View Full Version : 2007 Wisconsin Regional
I saw that lots of other regionals had threads, and I didn't want Wisconsin to feel left out.
So, who's excited? I know I am, as we will be back to defend our title and there will be even more teams there this year than last year (the FIRST website lists capacity as 44!). I've heard through the grapevine that quite a few new Minnesota teams might be coming...Second regional sign-ups are just beginning, and I hope lots of teams join in on the fun.
Hope to see you there!

Its so nice of you to think of Wisconsin. :)
1103 will be there again, and hopefully Chicago. The FIRST site show that only 29 teams have registered, so we should be getting some more out of state teams this year. :D

Of the seven (!!!) (last year there were 2...) MN teams so far 6 are going to Wisconsin!
Who is super excited?!
For sure Lauren.
1675 will be there again. But this year we going to do better then 24th.
Can't wait to see all the teams again.
I am very excited. There is a page for the regional set up at
http://www.wisconsinregional.org
The regional was great last year, we were glad to be a part of it, lets see if 111, 1625, and 1816.
Glad to hear that Minnesota is finally getting some more teams, also, there is some more Wisconsin teams, and no, that 44 capacity is no error, this regional will be better than ever.

I'll be there again.
81 will be there with bells on!
A little update on the progress of this regional:
There are now 49 teams signed up! That number astounds me after how many teams (34) were at WI last year. The craziest thing about the teams signed up: 22 out of the 49 teams are rookies. I'm pretty sure that's the greatest ratio of any regional this year. On top of that, 12 of the 22 rookies are from MN, and we only had two teams last year. This is shaping up to be a very interesting and exciting regional.
The Wisconsin Regional website has been updated with venue information, social information, as well as parking information. You will also find some resources for locating places to eat and lodge in Milwaukee.

team 1736 robot casserole from peoria, illinois will be there for the first time! so yeah im so excited!:D

Hey guys-
The Wisconsin Regional is still looking for some referees, quite a few actually. So if any at least semi-experienced FIRST folks who preferably aren't too involved with a team competing out there want to come up to Milwaukee during Week 2 and watch 51 teams (23 rookies!) battle it out while reffing for us, please please please sign up in VIMS or contact me or both.
Thanks,
Ricky

1306 will definitely be there this year! (Let's face it, we only have enough money to go to one regional, so why wouldn't we go to the one only 90 mi away! :p ) We're definitely hoping to improve upon the 26th (I think it was 26th) place we got last year, and we plan on defending, if not improving upon, our Regional Engineering Inspiration Award. :D
I just hope we won't have any medical emergencies this year! Last year our mascot passed out and had to be taken to the ER for overheating and dehydration. (He wore the badger suit for two hours without drinking anything or taking it off.) Later that day, another guy on our team jumped off a rock in the red panda exhibit at the zoo and sprained his foot. He ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the weekend. When all the mascots were dancing (http://www.wisconsinregional.org/photos/mascots.JPG), he put on our mascot suit and had someone push him around. (He was just out of that picture to the left.) At nationals, I wore the badger suit, and one of the other mascots who'd been to that regional asked what'd happened to me at regionals that I needed a wheelchair! :p

Team 930 is excited to be traveling back to the WI regional again this year. We're under new leadership and hope to be working closely and well with some fantastic alliance parnters this year, helping "raise their game" if you get my hint ;)
team 1652 from Pleasant Prairie, WI will be there and will rock the rack.
(excuse the pun)
Please include a loop of some sort so that we can "pick you up"

Don't be so hard on yourself as a team and your preformance last year. Remember that the key thing is that you learned something and have been inspired by science and technology. If that is true than the time that the volunteers and mentors have invested in you is worth it. If you improve your knowledge this year and are able to utilize that towards how well your robot preforms than that is an added bonus :).
BTW I heard rumors that the youngest MC and Announcer tandum ever will be at the Wisconsin regional this year ;) so get ready to pump it up!!
please post your robots picture on your website or on chiefdelphi.
i am working on compiling a list of all of the bots that are going to be at wisconsin and what they can do.
i of course will share the list once it is mostly finished.:D
Team 754 will be there with some competition!! We hope to do better than last year. :P This will be my second year at a FIRST regional, I am pretty psyched. I wish good luck to all FISRT teams!

In case anyone's interested, this is a picture of Team 1306's robot ClaWdia. After we finished it, we noticed the amazing resemblance it bears to a Lambda Class Shuttle (http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/lambdashuttle/index.html).
(Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, I'm still somewhat of a newbie here.)

YES! Finally somebody else noticed that some robots this year look exactly like the Lamdba Class Shuttle. I had thought the same thing myself.
I like your elevator design. It's elegant and an efficient use of space. Look forward to seeing it in action next week.

