! My apologies on the site being down in IE. As many have mentioned it is viewable in firefox, so use that for now. The transition is being made over the the 1511 site, and we will try and fix the IE bug in the process. I will post here when it is all done, hopefully this weekend!!

ARRRGH! No Serpintine draft!

Kims Robot
18-09-2006, 22:30
I dont think we formally published the draft style ahead of time last year.... but last year it was straight serpentine, no picking. It seemed to make for some interesting battles, so it will be likely considered again!

We like the focus at Ruckus to be on training new team members and exposing rookies to the game, so we try not to make it so cutthroat :) Plus picking sucks up at least a half an hour of pie in the face!!

1 9 24
2 10 23

6 14 19

I had a new idea for a fundraiser.
It's call Fantasy FIRST Raffle.
For one dollar you can pick the three teams. The teams with the best point total wins the pot. The tiebreaker is the total points scored by both alliances in the final match.

Kims Robot
19-09-2006, 22:24
Steve, Yes the pie in the face will return!! But this time it will be done between finals to make it even more exciting!!

Ed, yes the straight serpentine works like that... but question on your fundraiser... if you get to pick 3 teams, doesnt that mean we would only make $8 if we have 24 teams?? Or do different combinations count? Or is it 24 choose 3, so more like $2,024?

Koko Ed

I don't know about anyone else, but if we get enough teams I'd love to see an actual draft. If we want to train rookie teams and rookie members, why not teach them good scouting strategies early in the season?

I would have to agree with Jay. This of course all depends on the amount of teams coming but it wuold be a good learning experience for the younger students/rookies.

Update on Ruckus!!

We look to have 30 volunteers registered... 20 more free tshirts & food to go!! And for a little friendly competition 1511 is leading the pack of volunteers, 1126 close at its heals, and one or two from several other teams. Keep recruiting your friends & team members! (remember, walkins that day will likely not get shirts or choice of position, so register early!)

It looks like we may have 20 teams now, there are 4 that we know of that have not registered, but are planning on coming. We look forward to the rebirth of Team 73 & we now have 1503 and 1213 coming from out out state! 4 more teams for an even 24 if anyone else wants to come!

Many thanks to Jack of 1213 for bringing the robot all the way out for the new rookie team at HFL!!

So its almost here! Start gathering your tools, your creative costumes, your dodgeball teams, your dollar bills to pie famous FIRSTers! This definitely has the makings of one awesome event!

Sweeeeeeet!

Koko Ed

You mean seeded picking.
Like this:
For a 24 team event:
1 9 24
2 10 23
3 11 22
4 12 21
5 13 20
6 14 19
7 15 18
8 16 17
So if we take the top 24 from FLR and spread them out as so the alliances would look like this:
1126 271 1567
191 250 1713
378 340 1585
188 1930 1511
578 84 145
229 1518 1405
1901 1591 1551
1559 467 639

Geez the top 2 alliances still look similar (take 229 for 271 and that's not too big a drop off. 229 has better offensive capabilities but 271 is a mean defensive robot. 211 is better than 1713 but 1713 was serviceable).

Alex Cormier
14-10-2006, 15:55
DIfferent combos .Yeah , I know everyone will pick 1126, 229 and 1213 but will they get the point total in the end?

By guessing the final total points of the last match (or I could have them decide the overall amount of points scored in the final. That might be more fun. Will it go 2 or 3 matches? I so love messin' everyone's program up!http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/edoom/downloading.gif )

yeah for progress!

I remember doing expo matches at the Monroe County Fairgrounds in Rochester

with three whole teams: Kodak, Xerox X-cats, and Gleason/Fairport (maybe four, the original team 73 Edison/Harris?)

I think 18 teams at a one day off season event is excellent!

It was a lot of fun

it was also a lot of work, for individual teams to set up our homemade fields

to have people there 5 or 6 hours a day for 3 or 4 days

and it was almost impossible to have real matches - most of the time we showed off the robots functions and talked to people about FIRST

I think the Ruckus is a big step up, much more impressive for potential sponsors, schools, and new students to get a taste of what FIRST is like.

Lego demo's? Like worthy enough to bring a teacher and a few students up?

I know there are atleast 2 teams not on the site, team 340 (2) and the new team from Honeoye Falls.
I thought HFLs team was getting 1213s robot.
And where's 1591?

HFL is getting 1213's second robot

as for 1591, nobody knows...if they don't compete that is probably the robot that 73 will use.

Not quite - we didn't build a second robot this year. We just stripped one of the '05 bots down to the frame and drive train, mounted a gun and camera, and used it as a test bed. So, HFL will be driving our competition bot.

768 had admin issues and an event in maryland for a potential sponsor on friday.

not sure what is going on with 1591 (thought that was school without walls for some reason)

as for school without walls, noboy knows and that might be the robot 73 might be using.

Nothing like waiting to the last minute right? :D

Our teams' plan right now is that we are going, unsure of why our team leader hasn't registered us yet. Ive been trying to contact our team leader about registering.....but we are planning on coming at this time.

