Website Competitions 2007:
This seems to be a yearly tradition for me to start this thread... :p
As the end of 2006 draws ever closer, many teams are now begining to fire up Photoshop and Notepad, to commence work on their new team websites. The 2006 Web Competitors Thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40358) had many wonderful team websites - let's make this one even better. Use this thread to list your 2007 Team Websites.
Discussion Rules:
The guidelines are to limit discussion as this is a showcase thread more than anything. If you want to discuss an individual site or some design element, or FIRST's rules for the award (which as of this post aren't out), start a new thread.
See these links for website competitor discussions from 2006 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40358), 2005 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31866), and 2004 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23571).
Post your website links!

Oops. This is actually team 1816's 2007 website: The Green Machine (http://www.edinarobotics.com).
All of these dates make me confused.
http://adambots.com or http://adamsrobotics.com we own both
This may seem off-topic and go against those rules, but why the need for 2 domains for the same organization?
http://www.blarglefish.com as always, new layout (again) this year, still working out minor bugs that have popped up with this new layout and adjusting small things but should be working perfectly after I get time to work on it during Thanksgiving break :).
This may seem off-topic and go against those rules, but why the need for 2 domains for the same organization?
Domains are relatively inexpensive and sometimes people mess up the words in a URL ;). Google actually owns a number of domains that point to Google.com like... Gogole.com, gooogle.com, etc

Team 612 (http://www.chantillyrobotics.com) also won the excellence award last year.
For 2007, web team is coming up with a whole new concept. Here a preview (http://www.chantillyrobotics.com/intro.html) ; it connects back to the 2006 website (testing mode), so no worries..... ;)

Team 772's website:
http://www.sabrerobotics.com
The site is currently being redesigned from what I understand, though I don't have direct contact with the students working on it. It hasn't really been updated since I was one of the two people in charge of it, so hopefully they come up with some good stuff!

I'll post this on behalf of our web team, we have finished re-designing our website, and are currently coding it all up. The designers did an amazing job with it and hopefully it will function as good as it looks. Here is the design (http://robotics.crescentschool.org/final.jpg), and here (http://robotics.crescentschool.org/) is our temporary page with some flash video i have been playing with. I'll bump it again when we have it finished.
Just as a little plug for our new FIRST Web Network (http://fwn.thegreenteam885.org), don't forget to add your site so that people can easily see who is competing in the web site category without having to read through the whole thread. (Not trying to replace this thread, just trying to make looking for a team's site easier.)

I think our website looked okay. www.mustangrobotics.ca. Does anybody have any advice on improving this website to be better?
Team 2052.
Spent only a little over 2 hours designing, slicing, and coding this one. Still under construction, have to add color and content.

Same as always for MARS 1523, http://www.marsbot.org
We do rolling updates throughout the year, using it as a continuous team resource so its not exactly like we submit a completely separate site. Quite a few new things since the 06 comp, such as a new theme and web 2.0 features.

We're (well, I am) still working on FIRST-izing our website for this year; BEST last year left it a bit BEST-specific. ;) Just need to update it to reflect FIRST's standards...

There is some good looking competition out there this year. I just had a question. Is FIRST going to penalize for improper use (the background) of their logo?
As far as our website goes, we are still in mid-redesign. Well, Good Luck all.

Now their due today. :) Also I have a question. I didn't want to open an entire new thread for it:
Under the judging cretia on page 14 it lists "Do links open new, separate browser windows?"
Does this only apply to external content? I find it extremely annoying for webpages to open other links in new windows. Thanks!

Team 1646 , Precision Guessworks website for 2007:
http://www.precisionguessworks.org/
Is this just for the regional you guys (Team 47) are in? If so, sorry. But anyway, Team 1713 (for which I am the webmaster) has submitted www.1000islandsschools.org/FIRST/FIRST.htm for the Finger Lakes Regional Website Competition. This is our first year competing for the award, and I have to say my confidence level is going up and down like crazy. (Team 340, for example, has a fantastic website.)
While I'm here, what's the difference between the Website Award and the Website Awards for excellence? Is the latter like an "Honorable Mention" thing?

I revamped my team's website this year: bobcatrobotics.org (http://bobcatrobotics.org/)
I used Moo.fx for the dropdown stuff. I used magpie rss to get those videos that we have from google video. All of it was coded Notepad++ and all the graphics were made in Photoshop.

Our web guy from last year left, and I really didn't like the way our site was anyway. I'm still working on our current site, but if you'd like to see how it's going: http://www.bedfordrobotics.org Very basic site using Joomla! CMS and phpBB for the forums. I've yet to integrate logins from both together, still waiting on a team name/logo.

Are there any other teams out there using a wiki platform?
synth3tk
13-11-2007, 20:53
Highlife, I like what you guys did with your site. I was just checking it out today after reading this thread, and I must admit that after viewing a boatload of other teams who used MediaWiki or some alternative (and yes, lots of teams also use Wiki) I thought that this was just for the most basic of setups. Kudos, keep it up!
We use Joomla! Content Management System [http://www.joomla.org/] and I'm in the process of setting up a Wordpress for blogging, then somehow integrating those with phpBB from MySql to make one big happy site. I like keeping busy, as you can see!

Check out this guy's tutorial, you could almost just use Wordpress for the whole website (it's a nice little mod for a CMS). Wordpress can do just about anything. It's also very easy to theme. Don't think Wordpress is just for bloggging, that's oh so wrong. Personally, I would recommend not having Joomla!, Wordpress and phpBB all in one.
Click Me for WP Hacks! (http://www.webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/wordpress-theme-hacks/) (Amazing Design)
Concerning phpBB, I would use phpBB3 if you're not. Their's many advantages like no spam and better .. everything pretty much.

As for Team 1713, the new site is up and running! Compared to last year's, its a lot... what's the word?... better. That's all I have to say. Here it is: http://www.1000islandsschools.org/FIRST/First.htm

You seem pained to admit to that. Don't worry about it. WordPress is professionalistic, powerful, and easy to use and implement. Give it a shot. You may just like what you see.

We're working out the bugs and obnoxiously large picture sizes but here is our site, renovated from last year's horror show.

Notice the new midnight design, Alot lighter on the bright orange :P
Earlier we had problems because the extensions were capitalized from the camera when we were stuck calling it in lowercase :yikes: The flash menu is a little buggy but I am fixing it tomorrow hopefully :P
