So, I'm a bit curious- with the exception of this render (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41024&highlight=2007+game+hint), which actually appears to be from the [EDIT]2006 game.
As visible in this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php/?t=40145&highlight=dave+hints) from last year, there were plenty of fishies floating around by October. We're well into November, and no significant leads for us to debate!
Haha, it seems either Dave has been keeping his mouth full of Butter-fried Krispy Kremes, or the GDC's having trouble trumping last year's game...;) (Challenge, Challenge...) :D
FYI 2nd URL is http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php/?t=40145&highlight=dave+hints

That fish render is also a year old....
it IS almost a year old, isn't it? and yet, it's still buggin' me.
=P
I think that that clue from a year ago provides an ample amount of information. Along with that post by Dave on that picture and some examination of the patterns in past games, there's alot to think about. In fact, our team has come up with so many theories off of that one picture, we added a page to our website about it.
http://team291.org/Team291/2007_Game.htm
The whole website thing isn't 100% done yet so there may be a few typos.
Also, I would have liked to post this entire thing onto ChiefDelphi just to keep all theories in one place, but it was just too long and we wanted to have lots of pictures with it.

Ahh, Grasshopper. What is it that is "buggin' you"? Is it that while you are fishing for clues, you are lured in? You must learn to glide across the diversions and false starts like a strider crossing a still pond.

oh no more water. "fishing" "lured" "still pond"
my only guess is a small pond of water for a field which we must float on and go fishing.

You guys are missing the biggest clue of them all...
Corey and I have already figured out about 90% of the new game.
We're gonna redesign our controller to be used as a flotation device in the event of a water landing.
C'mon guys, it's never that obvious.
Let's see...Strider...Aragorn...Lord of the Rings...we're playing a ring toss game. Probably like at the midway of the county fair, with goldfish in a plastic bag as a prize.
One red herRING to rule them all, one red herRING to find them, one red herRING to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
You guys are missing the biggest clue of them all...
Corey and I have already figured out about 90% of the new game.
What is this 'Biggest Clue'? and how can you have 90% of the game figured out on one clue sent out so far? I always think that I have the game at least somewhat figured and then when it is announced I am always way off. And if I did get anything right, it was just something minor or truely obvious (like the three lights this year) detail. I'd be uber impressed if you really did have 90% of the game.

So are you two going to start giving out game hints as well?
If y'all are doing this much reading into what Dave isn't saying, why would he want to distract your thoughts by actually saying something? I mean, that would go against the whole reason that he gives us hints, right...
I like the ring toss conclusion, that's really good.
How bout this- Grasshopper, glide across, false starts, why not some kind of elaborate leapfrog game? That could get quite interesting. -JH

Can't be that - did you see the newspaper reports over the weekend that KK's sales have declined 19% in 2 years? Dave must not have been achieving his quotas. Hmm, two years - wouldn't that be just about when Spirit and Opportunity went from active development and deployment to maintenance mode? Do you think NASA successes are due to a diet of KK's?

the batons would float so a water game isnt completely ruled out.
also i wouldnt assume batons for 07 just because were all sort of expecting it now and the gdc likes to throw us with crazy ideas.

Does this explain the three axis of freedom double gripper arm I saw you CADing when I came by your dorm the other day? I thought you were planning on throwing in two poof balls at a time, but now it's all starting to make a lot more sense to me...

Every now and then something comes along that calls up memory of a prior post that is so appropos that it is really worth re-posting instead of just referencing the original thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22610). To whit:Soooo
by saying we cant trust what you post
is that misinformation
?!One would also have to wonder if, by admitting that we can't trust his post regarding misinformation, he knew we would all have to then question whether it was the original post that was false, or the post was correct but the original information behind the post was false.
Then, of course knowing that if I told him something even accidentally that it might end up on this board, I might tell him that everything I might say in the future would be false. Knowing that, he might want to give you a warning that anything I were to let slip, and he were to pass on, would be suspect. I could use that to ensure that everything I said would not be believed, and therefore not passed on. Or if it were passed on it would automatically be interpreted as misinformation, and everyone would assume the inverse was actually true. But knowing that, I could intentionally tell him misinformation, knowing that it would be interpreted as misinformation by him and inverted, and he would then unintentionally post the truth, which would be interpreted as misinformation and - knowing it was misinformation - the inverse (which was actually the inverted truth) would then be revealed to everyone. But since you now know that is possible, I would never do that. But I could just tell him misinformation, and he wold interpret it as such, and then post the truth, but everyone else would think that is was inverted truth and not believe it but believe the inverse. So then they would actually be believing the truth. But we already know that I would never leak out anything true, and since I know the potential for the above scenario, I would never let it happen, so everything that I would tell him would have to be real information only, which would then be interpreted as misinformation, inverted by him and posted as real information, misinterpreted as misinformation by you and inverted to be believed as real information, but since you know I would never reveal real information it would then be believed to be misinformation and inverted again into actual misinformation and incorrectly believed to be real information. Or not.
How do you know that he is really even one of my kids anyway?

