View Full Version : 2006 Compiler
Hi everyone. Once our team started preparing for the few upcoming off-season competitions that are coming up in the near future we got a new laptop. Unfortunatly for us, we do not have the disc for this years MpLAB and compiler only last years. So of course we cannot work on any kind of programming. We would greatly appreciate it if someone could share with us the Compiler for this year, or offer any other kind of solution we can use. Thank you in advance.

You can download a compiler from http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1406&dDocName=en010014&part=SW006011 that is fully-featured for 30 days, then some features are taken away, but it is still usable. (Student Edition)
Thank you, you are such a life saver. I think its 60 days instead of 30 which is even better. I think this should last us all the wya through our off season competitions. Once again, thank you so much. :D

AHHH!!!! Be careful downloading the version of the compiler available on Microchip's site. Hopefully Dave Flowerday can explain this fully in the near futre, or Kevin Watson, but the newest version of the compiler and C18 do not compile the code as I remember. If you've got the time, you might as well try before the calvary arrives with the definite answer, but I'm pretty sure about it.
Ahh I see. In order to get the code compiled correctly I need MpLAB 7.2 (not higher) and C18 Compiler version 2.4 (3.0 currently). So I guess I am in trouble. I have the CD for MpLAB 6. something, but as for the compiler I dont have the CD and I dont really know where to find it.
BTW, I seem to have the copied files from a working MCC18 Directory, would those work if I just overwrite my current directory and try to compile?
UPDATE : I got the correct versions of some websites, thanks guys for all your help it is greatly appreciated.

Possibly, I think C18 just works by putting compiling info into the correct directories, not as an application extension, so if you cross all your i's and dot all your t's you should be in business. Or not, maybe you'll just end up with a smoking hulk of an MPLab... Ever the optimist...
I was actually doing some offseason code today since I had the compiler CD mailed to me from a teammate. If you still need it PM me and ill post it online and give you a download link.

I'm pretty sure that the 2005 disc will work. (I'm still using the 2005 downloaded compiling, the full one Microchip let us have.)
The version of MPLAB, I'm guessing, matters much less than the version of MCC18, which must be 2.4. (Correct me if I'm wrong; I've been using Eclipse.)
GUYS CAREFUL!!! The 18F8722 (and other processors in the line) have silicon issues which are scheduled to be corrected this winter.
The compilers will definitely be different for next year so don't worry about that.... as for the off season... there are no real standards when it comes to compilers... so even though they should be all interoperable they usually aren't. The '05 compiler *PROBABLY* will work since i don't think the MCC changed much since then. I think the IDE will look different but other than that it should be similar. You'll just have to try and see.

actually... mcc18, the linker and compiler, is the business end of the whole mess. MPLAB specifically is just the IDE.
microchip's development tools can be a little touchy, so you just have to be careful and experiment. for instance, the ICD2... but that's another can of worms. :o

Yes. Its is 2.4
Like I said, I have the 2006 disc if you want me to post all the contents of it or an ISO i can.

Please do not do this. See this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32453) for the reasons why.
