I have set up an email list server to redistribute the FIRST email blasts. The list is free for all to use!

To subscribe, simply send an email to first_relay@pearsoncomputing.net and put the phrase SUBSCRIBE_FRC_RELAY in the subject; you do not need to include a message body. If subscription is successful, you will get an email welcoming you to the list.

Enjoy, and if there are any problems with the system feel free to contact me!

Eldarion

No, I will not use the mailing list for anything other than the FIRST email blasts, and I will not distribute the email addresses on the list to anyone.

This is an excellent idea, last year when FIRST sent out easyC
information we discovered that list of e-mails FIRST had on record were not
necessarily going to the right people. Some teams had the purchasing agent
at the school or sponsoring company getting all the e-mail blasts.

Good idea. Will it be possible for people to unsubscribe in the future, should they no longer want to receive these email blasts?

Simply send an email with the keyword REMOVE_FRC_RELAY to first_relay@pearsoncomputing.net

I like this idea, because it seems like every few months I drop out of the official FIRST list for some odd reason.

Thanks for offering this to us who wouldn't normally be getting these emails.

Personally, I think it's a great idea- I'm not currently on a team, but I hate being so far out of the loops- this is how I'm going to keep track of what's going on this year!
And also, sometimes even when you ARE on a team, the person assigned to forwarding out the blasts might not do so because a) they're too busy to check their email or b) they don't think it affects the group... I've missed out on more then one big even because of that!

This is the main reason that I am offering this service; the animation team missed out on the deadline extension Email and we ended up sending in our animation 2 weeks early! :yikes:

If the blasts do not seem to be coming in for some reason, please write me at eldarion@pearsoncomputing.net. I will then check to make sure that my listserver is still on FIRST's mailing list.

Also, to everyone who gave me good rep, thanks! Think of it as a 'payment' for my free service! :) :p

i think its a good idea, another option, is that FIRST is keeping an archive on the usfirst.org webpage....

Would it be possible to make this thread sticky in the FIRST Email Blasts forum? That way, those who would like to sign up to receive the blasts won't have to hunt through pages and pages of ancient threads to find this one. :)

Thanks!

Is there any way to prevent others from sending messages out besides yourself? A mentor just sent out one, and I (thinking it was someone from my own team) replied, but Verizon sent the email to the whole list....doh!

I am trying to figure out a way to do so, but I am still somewhat unfamiliar with the listserver software I am using! :o

Ok, thanks. :-D It's weird that Verizons NetMail automatically replied to the list and not the sender...oh well...live and learn.

this is awsome thank you. I have been wanting on FIRST's mailing list for a long time, but I am not on a team, I am only a volunteer and of course the email blasts for the most part only go to teams. Thanks for this awsome service.

When people reply to these messages, they get sent to other people on the list. I got 5 messages and they were all replys fromt he e-mail. Is there a way to not do that? and i suggest that everyone not reply to those e-mails.

As seen in my post (a few back) I already brought up the issue and it is being worked on.

To those who are wondering why they are not getting blasts anymore (as of 02/07/07):

For some reason FIRST has removed me from their list
I have sent a couple of Emails to the general contact address, but have not yet gotten any response. Maybe someone from FIRST will look out here and see this post (and fix the problem).

My Email server had gone on the fritz for a while (specifically my secondary DNS server had failed), so I wonder if FIRST got a hard bounce or two?

Once again, I apologize for any incovenience that this may cause.

All right, it looks like everything is back up and happily humming again. If you are not receiving blasts, please let me know.

I received a bunch of old blasts in my Inbox tonight - did the system "hiccup" or something?

I emailed FIRST and hopefully they will reply. I had the exact same thing happen to me.

That was me. We had a power outage yesterday, the UPS systems on the servers overloaded and failed. Long story short, the Email server went down and something odd happened that forced a lot of old garbage through, broadcasting it to everyone in the list! I had about 12 hours of work to do on the servers in order to get them running again; it was not fun.

The UPS systems have been upgraded so that this sort of thing shouldn't happen in the future.

Sorry for the problems, and if you notice anything else odd about the Emails, please let me know! I don't know exactly how much damage was done to the Email setup.

Tim

Yes, and I'm also receiving a bunch of e-mails that are undeliverable from "postmaster at pearsoncomputing.net" as though I were sending them out. Sounds like the same earlier issues mentioned in this thread are re-surfacing again.

I sincerely apologize for the problems. Due to the power outage some critical settings were wiped, and I do not have the time to set the Email blast server up right now. Therefore, I have simply shut it down so that you will not have to endure more spam.

If I decide to reactivate the list at a later date, I will post a message here.