I am just reminded of the following exchange from The Princess Bride (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_Bride_%28film%29):
MAN IN BLACK: All right: where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right and who is dead.
VIZZINI: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you. Are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet, or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I'm not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
MAN IN BLACK: You've made your decision then?
VIZZINI: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows. And Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
MAN IN BLACK: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
VIZZINI: Wait till I get going! Where was I?
MAN IN BLACK: Australia.
VIZZINI: Yes -- Australia, and you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
MAN IN BLACK: You're just stalling now.
VIZZINI: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong. So, you could have put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you. So I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard which means you must have studied. And in studying, you must have learned that man is mortal so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
MAN IN BLACK: You're trying to trick me into giving away something -- it won't work --
VIZZINI: It has worked -- you've given everything away -- I know where the poison is.
MAN IN BLACK: Then make your choice.
VIZZINI: I will. And I choose -- Wait! -- what in the world can that be?
MAN IN BLACK: What? Where? I don't see anything.
VIZZINI: Oh, well, I-I could have sworn I saw something. No matter.
MAN IN BLACK: What's so funny?
VIZZINI: I'll tell you in a minute. First, let's drink -- me from my glass, and you from yours.
MAN IN BLACK: You guessed wrong.
VIZZINI: You only think I guessed wrong - that's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned. You fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line."
Vizzini laughs and roars and cackles and whoops and is in all ways quite cheery until he falls over dead.

I'm getting this:
red herrings = tall tales
ah, I feel so much better now
I'm getting this:
red herrings = tall tales
ah, I feel so much better nowFrom the American Heritage Dictionary:
red herring
n.
1. A smoked herring having a reddish color.
2. Something that draws attention away from the central issue.
[From its use to distract hunting dogs from the trail.]
Could dave's post about everything being suspected to be a red herring be a clue...
In the Princess Bride all options turned out to be poison, Dave compared a red herring to poison...
The one who came out on top was impervious to the poison...
Meaning that ALL clues given will be red herrings and the only ones who will come out on top will be the ones who ignore all of Dave's posts becuase they will all be poison (red herrings)!
So we should all think about the opposite of whatever Dave says...
He has been dropping clues that the game will be underwater, but we must think the opposite...
THE GAME WILL BE ON DRY LAND AND HAVE NO FISH! Thank Heavens...

the quote by dlavery obviously was meant to say that no matter what he says theres no way to know if its true or not. maybe we should just wait with baited breath until kickoff.

'baited' breath??? That's a fish reference! You're in on next year's game too! Give us another hint!
In case my sarcasm is not apparent in my text, I actually think that there is no way of telling what next year's game could be just off of clues. But, I do find it extremely fun to discuss the clues on boards such as this and in school with friends in order to keep the excitement alive and have everyone fired up even before kickoff. I have kickoff marked on all my calendars already.

It will be opposite, but more than we first guessed; it will in fact be in the AIR with FLYING FISH for game pieces.
I'm still holding out for batons. Or lawn chairs. Something incredibly odd like that.

Wait, scallops? Scallops live under the sea, and sometimes can form pearls! I bet we have to retrieve poof balls from blue storage bins anchored to the bottom of a pool, then shoot them through tetrahedral goals that are hanging from a bar in the middle of the field!
 That's going to be hard!

Alright I may be the only loser and person in love with The Princess Bride but Dave's quote seemed a bit off so I checked the script and found a few flaws in Dave's rendition... put together they say : A now ha oh whats so funny I'll tell you in a minute.
