I'm comming (and the X-Cats too :D ).
Ah, duh it's FIRST of course I'm excited (in my vulcan kind of way)
Too early to pick since there has been no game released yet, we don't have any idea who the competitiors are and the teams don't even know what students or mentors are on the team so this one will be a little later for an answer.

On behalf of 340 we are all very excited! We can not wait for the 2007 year. After coming off of a great, fun year in Aim High, we are in high expectations! See you all there! -- And hopefully at Ruckus before then!
1930 will will be there without a doubt. We should be registering for tomorrow. Majorly excited about this year.

The teams in the Finger Lakes area as well as some teams from other States and Canada descended upon Rochester over Halloween weekend for the RaChaCha Ruckus event. (http://ruckus.penfieldrobotics.com)
If those teams are any indicator, the upcoming Finger Lakes Regional in March 2007 will be a real BLAST.
Congrats to the RaChaCha ruckus committee and onwards to 2007!

Finger Lakes regional happens to fall on my spring break this year, if any teams are going and have extra hotel space or any one else is heading up teamless and would like to share a room let me know, I would love to go but it would be too expensive to stay in a room my self.
Also if any teams would like an extra set of hands let me know, otherwise I think I will be volunteering.

Wow, 365 and 191 at the same competition. From what I understand about the levels of spirit from these two teams, it's gonna be close.

The X-cats are always a fun team to have at an event, and they seem to have a never-ending conga-line going. Too bad they can't distribute their "cat food" anymore.
Finger Lakes will be a new venue for us, but from the reports we hear it is one rockin' regional! March 7th can't arrive too early!

Question, why is my lovely bot 'Rover' classified as defensive? I mean we had a round or two where our compresser went blah, but I thought everyone saw us pwning those plastic tubes at the rally. Just wondering if thats supposed to be some sort of jab or if it was just a miscalculation or whathaveyou.
haha, I just realized that the only ramp score at the rally was CougarTech on Devil Tech.

I am sure that it was by no means an intentional jab against your team. probably just a mis-interpretation of the picture by someone who did not attend the rally. An intentional jab would be very ungracious and unacceptable.
All right, cut it out. I feel bad enough that I can't come and you keep going on about how it will be better than ever.
I know that all who attend will have a great time. If you have never been to FLR then you should at least stop by and see for yourself. Just tell them Steve sent you .................then RUN!!!!!!

Yeah, that's what I figured. It just seemed really weird to me for us to be classified as defensive.
Steve,
We'll all definitely miss the voice of the FLR & Ruckus this time around. We'll hopefully see you and your team come fall for some more pumpkin fun!

Craig,
You guys at HFL had a great show for your rookie year so far... Wait till the actual competition and witness the great FIRST community we have here in at the FLR. We're not the largest Regional but From my past 8 years the smaller ones are the most fun but very fast paced.
See you guys in few days...

I happen to be a personal friend of one of your sponsors actually. (find me at FLR and I'll fill you in.) The fact of the matter is I have not had a spare moment to watch any of the rally video, or any of the web casts from the past weekend, or even any of the other early scrimmages. I actually saw my first full match of Rack'n Roll about 45 minutes ago. I have only seen the pictures of your robot that are currently uploaded on that page. I thought I detected a gripper, but was unsure.
I can't wait to get around to your pit on Thursday in order to see this machine up close.
Anybody up for some Laserquest after the Thursday practice rounds?
Is that similar to what they do (did? I don't know if it is still open) at Lasertron in Buffalo? If so... you can probably count me in.

Two level maze with participants wearing vests with sensors with a laser gun attached to it. 20 minute time limit per game. Free for with the occasional (if requested) organised game like Vampire, Capture the flag or Star Wars: Assault on the Death Star.

Laser Quest would be sweet! Count me in as long as I can get a ride from someone on my team.
You just keep enticing me. Laser Quest is one of the games I love. Played as many as 12 games in one night (when I was a bit younger). Played on the Scarborough team against other locations. How about for Rukus?????

You might want to make sure since I hear they are getting more strict on safety glasses and the fancy sunglass ones may not be valid according to one of the latest updates sent out.

I went to buy a lottery ticket at the 7-11 by my house last night for the 370 million dollar jackpot, and a news crew was there interviewing people. I got interviewed but didn't even know I was actually on the news until a couple people said they saw it.
one even felt it was required to send the link to the whole team.

