View Full Version : Loading Code Onto 2005 RC
I am having issues loaidng code onto my teams 2005 RC. I am using IFI Loader 1.0.10 (http://www.ifirobotics.com/docs/ifi-loader-v1-0-10.zip) When I put the robot into program mode the light is a solid orange and then when I go to load the code it says NO RC Found. I have tried from 2 computers and I know Im using the right port. Any ideas?

Is it actually 2005 code, and not 2006 code?
Are you using an USB dongle?

Yes. It is the 2005 Default code. And I have tried with a USB dongle(one that I used all year on the 06 RC) and an actual serial port.
Have you checked to make sure the serial cable is good? Sometimes they short and become useless.

Have you previously used this computer to upload code to a 2006 controller? I think you have to verify the controller or else it might try using the wrong protocol and thus failling.

I always have this problem when using the EDU/VEX/2005/2006 controllers each time you use a different controller verify the controller and it should work.

Chris,
I had a similar problem this last summer when setting up my home computer to program VEX controllers. I found that my laptop (which had been used for FRC last spring) had no issues. It was running v1.1.0. (http://www.ifirobotics.com/docs/ifi-loader-v1-1-0.zip)
I loaded 1.1.0 and had no problems.
I know that I have used 1.1.0 with 2004, 2005 and 2006 FRC controllers.
Give it a try...
Mike
IFI Loader v.1.1.0 recognizes my 2005 RC as a VEX controller. Has this happened to anyone else?

this is not surprising. the loader looks at the id code of the device to make sure that the correct hex file is used. the id for the vex and the 2005 controller is the same (8520). the 2006 controller uses a newer device (8722).
also, if you compile with the wrong linker file, the loader will refuse to load 8520 code into the 8722 device.

That makes sense about the controller type. Even when i verify the RC it still doesnt wanna work. I am useing the 8520 linker. Ill look at it again.
I hate to bring back this topic but I still havent figured it out. Im using IFI Loader v1.1.0 and the hex from the 2005 default code. I set it to COM4 which is my USB to Serial. I hit verify controller and it says Vex which makes sense. Then I download the code, it says Establishing connection.. and then "Unknown Device id ( 0 )". Does anyone know what that means? thanks.

Tell me what happens when you force IFI_Loader to use COM3 instead.

I you have an FRC 2005 controller connected it should say FRC not VEX I have just tested this and I could only get it give me an "Unknown Device id ( 0 )" if I had just programmed a VEX and forgot to run a Controller verification. If your controller is getting identified as a VEX I would check the your serial cables/converter, and try another computer if possible.
If I use my laptop with USB to Serial coverter it says it is VEX and then i get the error. When I use my desktop with its serial port it says FRCbut then I still get the error.
