I'm looking to do a (non-FIRST) robot. Does anyone know of a good supplier for cheaper-than-Victor speed controllers? Victors are reliable, robust, and very versatile, but they're out of my price range. I'm looking for something that controls speed using PWM, works at 12 volts, and a current rating around 20-30amps or more.
Does anyone have any experience with speed controllers besides Victors?

What is the application?

Are you looking for a speed controller that goes in one direction (sometimes called a spin controller) or are you looking for a fwd/rev type control?

They can be built VERY cheaply on a copper board, and are extremely simple if you are just doing a Spin Controller.

I haven't gotten a chance to try these, but I've had my eyes on them for awhile:

It's the HB-25 speed controller from Parallax. 6-16 vDC nominal, 25 amps continuous, 35 amps surge, built-in 25 amp slow-blow fuse.

Parallax itself is out of them, but http://www.lynxmotion.com stocks them.

Tower hobbies. For several years the KOP included speed controllers from RC cars. They come in all sizes and voltage/current ratings

forward w/brake, and forward / reverse with brake functions.