Wow, tomorrow is going to be great. There are some really nice robots here, and I can't wait to see how things work out in the qualification rounds.
Some of my favourite bots from today:
354
229
1126
365
174
191
2228
We (772) had to remove the claw on our arm since it put our robot outside of the 72"x72" bounds with the ramps deployed, and because the joint couldn't handle being hit by other robots. It has forced us to play the game differently, and led us to playing a practice match we aren't too proud of (MOE 365 - we really apologize for being overly aggressive in that last match). We do hope to put the manipulator back on for our next competition.
Anyways, best of luck to everyone tomorrow.

I was happy we worked. Well, up until the end with that whole fiasco, but we work again, all is well.
And our camera/sensor works now, that means maybe an actual auto mode.
I thought today went very well. We ran into some situations with the robot, but its all good now. Cant wait till tomorrow, if I wast so tiered from laserquest I would already be feeling the energy.

Hey all!
We over at team 870 are going to debut our electronic scouting system tomorrow (or I suppose it's technically today)...
All hail Fluffy Network!
However, we're about three laptops short of a full cadre...and are looking for a partner team to help us out with scouting manpower, and three computers in return for access to our scouting database...
The Fluffy Network "Named after our fur-covered router" is comprised of:
-Filemaker 8.5 Database served wirelessly from the pit
-HTML photo gallery of the robots (i still have a few pictures to take tomorrow)
-Stands/Pit communications via LAN messaging
anyone want to join in the Fluff?
Good lUCk today - I'll see you on the field!!! Time to go now to check in!

I think that was the story of half the teams at FLR. I can't recall so many teams spending the practice day working on the robot. At least 229 made it out of the pits once. Alot of robots we still have yet to see.

That happened in New Jersey also. It's too bad that teams are not getting the practice time. This is much different game with 6 robots on the field.

I really want to know whats going on, how are the matches going? who's looking good?
Yea me too. How are 1126, 1511 and 229 doing?
It was definitely an exciting day for qualifying matches. Many teams looked totally different after the practice day since we gave out alot of practice matches for this event. Many teams realized that their original setup either didn't work or was not robust enough.
There is a core group that sticks out in my mine watching from the sideline as MC.
316 - Lunatecs - Awesome robust lift system
365 - Moe - Removed their ramp completely and is a quick scorer. Also has good auto mode.
1126 - SparX Great autonomous and controls (well deserved since it's done by one of the best controls engineers at Xerox) They beefed up their gripper since it ripped off 2x.
191 - X-CATS - Very Fast scorer with a very robust machine with one of the highest scores of the regional so far. (They did an awesome job without my wife and I on the team this year.)
229 - Division by Zero - Nice manipulator and drive system but I have yet to see them deploy their new ramps that they built from scrath the last day.
467 - Awesome drives system and nice ramp
2228 - CougarTech - by far one of the best bots by a rookie team - I can't say enough about them, very organized and great team in general.
The one thing I still never understand how some teams never play certain teams all weekend long?
But all in all the performance of all teams were amazing to see it's still fair game to anyone - looking at the rankings alot fo good teams don't get the recognition they deserve for the output of a poor alliance matching.
Our team is really happy that we won the Imagery Award with our Alice and Wonderland theme. That really made our day. We are on the slower side of loading, but getting them is is extremely easy. The team social was great tonight. The food, comedian was good, and I know know what songs I never want to hear again sung at karaokes in FIRST in Rochester. Tomorrow is the last day:-( Luck all!
Hey all,
How is the team from Long Island doing? Team Rice 870?
Good Luck to all of you and please Wish them luck from Longwood.
I hope this gets to them :)
Thanks

WOW what an amazing day for our team. For those of you not at the competition, our alliance (#7 - 1728, 1405, 772) was made up entirely of defensive/ramp robots who could not score ringers. That we even won a single match was incredible for us (let alone making it to the semi finals!!). I'd like to REALLY thank 1728 and 1405 for picking us, as we had so many problems with our robot over the past couple days. We all feel extremely fortunate.
Congratulations to all of the winners and competitors (esp. 1511 for their Chairman's award). I'm not sure I have seen so many underdogs win in elimation matches in a single competition; it made for some extremely exciting matches.
Also thanks to everyone who cheered with us, it was great fun! (sorry to the person on 1126 who I hit with the GM flag a few times while waving it! Haha!)