See you all there ;)

Please tell your teacher to register ASAP. Since there is only 1 week left till the event it is important for us to know if you want to be included in the printed programs, and with the layouts for the pits....either way get registered ASAP.

setup tomorrow is 3-11. We will be setting up the field, a/v, pits, etc. We already have more than enough volunteers so if you can't come thats fine. However, there is a volunteer meeting at 6 tomorrow, I would suggest you go to that. Volunteer registration is closed, so signing up really won't do anything.

So far tonight was great just helping setup and get 2 good rounds of practice in. Already got help from several teams there on getting the bot to work, and now it seems to be in better condition than FLR this past year. VEX bots look good of what ones I saw there, which reminds me, I should go back to working on mine. See you all tomorrow bright and early.

Ahh... so much smoother than last year :) (so far at least)

The entire venue is ready to role!!

I have to say, this is definitely one of the most impressive A/V setups I have ever seen!! Two giant screens behind the scoring, a camera shot from way above, video and audio piped into every TV in the school, a Giant screen (of live competition feed) & two thousand watt speakers for Pit Admin!! I wish I had photos from the gym setup... but I guess I got too wrapped up!

See you all there in a few hours!! :)

The ruckus was a great event! We are so thankfull you guys decided to take on the challenge to put on this event the team president and I know there was so much involved in the planning.
The ruckus also took place at a great time of the year it helped our team truely show some of the unsure members that a FIRST robotics competition can be a extremely high spirited event, giving everyone of the new members hands on experience helped too! They are all looking forward to the 6 week build season at Gleason Works as well as the Finger Lakes and Philidelphia Regional that will follow.
Thanks from putting on a great event once again

From,
Team 578!

RhaChaCha was a fun event for the second year in a row. Everyone involved did a great job in making it more of a "happening" than the usual off-season robotics competition.

My son and I enjoyed working with the pre-rookie team from HFL. They came a long way in just a few hours and managed to keep 1213's robot running strong. Their composure under match pressure, I'm afraid, is going to take a while longer to develop, but we all know that's the hardest part. Their teaching mentor, Dave Ghidiu, was awesome. The kids were flush with excitement about the program. Look for the team from HFL to have an excellent rookie year, with many more successful years to follow.

That is great to hear and i am very proud of the Ruckus committee and having it being held at Webster this year. That was a dream of mine from Day one of robotics and it came true.

I love to see rookies come in at offseasons and enjoy what they see and reflect upon it and see how well they do in the year.

I brought a classmate form school down and he was very excited and also had a great time. We will only be doing FVC this year, hopefully next year or years down the road Alfred State will bump up from FLL and FVC to FRC.

Ehh we like to do things differently :) Theoretically that should make competition tougher. 6 & 7 are likely a lot more closely matched than 7 & 2. It was done that way last year as well. We do the offseason more for practice for the teams and their rookie members than for the actual competition itself. Its meant to be more fun and less stressful. There were still some awesome matches, but it makes the competition more even.

For all that attended... we will be updating the website in the next week or so with results and information, as well as asking for feedback on how to make next year even better!! We also have a few shirts left that we will put up for paypal buys if anyone is interested.

So thanks to everyone who came, and most especially thanks to all of our volunteers & pie recipeints. The competition this year was amazing and full of true GP!!

I want to give special thanks to 1503 for donating some volunteers last minute, coming so far & for being a great addition to our great list of teams. Thanks to Jack & 1213 for brining their robot for Rochesters newest rookie team! And I cant thank 1126 enough for being amazing hosts and for all their help with setup & teardown. You guys were awesome! And thanks to my team, 90% of them volunteered, and you guys really helped make this event happen!

And last I need to thank some special people. We can't thank Mike Wade enough for all the work with the NASA field, it worked out better than we could have hoped, and Mike was there for us the whole way along. What a class act!! (not to mention awesome trailer!) Thanks to Steve W for coming all the way from the great white north and training a new MC (we hope Angry Eric made you proud!). Thank you to all the members of the Ruckus committee, you are a great group to work with, and you make this event better every year!! And last but not least, special thanks to Bob Schlaegel of 1126, without him, we might not have had the awesome venue we did, and things definitely wouldnt have run as smoothly!

Ok ok... enough of my rambling. I know there are lots of people Im sure I forgot... but thanks to everyone that came, it was a great event this year!! Rah Cha Cha truely Rocks!! :)

See you all at FLR!

I'd like to add a second thank you to Steve, both for coming down here and his words of advice after the event was over. Your honest and constructive feedback was greatly appreciated, it was a great honor getting to work with one of the best announcers I've seen in FIRST.

Hope the drive back home Saturday night was quick and uneventful ;)

The pleasure was all mine. Ruckus is a great bridge to the upcoming season. Great teams, great people and great fun. For those that have not attended you are really missing out. I find it an honor to be asked to help out. Rochester is a vibrant growing area with all of the best qualities that can be found in FIRST. The teams there work together to produce awareness in the community and spirit that can be felt when you are around them.

Congratulations to the event team on another wonderful event. A special thanks to Greg for setting up the VEX demo competition. It gave us all a chance to work on VEX and see what a wonderful product that it is. Also Greg, thanks for being gentle with the pie and kudos to Ed for passing up his tickets twice to allow Greg to punish me.

As for the MC, what can I say. I see great possibilities for the Angry One. He will continue to improve and I will soon be pushed out of a job. Great working with you.
