Its looks nice. However I think the arm might be heavy. Do you have an estimate weight of both the arm and the whole robot?

I'm willing to bet it can be slimmed down as well, but I've got to ask the other pressing questions:

1) How would you have it expand or retract?
2) Is the arm designed to tilt, a la 233 or 1251 in 2005?

The arm tilts, and will extend via cable pulled by a winch like mechanism at the base. As far as the mechanism to do both of these, I haven't added it in as of yet.

Weight on the arm is about 10 pounds.

Do you really need box tubing for the whole arm?

In 2005 we had a staged lift almost exactly like that, and it was made of flat stock and angle stock welded together. You could probably save a bit of weight if you do the same.

Weight on the arm is about 10 pounds.

I am having hard time believing that it is only 10 pounds...

1) How long are the pieces?
2) What is the wall thickness (1/16? 1/8?) on the box tubing?
3) Are those L brackets quarter inch thick?
4) How many of those L brackets you got in that design if they are quarter inch thick?

... the reason I am asking these questions is to see if you miscalculated while you were figuring out the weight for the mechanism.

I would jump up and down if I had 100 pounds to work with for a chassis and electronics (assuming your mechanism would be between 10-20 pounds).

I really hope the game pieces are intertubes too:)

Any ideas on how you will pick them up? There isn’t a lot of room there for a claw/grabber/(thing).

As far as material choice, this is my first time designing a game object manipulator. Up until now, I've been the drive train guy.

The extrusion for the arm is 1x1 with 1/6th inch wall, at 24 inches long, and the sliders/brackety things are made of delrin, and are 1/4inch thick. I'm probably going to make the thing smaller, but with the grabber I play to design onto the end... I might need to make it thicker. This grabber should be able to passively "slurp" up about 4-5 inner tubes at a time, and then spit them out onto a post. Now all of this is speculative of what I think the game will be.