Congratulations to the winners and all the teams this weekend. I was just happy to make this event fun and exciting for you all being that this was my first time MC'ing and event. Our extreme leap of membership brought on that problem, the way to combat it is to set up a meeting with a particular group of companies. The truth is if you get the meeting with a company that the students on your team are the main presentors you allmost always walk out with something.

1511 worked very hard this year you were all very deticated over the summer doing over 40 public demonstrations. (we were only able to do 21 things) And the ruckus was a lot of hard work to put together we witnessed it.

A Huge thanks and congrats to teams 1713 and 1450 for being awesome alliance partners and helping us bring home the gold. We couldn't have done it without you. See you in Atlanta!
I will say congrats to all winners of any other awards at any competiton, because you guys deserve it. But even those who didn't deserve a HUGE round of applause for just making it to the competitions and being able to watch your robot. We all know this is a hard challenge but we all did it! Just remember its not how good your robot does but how much closer you become not only with your team but others as well
Special thanks to the X-Cats (191) for cheering with us during finals. That helped more than you know!

Hot off the press! - to clarify a rumor.
I have confirmation today that Xerox will provide alittle $ & Mentoring assistance to Team #2228 CougarTech HFL this year for them to go to Atlanta.
Hopefully this partnership will expand in the near future.
I will be coming down with some of the other Xerox FIRST team mentors and students to provide some input at one of your team meetings. (Someone will tell me when that is hopefully)
Remember feel free to contact me for any info your team may need. I look forward to working with your team.

2228 was the best bot out of the box on Thursday, and played unlike their rookie status.
You will be a great addition to the Championship teams. Hopefully we will end up in the same division and get to root each other on again!
Go Cougar-Tech!!!

Congrats, Xerox picked a great team to back. You guys built a great bot and I am glad we had you as alliance partners. See you in Atlanta!

Xerox hasn't officially picked them up yet. They're just paying thier way to go down to Atlanta.
They did the same for Division by Zero a couple of years ago when they had qualified and believe me, they are not changing their name to Division by X.

Yeah, no jumping to conclusions now. It's really cool that Xerox is gonna help us out, but that doesn't mean they are gonna pick us up. That would be sweet, but it hasn't happened.

We're SO graciously grateful for Xerox's decision to help us get down to Atlanta, as has ALSTOM in another big way, significantly offseting our team member's cost to 28 hr train trip on down to Atlanta & hotel (all happened this week)! INCREDIBLE!! :D Icuiti, Guida's Pizza, Simcona, SouthCo and others believed in us before we even gel-ed as a team...and this was AWESOME! :D
See CougarTech2228.com for team shots, as we'll be uploading more pix, soon!
Our team's spirit is backed by the spirit of our super sponsors, peer teams, school district, family and friends...giving our rookie team some serious strength to continue to believe in ourselves!! We are SO PSYCHED!
I've pinged Ellery, and we hope to have him as a guest at a team meeting, real soon!!
(wait till you guys see the cool robotic goodies we have to give-away!!)

Please no team bashing. MOE is a great team and was an awesome addition to FLR this year. Remember that everything you say on Chief Delphi reflects on yourself, your team, and the FIRST community as a whole. Just try to keep that in mind. Thanks.

Also, i'd look into purchasing a dictionary.

It's true that MOE is known for building incredible robots. However, it's not much in the spirit of FIRST to accuse them of having it professionally built. And as far as Team 365 being rich, maybe they do really great fundraising. Even better, maybe the team has sponsors that can see the benefit of FIRST and are willing to contribute great help. In the future, you might want to know the whole story about a team before making such terrible assumptions about the way it operates. Good luck at Philly by the way, I hope it's as great as last year, perhaps even better.

Do not ever disrepsect a team on CD. This boes badly for you, your team, and everyone associated with your team.
MOE is one of the best teams in FIRST. just look at there accomplishments.

Ever think of this? Some teams do it? I don't know if they do professionally build it, but isn't the kids building the robot professionally done. I mean who better to build a robot than a bunch of people who have been in FIRST for a while?
Come on I can name 300 teams easy that LOOK like they are professionally done but you haven't called those teams out.
But look this is a place for growth and learning. Not a place for someone to make a personal grudge known to all. If you have an issue with a team please keep it to yourself. No one on here wants to hear about it. Once again it is making you, your team and your sponsors look bad.