Here is something for all of the scouting people in Milwaukee. I wrote an Access Database that takes the match info, team information, and will generate a report with the teams in each match, their alliance, and all the info you entered.
The database I attached has the team info from Wisconsin, and the match info from today's practice matches.
You use the teams form to enter information about each team.
You use the Matches form to enter the time/data of each competition and match number.
You then you the AllianceInfo form to enter the alliance groupings. Team#, Alliance must be R or B. Each team has its own record. With the Team#, alliance, and match#. For each match you will have SIX entries in AllianceInfo.
Once you have the info entered you can run the matches report.
Good luck everybody,
Richard Wallace

Anyone got eyewitness data (or video?) of the Wisconsin regional eliminations?
Four rookie teams in the finals, and F1-2 score 61-60 for the blue alliance. Seems like it must have been pretty exciting.
I was there, but don't have any footage. I will say that the regional was won by Fond du Lac (2196 - Fondy Fire), Sussex (537 - Charger Robotics), Prior Lake HS (2169)
1714 - More Robotics of Milwaukee won the website award. I don't remember who won the other awards to tell you the truth. I just remember the website award because I work on my teams website.
269 won the chairman's award.
We lost in the quarter finals. The alliance we lost to lost the lost in the final round. They should have won, then we could say that we lost the the regional champions.

A couple teammates and myself went to watch and in finals it seemed to be a standard to get two robots up because everybody could do it. Over all it was a pretty offensive regional.
Yeah, the last match was insane. As soon as I saw the judge give the thumbs up I yelled "They won by 1 point!!!"
537 got their robot up at the VERY last second, too!

Team 2077 has the video of the final two matches for 2196 - Fondy Fire, 537 - charger robotics, and team 2169 to win it. Unbelievable score of 60 - 61. Must be seen to be believed. Here's the video:
Part 1 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-CSowGSsi-c)
Part 2 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ydGq45HHCuM)
...sorry for the poor quality, youtube down converts the video to .flv format

That last match was intense!
Especially since I am on the team (2175) that was the captain of the alliance that lost 61-60.
Coming in to this competition as a rookie team, we didn't expect to be good at all. We figured we would just enjoy being in the qualifying rounds and then watch the elimination rounds.
Little did we know that we would finish undefeated after the first day of qualifying rounds :) and that we would end up being a alliance captain for the elimination rounds.
I'd say we did pretty well considering our robot's arm was an after thought (we used it to score a tube once) and our lift wasn't able to lift other robots (not strong enough). So somehow we ended up being the highest seeded rookie team and a finalist with a "brick on wheels" as we like to call it.
Defense was our strategy, and it worked well because we didn't have omni wheels, so we couldn't be pushed around, but we could push others around.
Better to be lucky than good. ;)

Awesome competition all around!
I was coach/tactician for Team 537, and let me tell you those last two matches were crazy. Good job to all teams that participated, and we're happy to welcome newcomers like 2169 and 2196 into FIRST.

I just uploaded our scouting pictures of each team's robot that competed at the Milwaukee Regional into our web album. Here (http://picasaweb.google.com/FIRSTTeam171/Milwaukee2007Robots)
Note: If you would like the high quality picture of your team's robot just send me an e-mail
Our team was picked by Alliance 3. We could tell Edina (Alliance 2) wanted to pick us, and were going to. I'm sure if we went with Alliance 2, we would have won. Fo sho.

Those were some great matches. We were allied with 1816 and 2129 and went up against 537, 2194, and 2169 in the semifinals, but tragedy struck for us when the BaneBot transmissions on 1816 went out during the second match. They still were able to deploy their ramps in the third match, but it was a tremendous blow to be without their awesome defense.

yes it was intense, being a rookie team was tough. We lost a transmission right before the finals and also a battery box and our plexiglass broke during the finals all of wich we fixed it was insane. We Went way further than anyone on our team could have imagined our low tech ramps and two wheel drive paled in comparison to other bots but the first place finish was amazing. i would have liked to compete in the semis against a fully opperational team it would have been more fun. Fondy fire and charger robotics were amazing alliance partners and exactly the teams we wanted to have. all in all it was an amazing weekend.

Video from all of the elimination matches is on The Blue Alliance Match Archive System (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/matchlist.php?eventid=11) courtesy of SOAP. For the rest of the matches, results are available without video. You can search by team and check out other competitions as well.
Enjoy!
The final match was really fun to watch! It almost made up for the fact that we got yellow-carded and came in dead last :) Oh well, at least our driver had fun with that, though I yelled at him until I was hoarse for getting warned and doing it anyway. We gave some transmissions to someone, though, so maybe that evens out the robot that we apparently broke?
I'm not sure if anyone came by our pit, but if anyone wanted information on Arial Homes, just send me a message or an e-mail at radioactivhamster@gmail.com and I'll get you the information. We're hoping to get lots of FIRST teams involved - basically all you do is say that you'll build a home and you're supplied land and materials! It's a great off-season activity and it looks awesome on your team resume. We're hoping to build one million homes in 10 years so we'd love any help we could get!

That final match was awsome! I am a member of team 2169! I couldn't believe our teams won by one point. but the other teams still did a great job at this years comptition!!!:)
This was 2047's first regional, and we were really pumped after all was said and done!
The last match was spectacular, we were on the edge of our seats!
We were 16th in rank, but we would've climbed higher if one of our cables didn't unhook in our last qualifier.
This was definitely one of the craziest things I've ever been a part of, and I can't wait until the Chicago regional starts!
We were really embarrassed when three members came back to the hotel with the XEROX Creativity award from Friday. Our mentor was pushing us to bed early each night, so he sent everyone back to the hotel before the final match. The only people left was our pit crew, and I heard that it caused quite an upset in the stands when only three members walked up to the arena :D

Has anyone got video of Match #69? My team was awesome in that one (we scored 5 rings on the bottom by ourselves!) and our driver from that round really wants a copy so he can see it. Thanks! :D