Does it even matter? Sure the competitions are important, but they are about something completely different. At the end of the day it doesn't matter whether or not you won or lost(well its nice to win but read on). That's not what FIRST is about. It's about people coming together from all over the world for a great cause. It is our job to spread the word of FIRST, not to win the competitions. When you really get down to it, we are all one big team.
Also to reiterate what the people above me said, don't bash any team ever. Thanks.
yeah okay. ever think of this they have a proffesional build it
Please.
Just stop it.
I don't know what your issue is with MOE but there is no reason whatsoever for you to personally attack another team for any reason.
If your issues with MOE really runs that deep then take it up with them face to face in Phili but what you are doing is causing your team undue strife with team 365 for whatever personal reasons drive you, probrably without their consent plus you are hijacking a thread, which is a bannable offense here. Therefore cease and desist this behavior immediately please.

Folks:
I am Team Coordinator for MOE 365 and had originally not planned to respond to the comments made here. I would hope that, as previously suggested, this thread get back to it's original topic intent.
For information, I have offered to the original poster that I would gladly make myself available to her and any team members to explain how we handle the build season. I will answer any question to the best of my ability.
So, let's move on and get back to our originally scheduled CD thread... :D

I will be there Ed!! and i will be on that planning committee!!! and i am attempting to recruit teams to come out and play!!!
As a member of MOE 365 I would like to thank all of you for the kind words about MOE and for sticking up for us.
kathimm1 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/member.php?u=18172), Yes MOE dose build a very high quality robot each year, this is due to having a very high quality team. Each MOE student starts our team in Sept and from then to December each student goes through MOE University (http://moe365.org/moeu.php). This is where each student is trained in Mechanical, Electrical,Programing, Fund raising, Brainstorming, Web site development, Team Building activities, Proper and safe use of hand tools, machine tools and general safety in a work place and FIRST environment. Each class/ session is taught by professional engineers, teachers and other professionals in their respected fields.
This is how MOE is able to build a quality, and nice looking, robot each year.
You also mentioned out Pit. The MOE pit was build and developed in 2001-2002 and has since then has had minor additions and subtractions to it each year. The pit was build and designed by students, I can personal attest to this because I spend my 2002-2003 winter break helping rebuild parts of it. Just because MOE has a nice looking pit dose not mean we are "rich" most all of the materials for the pit and in the pit were donated by members, families and our sponsors.
MOE is a large team with about 30 students average each year and about 10-15 mentors from engineers to our boosters (http://moe365.org/boosters.php). Most of the adults on our team are parents or current students or alumni who come back to help the next generation of MOE students.
I am sorry if you find our team annoying, We wear bright MOE GREEN jerseys to let people know that we are there and having FUN. MOE loves to Cheer and show our spirit (http://moe365.org/spirit.php) because we love FIRST and the impact that it has on our students, families, mentors and even our sponsors and we love to support all the other great FIRST teams that worked to make it to the events.
Now to the part about us having a great robot that " we must have a professional build" It is true we do have a professional build it, about 30 of them. Each one is a professional high school student who was trained in MOE university and has help and mentoring from our mentors. MOE is student built and designed, yes we have help from our mentors but its help and guidance not just doing it for the student only trust me each year students build things that don't work that I am positive that some of the mentors could fix for us but the only way to learn is to make mistakes and they do let us make mistakes and then get the great experence on how to fix them thats what FIRST is about, learning.
Thank you for saying that each year we have one of the best bots, I can think of lots of other great bots each year but thanks for the comment.
Also the decorations for the bot are always added on after the robot is built and is always something done just for fun. Most all of the decorations on the robot are just spray paint and cloth with stickers that anyone from any team can get made at a local print shop and buy from a local paint shop.
MOE has been around for almost 8 years now and it has taken almost 8 years to get where we are and it will take even more years to get where some of the other great teams are at right now, yes we have had some great luck by having awesome sponsors who really do value FIRST and its message and also some of the most dedicated parents and mentors that I have ever met. Each and every year we will have set backs and leaps forward just like every other team in FIRST.
If you have any more questions or comments about MOE 365 please refer to our website www.moe365.org or you can PM me, email me at kyle.a.rice@gmail.com or IM me at greenguy365 but please keep negative comments about any team or person off of CD forums so as not to make your team or your self look bad.
Team 104 is a great team, I think last year your team was a finalist at one of your regionals, I hope that in Philly this week that you can have a better idea of MOE and please stop by our pit and talk to our people to see who we are and what we really do, just don't forget your safety glasses.
Best of luck to your team and all other teams attending Philly
